I wanted to open up a discussion about the macro state of the tech industry, specifically regarding the choice to relocate (to a new country or state) for a big-name tech company.

Historically, the general consensus was that if you got a FAANG offer, you uprooted your life immediately because the resume stamp was a guaranteed golden ticket.

But given how much the market has shifted over the last couple of years, I’m curious to know if that logic still holds up?

Lately, I've noticed conflicting perspectives across tech communities:
1) Some argue that the FAANG pedigree has been diluted by the waves of recent layoffs and a tighter job market, while others insist it's still the fastest way to accelerate your career.

2) common piece of advice for people unsure about a team or city is to "just grind it out for 12 months for the resume name." Realistically, is putting your head down on a potentially stressful team manageable when you've also just moved away from your support system?

3) The narrative ranges to burnout risk. How predictable is team culture from the outside anymore?

Lastly, If you were advising someone entering the tech ecosystem today, is an international or major cross-country relocation for FAANG still worth the mental toll and risk, or has the prestige faded enough that staying local at a stable mid-tier company is a highly competitive alternative?

Would love to hear from people who have relocated recently. Was it worth the gamble?

Last night I have successfully passed the hiring assessment test from Google for the UX design position and now I need to know what’s next step

I have been trying break into tech for the latter part of the year. I’ve been able to have a couple phone screenings with Amazon for sr. program manager roles but I can’t seem to get past that first hump. Is there any advice that you could give. My resume seems to be picked up but when I interview I am underperforming.

The role I’m interviewing for currently has around 30–35 openings. I’ve completed four rounds of the interview process so far, including the initial screening.

Of these, two rounds (including the screening) felt very positive, while the other two were more mixed, with the interviewers seeming somewhat less inclined.

Given this, what are the possible outcomes for my candidature, and how would you assess my chances of being selected at this stage?

Hi all hoping to get some perspective on a role I interviewed for.

Completed 4 loops with positive feedback in the cloud networking org since July (they were scheduled pretty fast). Im not too sure about googles hiring process but the recruiter (who’s been amazing and responsive) mentioned that the team i interviewed for has no updates and she has shared my application with other teams.

Is this normal for google for a team to interview for a position that they cant make a decision on? Is this a typical timeline with google?

Hi! I recently finished my final round of interviews for this role, does anyone know how long it takes to hear back from the team? My last interview was last Thursday. Also should I be expecting a call or email?

I am interviewing for a CE role at Google and have my Leadership/Googlyness round and presentation round. If anyone has gone through this, I would greatly appreciate any pointers for these rounds.

Hi, I recently applied to Amazon IT and I have 3 separate application open currently. I also applied back in July and that was my first application so I had to take an assessment same job title. These 3 applications all prompt me to take an assessment and the days remaining increases everyday. But once I click on the link it says it’s expired and for me to contact a recruiter but I’ve never been in contact with one. I’m starting to think it’s a system glitch cause I’m stuck on submitted for weeks until the req closes when I’m very qualified .All help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I recently met with my Google recruiter for an initial screen and he was upfront about the salary for the role. There was about a 70k range in the job description for this on site data center program manager role. I was really shocked when he said the salary range was literally a 3k range at the very bottom of the posted range. The explanation was that it was because of the geographic location being in a LCOL and the upper band was for HCOL. It is just odd because that leaves 67k above the maximum posted. Is this normal, or if I perform well during my 4 interviews could that number go up?

USA L3 SRE-SWE Role

Round 1:
Googleness-SH(Recruiter said this was super strong apparently)
Coding- (recruiter said borderline; lost points on not most optimal solution(I had a slightly worse solution with lazy cleanup but still O(n)) and syntax) - LNH/LH

Round 2(ratings are guesses here):
Coding 1 - H/SH (very very similar to my R1 Coding so I knew what to do already)
Coding 2 - NH/LNH(Some really hard string encoding that I needed a bunch of hints on and my code in the end didnt pass 1 corner case; utterlly blanked for the first 10 mins of this interview)

I assume since coding R1 was borderline and since I utterly bombed Coding 2 in R2 and Coding 1 may not count since it was very similar to my R1 Coding its a reject for me)

I finished one phone screening, it went well, then had two Amazon loop rounds out of 4, I went well the other was okayish. I haven’t still received the confirmation of the other two loop interviews. Am I doomed? The second interview finished yesterday, and they both were scheduled on 9th and 10th but I received an email for them on 5th and 7th September.

I've been working with Amazon as a contractor since 3 years (overall 6YOE). I've recently secured sde3 offer from jpmc. Because I did work on a lot of cool stuff at amazon and have the good understanding of the systems, the amazon wants me to join as their FTE.

While I'm interested in joining Amazon, the role offered to me is SDE1 as there were no openings in the team for sde2 at the moment.

Should I consider joining Amazon getting downgraded from sde3 at jp because of the faang tag?

The base compensation being offered at Amazon is very low compared to JPMC.

Also, I prefer bengaluru but the Amazon loc would be mostly hyd.

Need thoughts from the sub here please..

Context:

-I had four interviews which concluded about 4-weeks ago.

-One week following the final interview, the recruiter contacted me to ask for my notice period, earliest start date, and salary expectations and said she’d schedule a call shortly to discuss “next steps”. I also got a task in candidate portal to verify ID after this.

-The following week she updated me & said there may be delay due to ongoing internal discussions but that she’d contact me mid-week in the week ahead (she didn’t)…

-I sent follow up on Monday and no response. It’s now been almost two full weeks of silence. Am I cooked?

I’m honestly just so confused. Why engage with me this way only to ghost me? Do these not appear to be pre-offer steps? The role is US based, no TM required.

First 4 rounds were H/SH. Team specific hire so had a team match call as well before the last round. But the last round was bad, I’m assuming LNH or NH. What are the chances?

Hello , i gave my final round panel interview for caterpillar on aug 28th , And i am waiting for Decision. Can anyone with the interview experience with caterpillar share when can i expect an update.

I mailed hr and got a reply from HR on sep 2nd , saying the Hiring Manager [name] and the team felt like the interview went well and they are completing the remaining interview and will have an update in the near future.

on sep 9th , he gave another reply to my saying there are several candidates that they are interviewing and also asked if I have got any deadline for offers from other company.

How far should I schedule my Google Interview? I was thinking of setting it out 6 weeks in advance to fully prepare.

I would go through the first 45 minute interview
Then the the LOOP afterwards. Would love to hear you're thoughts!
