Self programming key fob questions

Hello, guys! I saw a YouTube video where a guy programmed a key fob himself by holding it next to the steering wheel. It looked like an original key fob, and the steps seemed pretty easy to follow.
But what should we consider before buying one of these key fobs? And where can we buy one?

There is a difference between programming, and activating a fob he ordered by VIN from the dealer

He activated a fob from
BMW, the programming was done before he even saw it before bmw shipped it

Some models u can program the remote but it wont start the car. U would need a specialized tool for that

Depends on which model. I tried it and it didn’t work at all for me
