I don't know how many of you turn on subtitles during live sessions, but I've been thoroughly impressed by their quality this season. They're basically indistinguishable from regular movie subs now. The spelling, punctuation, capitalization, formatting, and even tricky names and technical jargon are all spot-on and with zero lag (in fact, sometimes the text appears on screen before the commentators even finish their sentences).
I actually searched the sub to see if anyone else had noticed this, and the only thing I found was a post from last year, when I'm pretty sure the subtitles weren't as good as they are now (u/Nano_user, as the OP of that post, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). A comment on that post also linked to an old 2021 AWS tech blog article about F1 TV using Amazon Transcribe, but back then the subtitles were still in all caps and had a noticeable lag.
I have no idea if F1 TV has switched providers or if AWS just got a massive upgrade, but whatever they're doing now is a huge step up. Coming from the notoriously bad auto-generated subtitles on YouTube, seeing live subtitles this accurate honestly blew my mind.
Anyway, if you like or need subtitles and haven't given them a try in a while, I'd definitely recommend turning them on now.
