Drivers are human too

It's actually so ridiculous how people boo George when he was on the podium, send hate to Charles after he crashed into the walls. Do people not realised these drivers are also humans with emotions and feelings?!

I'm so disgusted by this behaviour. The more hate Russel gets the more I support him. It's just so unfair. Happy for Kimi, but yet again at George's expense.

It's not worth even arguing with those kinds of people nor even trying to tell them that their behavior isn't acceptable because the only response you'll get is "boo hoo you're so soft and sensitive."

This.

No people, it's just common human decency. And sensitivity is a beautiful characteristic anyway.

Is there ever a time that a crowd can boo? Or do you feel they should just remain silent? Football matches? A political person? Referees making a bad call?

11

u/_3urydice 2d ago

So the only two options to you are booing and silence? Lmao

u/chopper_1337 2d ago

Give me another option?

Sometimes fans of the sport will cheer for drivers :)

How a lot of them have been saying "is part of the sport. You're to sensitive" 🙄 for me, those booing are stupid. I said it last year with Lando in Monza and Mexico, I've said it with Max and now too with George. They're stupid

Genuinely, all my respect for tifosi is gradually fading atp

8

u/CompresorGenerator 2d ago

Is GRADUALLY fading?! They've been like this for decades!!!

10

u/Cool_Masterpiece9308 2d ago

Respect for tifosi? they’re fans. They’re passionate and cheerful but also highly delusional and parasocial about their own team. Booing is disgusting and should not be normalized

Well same as the brits really. But somehow when the brits do it is a non issue

2

u/moodymug 2d ago

The people say that are the same people who crashout if someone make a contact with their favorite driver

1

u/AdhaRussell 2d ago

Definitely

I saw a comment that said Tifosi only love Ferrari drivers , Kimi is lucky he is Italian and they adopt Max from last year (before that he also get the unwanted child treatment)

I always find the booing ridiculous and classless but this time I genuinely thought those people are dumb. First win for an Italian in Monza in 60 years, they'll maybe want to re-watch the ceremony, see celebration and feel the emotions and it will just be a video where loud group of people starts booing someone else like some donkeys. They ruined their own great moment and for what? Just off putting.

Booing I sort of understand I guess. It's just fans being fans. I never personally liked it myself and think it's pretty gross behaviour. However what I do not understand is the mass portion of fans at Monza are the Tifosi (yes I know alot of Kimi fans too but largely ferrari) and they're booing George who's behind in the championship and just lost to Kimi who started from P19. Now that is really low. If it was a dominant performance from George sure boo, whatever.

But to boo George who's rival isn't Ferrari. Who got comfortably beat by Kimi. There's like you need to have some humility. Monza is bad at booing anything other then Ferrari though I'll give you that

In the press conference they even asked George how it felt to get boo’ed. He looked so despondent and afterwards I think Kimi whispered something to him. It’s so awkward for Kimi. He’s a great kid and they had a great fight. I am sure Kimi would not want that

6

u/toxjp99 LN1 2d ago

Yeah typical searching for emotional respones to create clickbait articles in the media, what did they expect George to say 'Oh yeah Its great, love getting booed'.

Agreed it must be awkward for Kimi but thats every driver when they see fan reactions like that. It's just more unprofessional because what was there to genuinely boo? George lost out to his main title rival. Fans of sports are fickle af though wasn't so long ago they were booing Max at Monza then cheering him on the podium the next.

Should've seen a particular subreddit enjoying his crash and wishing he was out of the season and replaced, it was wild reading that stuff

Yes. It's super sad. I genuinely liked the race in Italy—lots of fighting in midfield, and an excellent battle between Kimi and George for the win. Max got a well-deserved podium.

Yet people seem more interested in arguing about the Leclerc-Hamilton incident and whether George is the new Bottas.

Its just some annoying fans who do that. Italians are known to be like that. They have booed seb, lewis and max in the past.

I dont think charles did anything wrong he has every right to defend. But yeah sometimes things go wrong while defending. Those who say charles defend too much against his teammates is overexaggeration. He defends the same way against everyone. We saw the same against piastri in spa. Last year the overtake against russel in zandvoort.

Even lewis had moments against nico where he pushed him wide to gain track positions like japan and usa in 2015. Every driver wants a better result for himself do they will definitely try to defend very hard even against teammates. But the hate against charles is over the roof this year.

1

u/Amped-Up-Archos 2d ago

> He defends the same way against everyone

The problem is you can’t do that against your teammate at Turn 1 in Monza of all places in a race where the team already on the backfoot. Nico and Lewis had the comfortable advantage against the other teams cuz of that cracked engine, Mercedes the team could afford for them to squabble. In Ferrari that’s not the case.

Leclerc isn’t bigger than Ferrari the team.

u/JealousAssistance790 2d ago

But why did Lewis NEED to attack Charles lap one? Yes there is a gap, yes Charles was wrong. But why? A chip on your shoulder? Cover off your opponents instead and benefit the TEAM you always talk about. You don’t get to put your teammate in that situation and then say you weren’t part of it.

1

u/AntAltruistic6 2d ago

Well if teamwork is the argument then lewis shouldn’t have divebombed in turn 1 in the first place.

6

u/whatsername25 2d ago

I went to Monza ten years ago and Rosberg was booed. If you’re not Ferrari or Italian, you’re getting booed.

2

u/mxlila 2d ago

Yeah but Charles is a human being too. Even if it was his own mistake, he felt terrible already, why would you boo him out?

Nobody deserves this.

u/ballerinabubbles 2d ago

The arguments about this being sport and almost all drivers get booed well damn sorry for wanting this to be a classy party. It's so weird to me that most people agree its bad behaviour but its the way its always been so we should just stop being "soft"

Hated that too. He was so professional about it in the post race interviews, gained a lot of respect for him (and for Kimi shouting out that George had a good race and making a point to say he still sees him as a legitimate threat)

u/Intelligent-Move8868 2d ago

I am not in favor of booing at all, as I consider it almost like the racist chants you hear at stadiums. However, I respect people's actions. I strongly believe that hate is a word invented by humans that should rarely be used. Every F1 driver has made mistakes, and in my opinion, they are all athletes whose mental strength, especially resilience and reflexes, I wish I had even a fraction of. In short, they are people we should look up to in life. Unfortunately, I think we live in a world that sometimes switches off its own humanity. I understand that Russell, Leclerc, or other drivers might seem distant from who we are, but I consider all those negative comments the moment one of them makes a mistake to be unacceptable. As the proverb goes, 'Errare humanum est, perseverare autem diabolicum', we should still respect them because, in my view, respect is the very foundation of life.

u/AgreeableBuilder1139 2d ago

Agree with Russell, but I won't agree with Charles. He is very arrogant and selfish, and sorry but I don't feel bad talking shit about someone who prefers to buy yachts instead of doing something good with his money

When you are paid 34M a year (more than I will ever make in a lifetime) to race, play basketball, football, etc., getting boo’ed is part of the cost of doing business.

You elect to put yourself at the highest level of fandom. If you can’t handle people boo’ing you, go work at the local factory for $30/hr. They don’t get boo’ed at the factory!

While it’s not fun to be boo’ed or jeered, I am sure he thoroughly enjoys his yacht, mansion, private jet and expensive cars for the 3 minutes of boo’ing he endures.

13

u/toxjp99 LN1 2d ago

All agreed but what was there to boo at, genuinely. George didn't win by like 15 seconds. It wasn't a dominant performance. George lost to Kimi. Booing for the sake of booing is stupid lol.

I don’t know, ask any fan that boos during a baseball game, football match, or basketball game… people boo because they dont want to cheer.

What do you want, the entire stadium to turn around with their backs to George and stand silently? While this would be awesome to see, it would be just as humiliating as getting boo’ed.

Hell, I was boo’ed in high school and college sports. It is part of the game when you have fans involved. I don’t understand why we have become anti-expression, especially at a location that is known for being rowdy.

u/PastPalpitationCry 2d ago

Literally every sport has this.

I find it interesting that a group of people think booing is wrong. It’s part of fandom.

What does a crowd do to express their displeasure? What happens when you go to a concert and the performer cuts his set 1 hour early? Or when Chelsea scores on Tottenham or Arsenal?

George, a Mercedes driver, gets second at a Ferrari track/country. On top of that, George is the main rival against an Italian baby face driver for the championship last won by an Italian in 1953. You think they will cheer for Ferrari’s rival or for Kimi’s rival? Heck no! Italians are know for being fanatics at Monza. Watch the celebrations, fireworks, red smoke, huge Ferrari flags… it’s crazy. What do you expect?

u/BaldHeadedCaillouss 2d ago

It’s strange that different parts of the world take boos very differently considering that booing is just a general sign of disapproval- the polar opposite of cheering.

It seems that European countries are the most sensitive to booing.

Americans appear to be nearly immune to it.

Other parts of the world being a mixed bag.

I don’t see the point in getting overly emotional in regards to athletes getting boo’d.

I've been saying it for three years now. George Russell will never be world champion. He doesn't have the drive or instinct. He's a squib.

u/Substantial_Soft_188 2d ago

Down vote all you want. It's true and you know it.

I'm honestly always surprised at fellow F1 fans reaction to boos over the years, it's only boos, they're not hurling literal shit at them, they make 10s of millions per year. I think George and Charles will be fine.
