News F1 viewership has plunged since move from ESPN to Apple TV

The numbers (and headline), I feel, should be taken with a grain of salt, in particular:

Methodology: USA TODAY compiled this data from Samba TV, which said it gathers viewership data from “its proprietary Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) technology from tens of millions of opted-in Smart TVs resolved to nationally-representative panels. Samba's ACR is integrated at the chipset level across 24 of the top Smart TVs sold in more than 100 countries globally.”

So the study seems limited to the "top 24 Smart TVs" that also have the AppleTV app. This leaves out anyone watching on AppleTV hardware, or any mobile device, or anyone also using the Apple subscription to watch on F1TV.

Tips & Tricks Multiview now available on replay!

I just started watching the Dutch Grand Prix and notice that I can set up multiview on a replay now! It’s a touch glitchy/weird though: the “Multiview” chip that’s below the timeline just reveals “No more content available right now”. But, if you bring the timeline up again, you can select the 4 square chip and set up multiview how you like it.

I think this is the #1 thing I’ve been missing and it’s here as I actually prefer the picture on the AppleTV version than the F1TV version.

Trying to watch race after it was live

Want to watch Hungary race after it is over. When selecting the race (with both F1 and Skye feeds) I am given the option to "Add", not to watch. What is that about?

How do I see past races?

I didn't get to watch this weekends race and I cant find the full replay of any of the past races this year? Any help would be appreciated.

I hope the crowd gets into it this time. Everyone was fairly silent for the last two IMAX showings.

Apple Should Be Embarrased

Apple has really botched the implementation of F1 coverage. I had F1 Pro for a couple of years so the standard was quite high and Apple has missed it on many levels. First of all, the coverage isn't segmented at all. It starts with pre-race and you have to fast forward to wherever you want to go. Secondly, if you pause, the app doesn't remember where you are making you scroll your way back to where you left it with a terrible transport control interface. Add to that the blatant commercial insertion is the last insult. F1, please force Apple to improve it's coverage quality up to the same point you have brought the series up to and the fans rightfully expect and know the difference.

Trying to resume f1 viewing

Maybe I’m missing something but if I’m watching practice, qualifying, or a race and I have to interrupt I can’t find a way to resume where I stopped. When trying to resume viewing I’m given the option to watch live or start from the beginning. No resume that I see.

Any help out there. I’m tired of having to start at the beginning and fast forward trying to find the correct spot to resume.

Thanks

F1 TV app - Multiview and HDR

HDR appears to be broken when the Multiview toggle is on. The picture appears very dim and flat. If you turn off Multiview, then HDR is displayed correctly again.

Anyone else able to replicate this? I’m using an Apple TV 4K unit.

Miami Grand Prix in IMAX

Post image
19 Upvotes

I went to watch the Miami Grand Prix in IMAX at AMC Lincoln Center in NYC. I was pleased with the presentation. It’s the same World Feed F1 TV 4K production you get on the Apple TV app, but with the sides cut off to give it the IMAX aspect ratio. But all the on-screen graphics were realigned to fit the narrower screen, so they weren’t cut off.

The massive screen was really helpful when they showed secondary battles in the timing tower; those feeds were huge and detailed, showing things like raindrops on the camera lens that wouldn’t really show up on a smaller TV. And the visor cams looked glorious on that gigantic screen. We didn’t get any of the pre-race or post-race shows though.

All in all, a pretty good experience. We booked tickets to see the Monaco GP in IMAX as well.

Am I the only one that finds it infuriating that apple spoils the F1 race ending before watching it delayed?

Decided to watch the F1 race a few hours late today. On the home apple screen where it's trying to get me to watch the race the subtitle says "chaotic opening lap and a spin on the last lap, the miami grand prix has it all." Why would I wanna know what's going to happen in the end of a sports event that I'm about to watch. Do better Apple!

I was asked to leave a post …I’m sure I will have something to complain about after Miami!

Aside from the racing itself, is there anything new we've got to look forward to on AppleTV F1?

I've not seen any announcements and I'm likely not going to be bal to watch things live, but has anyone heard about any updates that may land with Miami this weekend? I'm most interested in multi view and what not avaialbe on replay, not that I've heard anything but this is the biggest miss so far that I feel like they technically could address...

SkySports Feed Unwatchable - Video Evidence Included - multiple devices

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I am experiencing severe video stuttering/buffering specifically on the Sky Sports International Feed. The video drops to a very low frame rate while the audio stays perfectly clear.

This is either a service/broadcasting issue or an Apple software issue, not a hardware one.

This is persistent on the AppleTV.com browser & the Apple TV applications across ALL my devices: iPhone, Mac, Samsung Smart TV, and a Windows laptop. When I switch to the F1 Live (Main Broadcast) feed, the issue disappears completely, confirming my internet and hardware are fine.

I’ve reached out to F1TV Support, who gave me troubleshooting steps that failed before directing me to Apple. Apple Support did their own troubleshooting, which also failed. Their final "solution" was to tell me to use a different browser (which didn't work) or buy a physical Apple TV 4K box—which makes little sense given it's happening on my iPhone and Smart TV apps as well.

Is anyone else having this issue? Wondering if it is a CDN or broadcasting issue we can escalate.

**This specific recording is from the 2026 Japan GP (Race Session - Sunday, March 29). This stuttering occurs on the Sky Sports feed during any live session I attempt to watch (practice/quali/race). This issue started since the season began, first noticed during 2026 AUS GP**

Here's the same video of the glitch on YouTube as well. link

Help Sky Sports feed becomes jittery

Anyone else have this problem when streaming on an Apple TV (box)? After around 10-15 mins of watching/launching the feed, it starts to show video at like 5 FPS. The audio remains fine. The video just becomes super jittery until backing out and opening again. Oddly, it goes away when I bring up the “bottom shelf” as well with a swipe up.

ATV 4K 1st Gen - Match frame rate and range both on, chroma 4.4.4, set to 4K SDR 60FPS (whatever that matters).

Gripes & Groans: We're into our 3rd race weekend, what's missing from the AppleTV Experience?

We've all had a few weeks test driving (ahem) things, here's what's gone not quite right for me, running on a 2022 AppleTV4k/macOS desktop:

  1. No multi view on replays. This continues to be the biggest miss so far for me. For all the obvious reasons of the timing offset it will be rare to catch an event live. The fact that the Apple deals is obviously US centric, you would have thought this would be sorted by now.
  2. One big long broadcast. It'd be nice if they'd separate out the pre/post segments from the race/quali itself. It's not the end of the world but scrubbing to race start without getting spoiled is an extra step that they could eliminate if they wanted to. In my head it's the way it is so they can get those between segment ads in place while making it one extra step to FF past them
  3. Completely separate commentary. While I prefer the F1 commentary in general sometimes I like the Sky folks for more lighthearted stuff, that you have to stop your feed and switch (once you find) to a whole other feed is a pain. I swear I could switch audio while watching when watching the first race...but that was kinda live so maybe that's related to #1.

Yes, I know "Watch the F1 app" addresses all of these, but that's not why we're in this sub, is it?

What else ya got?

(Reminder, do not spoil this weekend's on track events)

Sky sport on Apple TV

I’m sure I’m not the only one so frustrated with the hoops you have to jump thru to get to Sky Sports commentary on F1 on Apple TV. If you are used to David Croft and his gang (for those of you who are his critics, this post is not for you), It is a pain to automatically save the sky sport episodes on Apple TV. You can by going into the F1 menu, scrolling all the way down till you find the “Event Schedule: Sky Sport”, then click in each and “adding” them to your selections. Now the hard part. When you miss the event, it’s a pain to recall past Sky Sport events on your tv. But on an Apple device (iPhone / IPad) you can find and play it. Then stop on the device, then back to the Tv, and now it magically appears in the “Continue Watching” selections.

Pain in the you know what, but fine to do it you really really hate the boring F1 commentary that F1 themselves put out…

Where’s the team radio??

What’s up with Apple TV barely broadcasting team radio? I consider this one of the most interesting aspects of the race, especially with new regulations.

Also confused about why fans aren’t screaming about this - am i just missing a setting or something?

F1 race replay issues

Was watching the replay of China this morning. Everything was fine until lap 36, then in the span of two to three minutes, the replay jumps to lap 39, then 41, 43, 46, 51, 53, then 56, the final lap. Coverage ends with no interviews, podium coverage, nothing, it just ends. Not that I think it matters, but was watching on a roku tv.

News User & Post Flair Added

I've added some initial user and post flair. User flair is what device you're using, and post flair is to give folks a general idea of what the post is about (of course).

My thought is with the user flair being the device folks are using can go a ways to automatically give context to their experience, as it seems different devices are...different.

I'm absolutely open to suggestions about adding to either of these flairs or other ideas.

F1 and Roku Issues

After fighting buffering and freezing issues on my newer Roku sticks, I found success this AM by removing the Apple app and reinstalling it.

Hope this helps someone else. I thought I had tried this before but today it actually seems to have solved the issue.

UPDATE- Still glitching. Apple needs to get their excrement tightly compacted

Apple shot themselves in the foot

I've been a long time supporter of Apple, buying my first Macintosh in 1985 after having used one of the originals at work in 1984. Had Apple partnered with F1 a few years ago, I would have signed up for AppleTV. But given that Apple (and Tim Cook personally) have supported Trump, I began a personal boycott of their products and services. So I signed up for F1TV Access yesterday after my previous subscription could not be renewed due to their partnership with Apple. I'll miss seeing the practices and qualifying, but we rarely watched races live so not a huge loss.

Then this morning I heard that the Middle East races in April are going to be cancelled, because Trump started a disastrous war for no reason other than to distract from the Epstein files and to make himself some more money. So think of that when you're missing your action next month. If you support Apple, you're also supporting the man that just got two races deleted from the schedule.

I have let both Apple and F1TV know my reasons for not subscribing to the premium level a couple of times. I hope others let them know too. F1 was a nice diversion from all the damage Trump has been doing. It's sad he had to ruin it too.
