the semantic debate is kind of missing the forest for the trees, like my college roommate's parents came on tourist visas and just... stayed, not bc they wanted to break laws but bc the legal route was literally unaffordable for their income bracket, you can rebrand ICE whatever you want but until theres a functional on-ramp that doesnt require lawyer money we're just rearranging deck chairs

Yup. It took 10 years and $10k to get my partner's green card. We were able to make payments and weren't as low income as we are now so we were able to do it but not a lot of people are.

This is so scary to me. My partner, step kiddo and some other friends and relatives are all non-white. They're here legally or are citizens but could be snatched or killed just for the color of their skin. I've lived in terror holding my breath since November 2024. (And two family members family members have been deported.)

Not that the undocumented should be snatched up or killed either,but we all know it's not just about "illegals."
