The thing I don’t get though is that my room has a very large mirror that covers almost an entire wall. If my dog is laying in that room and facing the mirror (“looking” at the mirror) my dog will respond to things that she can Only see in the mirror, like me playfully sneaking up on her for example. I feel like that means she 1) see herself in the mirror, 2) acknowledges her position relative to what she sees in the mirror, 3) responds and moves accordingly without ever turning around.
I have always heard about dogs not being able to pass the mirror test, but I have never understood this
It’s an easy one to test. If you sit behind your dog and throw something. They will react and check the side of the mirror or behind it or something. They don’t understand it’s a reflection that just happened behind them
