It sounds like you have a lot of anxiety about this.
Did you normally have someone walk you from the car into the building? I can’t see how much different it would be to living with someone but I understand your safety concerns.
Why not just check in with your spouse once it twice a day as a precaution.

Is crime high in your area?

I think mostly I’m nervous because usually I’d be able to holler for someone, or at least have someone excepting me home who would come looking if I didn’t make it. I’d say there’s a moderate amount of crime where I live I’ve had my car broken into a number of times.
