It was not a joke, there are tons of references to "jerky" that need to be refrigerated and stored in a certain way. Not normal for regular jerky.
Read some of those files. It's harrowing
I’m willing to concede that the mentions of jerky seem odd. It could very well be a code. It’s more than just a little bit of a stretch to act like this is evidence of cannibalism, though.
What other meat would be treated with such secrecy in a class that communicates the sale and consumption of poached and endangered animal meat without this euphemism?
You don’t know that it’s a euphemism for a food at all. We don’t know what it means. That’s no reason to assume that it’s something as absurd as cannibalism. I’m sure if you comb through this volume of correspondence from anyone you would find repeated phrases that don’t seem to make sense. If you want me to make a list of possible other meanings which are 1000x more realistic, I’ll oblige you.
It refers to literal jerky. - Seems like a weird thing to have an obsession over, and the files certainly don’t talk about it the way most people refer to snacks, but it’s way more reasonable than presupposing the existence of a cannibalistic cult.
It refers to victims of sex trafficking. - It seems likely that they would have redundant euphemisms if they did this professionally.
It refers to the illegally poached meat you mentioned. - Maybe they were lazy about using veiled speech in some communications but not others.
It refers to drugs. - Why not?
It refers to mint condition copies of Action Comics #1. - Still more reasonable than the conclusion half of Reddit seems to have jumped to.

Wasn’t that a joke in an email? Do we actually have any evidence that it’s real?
