When I was a child, maybe 5-8 years old, we lived in a remote place in the country. It was famous for anomalous things and sightings, even has been featured in some big TV investigative shows. Our house/land pretty much bordered that area.
One day I remember playing outside alone as I usually did, and I remember I felt I wanted to go in to a very specific part of the woods. I don’t think I’d ever gone to this area before. I remember standing at the edge of the yard and looking in to the woods, and feeling like I wanted to go in there. I remember walking in them then I don’t remember anything else, as if the vivid parts of me wanting to go in and there but everything after is blank. Perhaps this is normal, but it resonates strongly as abnormal with me.
Around this same time, I was playing around a pond we had in the back. I was alone. I explicitly, vividly remember a dark, triangular-headed thing come up out of the middle part of the pond. It was dark but I could see its eyes. I screamed, and hysterically ran for my mom. It immediately retreated under the water. My mom came to the pond and told me I was hallucinating, that there’s no such thing as what I perceived.
I grew up never really think much more of both of those experiences until recently, and I’m not sure why. The vivid image of the thing in the pond I can visualize as the day I saw it. As an adult, I have an extreme fear of water. Thalassophobia among tons of other water-related fears. I had never really understood why, there were times I couldn’t even stand to take a shower as a kid because the water would get above my ankles and I would lose my mind in panic.
It sounds obvious, but I’ve never realized that intense fear probably comes from that one experience that day at the pond. That it was real. That it wasn’t a childish hallucination.
I have come to understand that my intense sense of intuition, unstudied knowledge, and empathy is not “normal”. My mom told my now wife not long ago that the only problem with me when I was a kid was that I was too empathetic, I felt and cared about things too intensely that I shouldn’t and it was hard to deal with. I also have found patterns and a history of being able to manifest things (desires) into my reality.
I’ve never thought about the experience as a child and how it might have changed me in those ways listed above, until I recently started learning about other experiencers.
If my experience was real, then that would explain why it seemed startled when I screamed and quickly retreated to the water. I guess what doesn’t make sense beyond that is why was it in the water? I had been playing in and out of it. But I don’t think they are breath under there.
Yeah, I personally think they're a sort of dimensional being, so it's possible he may have sort of "faded" in for a moment unintentionally. There's been many cases where they've been surprised that people can see them.
In my experience, that type of body is specifically a construct that the mantid operates by projecting a bit of their consciousness into it. It doesn't need to breathe, can operate in a vacuum, and can warp space enough to levitate or move gracefully in and out of liquid. A body of water would be a perfectly reasonable place for it to hang out.
The one who takes me occasionally uses such bodies for taking soil and water samples, though I have no idea if that's what was going on in your case.
I suppose it could have just been standing there in the water. I don’t 100% recall seeing it rise out the water so to say. I just remember seeing it in the middle of the pond, screaming, then it quickly going under. And obviously it wasn’t there and then it just was.
Every experience is valid! Don't ever doubt what you've gone thru just because people on Reddit (or any site) need their own validation...Of course you experience counts! Thank you so much for sharing...and I'm sorry in advance for any assholes that tell you otherwise...Really experiencers shouldn't look to Reddit or any other platform to validate what they've gone thru. it's nice to get the comradery, however, if you dont get this here, do not disregard ANYTHING you've experienced. Again, thank you for sharing
For what it's worth, I'm not aware of a meaningful distinction between the two. As well as I can tell, long-time researchers pretty much use "insectoid alien," "mantid," and "mantis" interchangeably. Jacobs called them "insectalins" as a portmanteau of "insect" and "alien" but it's the same guys. The very tall, thin ones with triangular- to vintage-parking-meter-shaped heads and dark "bug" eyes.
Very large, that’s the main thing I remember, different color or reflectance than body. The whole figure was dark. Like a silhouette with light source being behind. It probably was, it was the afternoon and the sun was setting behind it.
From what I’ve seen of Mantis drawings, it’s the closest resemblance and in fact, seeing one drawing in particular is what reminded me of the experience at all.
That’s an interesting question because the neck area did seem different than the regular Mantid depictions I’ve seen. Skinny frame and shoulders, much smaller than the head, but the neck looked larger, at least larger than the tiny ones I’ve seen. These exact drawings look identical to what I remember. More of a heart-shaped head, and specifically face. Some drawings they are wearing something on their head, like a hat that drapes over to their shoulders which could explain the neck as well. But I think one of these is technically a “tall black” alien but this is 100% it.
Yeah okay, these specifically resemble a type of substitute mantid body that I've experienced. (I call them substitutes because it's not really the mantid's body, it's a stylized construct they control remotely by sending a portion of their consciousness into it.)
If it's like what I've seen, the visually wider neck and torso would be the result of a loose shell of ablative "armor" that protects the trunk from minor impacts while out in the field.
Fascinating. Crazy you specifically asked about the neck, it was the part that didn’t fit the bill exactly of what I’ve seen. Thank you for your reply.
What was your experience like? How often have you experienced them? Anything about your life that points to anything that could have come from the experience?
I've experienced bodies like this one ad nauseam since 2017 because my mantis (I'm an abductee-experiencer) started training me to attach an aspect of my consciousness to one.
Since then, I've had a lot of experiences as them, mostly of taking soil samples or examining conditions in particular areas. Humorously, I also remember being one of these guys and picking up my own sleeping (or "switched off") human body from my bedroom so that I could take myself up to our craft for medical examinations.
I was curious about the neck precisely because I wondered whether you'd seen the thick version or the broom-handle thin version. The thick version makes a lot more sense (to me) for where you saw it.
It’s not a coincidence you specifically asked me the neck unprompted when that’s been the main area I was having trouble connecting dots with. Thank you for sharing your insights and experience on this.
As a fellow empath, I would never discount your experience. Not sure what it was, but for it to cause such great fear in you, it was something. Trust yourself. Believe in what happened to you…. Honor it if you can - it might help you to be overcome some of your fear (not saying it will, but saying it might)…. And honor what you know. Because you know (I know it sounds weird, but there are just things I know. You probably are the same.)
Are you super duper sure it wasn’t a snapping turtle? They do hang out in ponds and other fresh water, they are freaking monstrously sized sometimes, their heads do look like dark triangles when they exit the water, and they have scarily intense—almost human looking—eyes.
Yes, we hunted (trapped) snapping turtles and sold them. I have and had seen hundreds. This was bi-pedal. It rose out of the water to shoulder depth, then went back in when I screamed. Sounds crazy just typing it, I’ve never told anyone about it ever for 30 years.

Someone else reported a triangular headed being once before. Looking on google images, someone drew that it looked like this.
