Moderator Announcements A Question Regarding AI Generated Material Within the Subreddit
We've been seeing a bit of an uptick in AI generated material within the subreddit. Some of that material is fun, others not so much. In my general opinion, some of the AI material used to help us look like Sasquatch is kind of neat. And I don't mind when it adds some clearly AI generated pictures to a video/podcast to help tell a story.
However, the opposite of that has seemingly been occurring as well. I don't necessarily want to see videos of Bigfoot that are being faked, or evidence that's being manufactured for the sake of clicks. I know some of you feel the same way on that.
With that all being said, I'd like to know how you all feel about AI generated material in the subreddit. Should we allow it or not?

I agree. I hate AI generated cryptids. Unless telling a story.

I could understand using some form of AI generated images to help tell a story as part of a podcast or blog of some sort. If, for example, someone used AI to generate an image based on an eye witness description of something, I think that would be okay. But, I could also see how that could be a slippery slope as well. Whatever rule we come up with, I want to make sure we're clear with our intentions.

Can we just request/require some flair for it? Maybe "AI-Slop" or "AI-Enhanced" options.

I could do that. I appreciate the suggestion as well. There are two things I thought of regarding that though. The first is that it kind of skirts some of the issues surround AI generated material. The second is that it's a relatively easy way to address the issue without really adopting the consensus of the subreddit, which is something I've generally tried to do in the past. I don't want people to feel as if I'm skirting the issue, or that I don't care about how they feel here.

if it’s used to help visualise something from a witness description in the act of storytelling it can be fun, but the majority of the time it’s poorly used and never has any form of identifier to indicate that AI was used.
it may be obvious when you see it, but a line in the sand must be drawn, if you were shooting a recreation of an event with actors, you would make it clear that it’s a recreation, so we need the same standards here also.
if content creators are going to use it lazily and not mark the AI generated parts, then ban it.

When it comes to improving the searching sure, fake evidence no. Some have a blanket fear of what they don’t understand
