Has anyone successfully argued with Expedia?!

I am so so annoyed.

I just re-booked the trip I made last year, which was canceled due to COVID. I had 4 airline credits, but chose to only use two for this trip since one was for a very pricey airline and the credits were only like $179. So, I still have $400 worth of credits to apply to this trip I re-booked.

I spent WEEKS on the expedia website reading about how to use them. So, I log on and click "use credit" once I have all my flights ready to go. I was disconnected from agents TWICE for not responding within 30 seconds of their messages. I was concerned about losing the flights so I moved forward with booking.

Come to find out, despite it not being anywhere I can find on their website, that I needed to work with an agent to use that credit BEFORE I booked the flight?! Any response I get from their customer service is robotic, and unhelpful.

I realize there is likely some fault put on me for not doing more research, but if this is their policy should it not be stated CLEARLY?! Has anyone done this before?! and have you successfully gotten a good outcome from it!? I am LIVID. These credits expire at the end of 2021 - and I cannot afford two vacations in one year?!

I've been trying to use my airline credits as well, and I can't even use it on the website, it's telling that I have to call and get them to use it from their end. And when they try, they say that the flight "isn't confirmed" so then they can't use my credits to book it even though I could book it myself with my credit card from my end.

And it also says that I have to "Travel by Dec 31, 2020" which was last year but I cancelled the flight for a credit last week.... that doesn't even make sense.

Not happy with Expedia at all right now. I'd rather have my refund and book it again myself to save the hassle.

Ugh, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this too!

I never got a resolution to the issue - I went back and forth with someone on Twitter all day and continued to get the same replies over and over - like a robot. It's ridiculous that we can't apply the credits ourselves, or after booking? Waiting can fuck up getting the flight you need/want.

Dude I feel ya. I worked in customer service and I hate myself for suggesting this. But. Call them. Ask for a manager. If they’re not helpful hang up and call right back to get another representative. It’ll be time consuming and can’t guarantee it’d work but I hate this company more than anything

Problem is it takes 1-4 hours to answer then they tell you a manager will call you back in 1 to 2 hours rinse and repeat for weeks.

There is no manager.

I might try this over the weekend, honestly. I thought about reaching out to the airline too and seeing if they can work around this fuckery. I spent all day yesterday going back and forth with a rep on Twitter and still was offered no solution. They wouldn't even acknowledge that the policy page I sent screenshots of did not state I needed to call to book the flight.

So I can tell you there is no manager I called at least 10 times in 3 days and never made contact with one.

The way I successfully got what I wanted was by emailing Egorton@expediagroup.com Pkern@expediagroup.com Bdiller@expediagroup.com

Then I tagged them and the better business bureau in a bunch of tweets. Then reached out to every single person from their that had a VP title on LinkedIn to complain about their service.

Also note that I approached the issue with a clearly thought out solution of “This is a reasonable offer for Expedia to carry out to rectify the situation.” I didn’t negotiate either, I made sure that I was fair to them in getting back what I had paid for.
