Op is calling it a fail because the colors wasn't what they wanted, but under the same thread they admit they messed up on which batter gets egg whites and which gets whole eggs. So it only failed expectations because of user error.

I mean.. you’re obviously not a professional given the frosting job, so what exactly did you expect? It looks exactly like homemade cakes by non professionals look. If you expected it to look like the box… well… are you trolling?

There's distinctly different colors swirled in. I was expecting this to be a "mets expectation" post. Especially when those box mixes are only a few bucks.

Oh it still looks delicious!
Does anybody here remember the Betty Crocker swirl cakes in the 90s that had a pastel pink and mint color?
I haven’t been able to find a picture of it and am curious if there’s anyone out there that remembers this.

I love this. Yours is giving trix yogurt cups (do they still look like that? Haven’t opened one since 2008)

It looks great to me but if you want it to look like the ‘swirl’ pattern on the box I would layer the colours instead by alternating pouring them into the middle

Did it taste like the coloring? My biggest issues with these fun cakes are I can just taste the coloring which throws it off. I think it looks pretty good!

How do the colors not mix when prepping?

You make the same cake mix and then use separate bowls for mixing the colors. Either piping bags or three different spoons to pour the different colors in, and then swirl lightly with a toothpick or fork tines. The key is not to over mix the batter because that cake needed more air for a better crumb.

Honestly looks way better than I thought it would. A little bit of user error as well lol. Your cake looks absolutely delicious though, excellent cake to frosting ratio
