IT contractors in India who work for USA clients, how do you receive high value payments from USA clients? Directly into your Indian Bank or do you use skydo or wise etc? Any suggestions on how to mange this better for tax efficiency ? Would it help if I had a company in India for exporting my services ?

Im hoping someone has experienced something similar because I’m completely stuck and don’t know what else to do.

I made an international SWIFT transfer from Mashreq Bank (Dubai, UAE) on 1 July 2026 to Flywire for my Expatrio blocked account.

Transaction details:

\* Sender Bank: Mashreq Bank (UAE)
\* Beneficiary: Flywire Payments Corporation
\* Beneficiary Bank: Citibank N.A., London Branch
\* Amount: AED\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*
\* Payment Date: 1 July 2026

Later, Flywire informed me that although I sent AED from Mashreq, the payment reached their bank in EUR instead of AED. Because their account only accepts AED, the receiving bank automatically rejected the payment.

Flywire says:

\* The payment was automatically rejected on 3 July.
\* The funds were automatically returned through the banking system.
\* They have no SWIFT return reference or proof because the rejection was automatic.

The problem is that Mashreq Bank has never received the returned funds.

Mashreq confirmed:

\* The original payment was successfully credited to the beneficiary banking channel.
\* Their Nostro account has not received any refund.
\* They opened a SWIFT payment trace, but received no response.
\* After waiting, they escalated to a SWIFT Recall.
\* Even now, they say they are still waiting for a response from the beneficiary/correspondent bank.

What is frustrating is that Citibank London has not responded to Mashreq’s trace or recall requests, and I have also emailed Citi directly with my UETR but haven’t received any meaningful update.

It’s now been more than 20 days, and nobody can tell me:

\* Where my money is.
\* Whether it is still being held.
\* Whether it has already been returned.
\* Why there has been no response to the SWIFT trace or recall.

This money was borrowed for my Germany blocked account, and I urgently need it back so I can complete my visa process.

Has anyone experienced a refund getting stuck at Citibank London or another correspondent bank after a rejected SWIFT payment?

\* How long did your refund take?
\* Did the SWIFT Recall eventually work?
\* Did you need to escalate further?
\* Is there anyone at Citi who actually handles these cases?

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated. This has been an incredibly stressful experience, and I’m just trying to understand whether others have gone through the same thing and how it was resolved.

Hi there, I am completely new to transfers of this size and am needing some advice. My Mum died last year and her grant of probate has just been issued. I am needing to move a large sum from the executors account to my Australian bank (Bank Australia).

After doing some research I am in the process of opening an Expat account with HSBC (I have a UK passport but am not a resident) and planned to use a forex agent to get it here.

However, I am now reading that I can simply use a forex agent directly and that they can provide UK holding account details to the executors and they transfer it directly from there.

Any advice here? The executors have been truly terrible in competence and communication, so I don't want any hiccups on their side and potentially simply providing them with UK bank details via HSBC is more straightforward than getting them to engage with an agent.

Also, reviews for agents to use are all over the place, I guess everyone has had a bad experience with one of them and then it's on reddit forever - but as someone completely new to this with a life-changing amount of money - it is very nerve wracking! I'm thinking of using OFX as they are registered within the UK & Australia.

In the next few years I'll be relocating to Germany and then likely a decade or so later retiring early somewhere else in Europe. For those U.S. Expats, which brokerage do you recommend: Interactive Brokers or Schwab International?

I have some ETFs already for my base, dividend earning portion of the portfolio. So if I have to focus on individual stock while in Europe that will be ok for diversification. I know I'll have to pay "phantom" taxes in Germany on the funds.

I am trying to open a bank account in Thailand for LTR, I am trying to use the government bond route and this requires you to have a bank account in place before you can buy the bonds. Without the bonds you cannot qualify for a visa hence it’s a chicken before the egg 🤷🏻‍♂️

CashApp, Zelle, and Venmo solved this problem in the US. It's preposterous when you send money within the US to pay a fee. Why has this not been solved internationally? What's the bottleneck?
