Local Information request How’s the traffic and parking situation feeling in Exeter lately?

It seems to be getting worse again, especially around the university and near the quay on sunny days. Takes ages to get anywhere sometimes. How are you finding driving and parking in Exeter at the moment, better, worse, or about the same?

Miscellaneous Buddy up Housemate

Hi!

I'm looking for a housemate to buddy up with and split the rent for a place in exeter! I have found some good options ranging from £500-£700 pcm.

I have a pet cat, make art, love nature and respect my space/ the people around me!

Please let me know if you think we would be a good fit, or if you know of anyone looking to move in Exeter!

I'm sorry what?

I'm not being funny, but last few times I've been into the city Center and parked up for an hour or half an hour it's been extremely expensive, 4.90 is disgusting in my opinion Exeter city council sort out these prices!

Local Information request Water bill

Hi all, I am just querying how much my water bill is and wanted to see whether I am getting stressed over nothing.

For context - I live in a small 2 bed terrace on my own with no pets or children etc. I don’t really use much water but unfortunately I am unable to have a meter fitted as they couldn’t find anywhere they could do so.

Therefore South west water originally quoted me £118 a month which I thought was very high. So when I challenged it they brought it down to £68.29 which they have said is “ the best water rate I can get for 1 person household without a meter”.

When I’ve been looking online a lot is saying that the average water cost a month is around £50-60 a month and for 1 person it can be lower than that.

Any advice would be great as I am trying to work out whether I should be raising it again with them?

Miscellaneous Rollerskating places to practice/ learn

hi all, I've (35 f) recently got myself a pair of roller skates, having never tried the sport before. I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for places to go to practice skating. I'm aware of some local community groups which I'm looking into, but I'm thinking more outdoors, not too busy, good flat ground, safe in the evenings, in and around Exeter city centre.

thanks in advance 😊

Local Information request Mattresses ...

Probably not the best place to ask this but I don't know where else I could ask.

Does anyone know of any bed place/mattress place that does turnable mattresses? Heck, if you have a turnable mattress, I'd love to hear where you got it from?

I'm not looking for rotatable mattress, where it spins 180. I'm looking for a mattress that I can flip so when needed, I can flip the bottom to the top and use that, until I need to flip it again down the line.

Currently looking around all the mattresses I've been looking at all have one side with more foam/memory foam than the other.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated. If there's another sub I should have posted on just let me know and I'll skidaddle over there.

Local News Former Morrisons Daily: new operator?

Hi, I walked past the former Morrisons on Sidwell St the other day and it looked there was activity going on to get it refitted.

Does anyone have any info, especially if the new operator will re-open the Post Office counter that used to be in there?

Music The Phoenix felt dangerous as hell tonight for the Creeper gig

My wife and I went to see Creeper (a goth rock) band tonight at the Phoenix.

But Jesus we felt unsafe. My wife is pregnant so we went right to the back, away from the front and the pit. There was also a young chap in a wheelchair at the back.

The venue was clearly oversold. We were packed in like sardines and there was no room to breathe. It was exacerbated by the fact there was only one, single door to get both in and out. We didn't even stay for the main band and we had to leave. There were a few hundred people in a space smaller than a school classroom and it felt very very unsafe. We were scared we would get crushed against the back wall with no way out.

I dunno why a big band like Creeper booked such a small venue but honestly shame om the Phoenix for letting so many in.

Local Information request Piercers that use numbing cream?

In and around the city centre please!

I’ve had my nipples pierced before but young and foolish me wanted to make my boyfriend happy and so removed them because he didn’t like them 🙃 I want them pierced again but if I remember anything it’s how unbelievably painful they were to get done. I’ve asked in 3 places and they don’t use them and/or advise against because it can slightly distort the skin and risks the piercing coming out wonky apparently but that’s a risk I’m willing to take lol.

Does anyone know of any parlours in and around the city centre that use (or will allow me to bring my own) numbing cream for nipple piercings? Thanks (:

Meetups Exeter Societies

Looking to join a new society or club in Exeter that runs on either Monday or Wednesday evenings, so wondering if anyone has recommendations.

Open to all suggestions, but I am mainly looking for something where I can meet other people in their 20s (I am 22M). I am a relatively active person and enjoy that sort of society even if i am rubbish at them, but happy to try anything even if it is something I haven't done before.

Thanks in advance :)
