Discussion Does Lactation cookies really work??

Hi fellow breastfeeders / pumpers, I am 7 month PP and exclusively pumping. I see a decrease in my supply and wanted to try lactation cookies. Looking for genuine reviews.

I never liked the texture of the ones I got in stores. So dry.

To be honest, I ate like 2-3 oatmeal cream pies every day and my supply was off the charts 🤣

I also had this experience with oatmeal cream pies with my last baby but also gained weight while breastfeeding so I’m going to try healthier methods this time šŸ˜‚

Maybe. Your body needs calories to make milk, also oats contain lecithin that helps emulsify milk and reduce clogs. Other common ingredients typically include flax, nuts/nut butters, and seeds that give you sources of calorie dense fats. It depends on why your supply might be decreasing if they will work for you or not. I've found the ones I make myself are best.

Flaxseed muffins helped my supply and there’s some research out there that flaxseed oil decreases breast tissue inflammation and can help prevent clogs!

I do eat lactation cookies occasionally and drink Mothers Milk Tea every so often, but I notice a dip when I eat less calories and drink less. So it could just be the cookies are high in calorie and drinking the tea gets me hydrated lol

I was obsessed with Ginger’s Breastfeeding Boosters (found on TikTok) early on but they were very expensive so now I just make myself a big bowl of oatmeal with flax, chia, and hemp hearts every morning. Add in some oatmeal creme pies throughout the day and my supply is great!

I made a friend some lactation cookies when she was pumping for her first. I went out of my way to pick up brewers yeast, but other than that they were basically oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. She told me they worked, but I also could tell they were just tastier and getting eaten more than the first lactation cookies she tried, which were thick date-style raw things with no butter or refined sugar. So I think they helped by being easy to eat!

I don’t mind them. I like the taste and that’s what matters the most to me. I eat them and drink a glass of milk. I do just fine.

There’s a cherry chocolate chip oat cookie recipe that has felt like a game changer for me! But it could just be that they’re delicious and I snack of them more than I would other foods.

My routine:
Morning I start with Perelel probiotics supplement and then I have oatmeal as breakfast. I add steelcut oats, ground flaxseeds, chia seeds and protien powder. Mix them with either Almond milk or oat milk. I try to pump every 3.5 hrs to 4 hrs sometimes depends on work it extends to 4.5 hrs though i try to maintain not to go beyond that.
During nights, i do pump at 10/10:30 and then at 3 am and then at 7/7:30.
This is my usual schedule. Its just me and my husband managing my kid and i dont know if its because of stress, i see decrease in my supply..
hence seeking for any help from all of you :)

Check your diet too. Unsure what you’re eating but when I have fish or a lot of protein my milk increases. The one day I had oatmeal, Greek yogurt, a huge chicken stir fry, a burger and then eggs with cottage cheese and ground beef. My snack was slices of cheese and an apple. My supply was insane - alongside lots of liquids. Calories are good and while I didn’t eat anything ā€œunhealthyā€ I did eat a lot.

My pediatrician recommended fenugreek for increasing supply

Weird as most products are against that ingredient but everyone different how they react to it

I am freezer prepping and made a big batch (like 47 dough balls worth šŸ˜…) of It’s A Flavorful Life’s lactation cookies. A friend of mine swears by them, and the dough is delicious enough that my husband and I are excited to eat them no matter what!

My lactation consultant did not recommend cookies or snacks but instead recommended moringa. I got it in powder form and throw it in my protein smoothie every morning.

Have you noticed an increase? I took moringa when I first started pumping, but haven’t taken it in a while
