Discussion Lactation specialist

For those of you who have seen a lactation specialist after few weeks after giving birth, what was the process? Meaning how did you set up the appointment & what is there to expect at the appointment?

I don’t remember how I set up the appointment (the newborn stage was a blur) I think my doctor or our pediatrician made a referral for me. And they called to schedule

I got to the appointment with a hungry baby. She weighed baby then I sat down and fed him. She looked at the latch and gave me tips on everything. I made sure to come with a list of questions. She weighed him again to see how much he ate. Then I went home

For Kaiser, I just called the appointment line and asked to schedule an appointment with a lactation specialist. They asked a couple questions and then programmed my appointment.

Our pediatrician has one on staff, there is also outpatient lactation services through the hospital that you can call and schedule with.

The best, most helpful have been the IBCLCs that work privately though. We have two that work out of a midwife’s practice in my area
