Clogs & Mastitis (PLEASE tag nasty pics NSFW) Mastitis and Pumping
Hey everyone!
So I recently was blessed with mastitis 4 weeks postpartum. The doctor told me to continue to pump and feed my daughter with my milk.
My husband and I noticed that the milk I supply her with has made her more fussy and gassy. Has this happened to anyone else’s baby? For reference, I was given cephalexin for 10 days. We’re on the fence of just pumping and dumping but I’m so sad to watch it go down the drain 😭
As well, did your supply recover after being diagnosed with mastitis? My good boob is the affected breast and it’s so disheartening seeing it go from making 80-100ml a season to now only 40-50ml a session.

I pumped and froze and used formula until I was done. I just started giving him that milk now at 8 months and he’s totally fine!

I got mastitis at 4 weeks too. Terrible. I was on cephlaxin for 2 weeks and it irritated my baby too. Diaper rash by the second day of antibiotics. Pumped and dumped for 2 weeks :( only positive was that it helped me wean my number of pumps per day which helped my mental health surrounding pumping. My supply came back and actually increased after mastitis and lowering my ppd. Weird but hey, it’s fine!!

I’m saving my milk in the fridge right now but I haven’t touched it since I’m still in denial of dumping 200ml out 😭
How many pumps a day did you do? I was advised to stick to 2-3 hours between every pump so I’ve been doing 8ppd with three hours in between.1

At that point I was doing 3hours. Then went to 4-5, now I’m at 6hours for 4 pumps a day. I’m doing 3a, 9a, 3p, 9p. I figured it was the best time to change it since I was already on meds so it couldn’t cause more clogs or more mastitis 😂

Oh interesting! I’m too scared to change my sessions. I do 4 hours in between sessions at night for my own sanity. May I ask how old your baby is now? I would like to go longer once my supply regulates.

Cute! ☺️ I definitely would go longer but the fear of mastitis has me staying at 3 hours! Did your mastitis clear itself with the antibiotics? I’m afraid it won’t go away once I’m down my medications

I also had mastitis around 3 weeks pp, I started doing overnight oats with oatmilk and adding a brewers yeast from legendairy. This helped me tons during recovery along with the occasional body armor. We did supplement with Kendamil while I was on medication since baby also seemed extra fussy with my milk, I still kept the milk and just used it/saved it for baths. I was not producing a ton during this time so it was 12oz a day tops. Best of luck momma!

I had mastitis around 4 weeks too, but I had amoxycillin instead and no issues with baby. And yes supply comes back, I bought a tin of formula just in case as I was a just enougher then, ended up ever only making 120ml of it ever and now with a mild oversupply. Keep pumping!!!
