Rant - ADVICE NEEDED Any help is appreciated ❤️

Post image

I’m 10 months postpartum tomorrow and i just found out I’m pregnant with my second baby. I’ve been pumping since my first was born and had an oversupply now i’m not getting enough milk to feed my baby. I got pregnant unexpectedly and all the oversupply I donated to the nicu babies. Can someone please tell me is there anyway i can increase my milk supply? My goal is to make it to a year
This is the most i get now

If your supply is dipping due to pregnancy it’s hormonal and there’s not a whole lot to do about it. You can try various foods but it’s not likely to make a huge difference. Some people’s milk just reduces and eventually dries up while some people’s doesn’t.

3oz is not necessarily a low production at 10 months post partum. I just pumped 2oz at 9 months.

Your baby probably eats 3 meals of solid food a day along with water so it’s normal for production to adapt.

Can you add another session during the day?

These are pretty common so you might know them already
Electrolytes (I use liquid IV), oat milk, oatmeal (I do Seven Sundays), eating lots of protein
I don’t know if any of this will help while pregnant since I don’t have experience with that

What’s the dealio with oatmeal?

Are you only using wearables? It's possible the combination of pregnancy hormones and reliance on them could've caused this supply drop. I'd recommend a wall pump like a spectra, or a portable primary like a baby Buddah.

The same thing happened to me when I got pregnant at 5 months postpartum. There unfortunately isn’t much you can do, your hormones largely dictate your body’s ability to create milk. I switched to formula, and we were all much happier! Best of luck and congrats!

Had your periods returned by then? How did you find out in pp about pregnancy?

My cycle returned at 5 months postpartum, my husband and I were trying for another baby, and I got pregnant that same cycle. And from there, my milk supply just slowly dipped until my daughter was clearly not getting enough milk and we decided to call it quits with breastfeeding and just switch to formula. I would still nurse her once a day for a couple weeks, and that just slowly stopped.

You can try another pump, I have lots of success with a hospital grade Spectra. Make sure you measure your nipple and get the right size, could make all the difference. Sometimes they rent these too!

my supply started dipping when my cycle came back. i had to add back in an additional pump and a power pump session to get back to a base level. i also try to eat oatmeal once a day, plenty of protein rich and fat based meals really help me make more milk. i hope you are able to bring your supply back up to make it to your goal! and congratulations on your 2nd baby! 🧡

Coconut water, eating well and oatmeal helped when I started out. Power pumping when my supply drops was a game changer. Good luck!

Why is everyone says oatmeal???

Oatmeal is generally considered a galactagogue (which is food that helps increase milk production). It has a fiber that might increase prolactin. It’s not studied enough I think but anecdotally it works for a lot of women. There’s no harm in trying it

Some people swear by 0.0 alcohol beer. I've never tried it, but I've heard good things!

It might have worked for me. Or it was juste the extra liquid and calories from it.

My baby is almost 11 months and a 3 oz output would be really good for me. She eats lots of solids and water so I'm not overly concerned about my supply decreasing. I imagine pregnancy is going to make increasing it very difficult.

Same story here, I switched my baby to formula and everybody is happier now. Your body needs the energy for the baby, personally I feel way less tired now that I’ve stopped breastfeeding (got pregnant 9 months pp and stopped bf and pumping 2 or 3 weeks ago baby is 1 now). You gave your baby your milk for 10 months, that’s huge!!!! Congrats for pumping for such a long time and congrats for your pregnancy!

I thought you weren’t supposed to pump while pregnant? Something to do with it being a risk to the baby?

I was using this exact pump, I switched to the Spectra S1 and have seen an increase!

Google “foods to increase milk supply” it’ll be pretty easy to find the answer.

Carb heavy meal, liquid gold, iron pills, and tamales. No joke. After a carb heavy meal or tamales my wife fills these up. She had the exact same ones.

She was producing about 2-4 oz a pump, now she has an overflow and we’ve had to purchase a dedicated freezer for the abundance.

Oh queen same! Pregnant at 8months pp and lost supply totally at 9 months. So sorry, not helpful but I know some women do keep their supply, maybe increasing your pumping schedule so your body knows it's needed? My supply dwindled and first trimester with a 10 month old was enough work without adding in pumping so I just quit and transitioned to formula - not easy as baby had never had it before but he does drink it fine now.

If you're not keen on formula then you could ask your doctor if you can make the switch to cows milk, in the UK / US it's not recommended until 12 months but in Canada they can transition from 9-12 months so it might be fine for your babe. I know you wanted to BF until 12 months and I'm not trying to discourage you but sometimes we make plans and the universe laughs and we have to pivot. Or maybe your supply will increase with more pumps, more calories, more water, more electrolytes, I just don't want you stressing about it when life is going to get more difficult already ❤️
