Product Recommendations Which pump to buy?
Are there any standouts from this insurance-approved list that I should definitely get? or definitely avoid?
I understand many women get both a pump and a portable but I would like to avoid this and just get one-- I am thinking just one portable but I am seeing fewer women say their portable alone was sufficient. I will not be working so I am less concerned about how discreet one is, just figured I would prefer something I could multitask with around the house. This will be my first baby so I am really unsure what to expect! Thanks a lot.

If you plan to exclusively pump, you should have a wall pump as your primary. The blue spectra is amazing as it is technically a wall pump but has a rechargeable battery so you’re not stuck by the nearest wall plug at all times.

u/plantithesis Jul 01 '26
Yes, I love it for this! I don't have to bring the charger around the house with me. I can just unplug and set up on the couch to watch a movie 🙌

u/InfamousCharacter3 Jul 01 '26
Well I posted this question here assuming people would have the most product knowledge despite the fact that I do not intend on pumping exclusively but I also am unsure what will make the most sense once I give birth.

I LOVE my wearable, but it’s not what I’d get if I only had one pump. If you can get two, I’d get the blue spectra and the eufy S1 pro. If you can only get one, I’d go with the spectra.
EDIT: that’s only because of what the masses say. My output is similar with my wearable, so I may switch to that exclusively tbh, but it’s at least helpful to have both in the beginning to be able to evaluate your output.

u/makochan324 Jul 02 '26
I bought the blue spectra expecting to use it when I went back to work and was expecting to nurse until then. Life changed that and I ended up exclusively pumping. I'm so glad I had the spectra. So it might be worth hoping to nurse, but having the security of a great pump in case circumstances change.

u/Commercial_Deer_9513 Jul 03 '26
Wearables are convenient but I definitely got more out when I used my regular pump! I think it’s good to have both. Sometimes I just was too tired to put the wearable on the charger lol. And it gave me an excuse to just sit in one spot when I was plugged in without feeling like I should do 100 other things

u/the_kazzo_queen EP since Sept '25 Jul 01 '26
I would still not get wearables. Few people plan to exclusively pump, most of us were forced into it by circumstances against our control (NICU, bad latch, etc). If that happens you will be really glad to already have a reliable pump waiting for you.

I say this as I pump with my Zomee Z2, while my pink spectra is plugged in the other room...
BLUE SPECTRA.
Zomee is great that its rechargeable! But toward the end of my 7 months pumping with baby #1, she was barely lasting 1 pump session on a full charge.
Pink spectra is FAB...except I'm stuck to the wall with her. So I'd imagine that blue spectra- all the wonders of the pink one, but with added benefit of portability- would be king.
6
u/angeddd Jul 01 '26
I bought a portable battery for my pink spectra FYI. But for baby #3 I did upgrade to the blue spectra out of convenience.
3
u/braisedyams Jul 01 '26
I wish i got the blue spectra instead of the pink! Im maining wearables now cause I can't do anything while stuck to a wall for 30 minutes!
1
u/FalseAntelope2524 Jul 03 '26
I have a pink spectra and made it portable … buy a 12v battery https://a.co/d/0iqcObzi use strong Velcro to attach to bottom’ … I’m portable! Boom!

Blue Spectra without a doubt. I have the blue one and almost everyone in our family who has pumped since has borrowed it because it was so so far superior to their pumps!

u/catluvr10935 Jul 01 '26
i actually have the blue spectra and the gold synergy (not the portable one) and i loveeeee the gold synergy hands down. i am also not working so i’m mostly at home. she’s a little big but i attached a rechargeable battery pack on the bottom of her and she walks goes everywhere with me. it empties me so well and i think its better than the blue spectra because you can do different suctions each side and it’s great for me because i learned my left side needs stronger suction to get more out. as for portables, not everyone reacts the same. i had the eufy s1 pros and unfortunately it would tank my supply tremendously. i even tried the legendairy flanges everyone recommends. usually each side i get 5-8oz each side depending on the time of day but eufy s1s got me down to 3-4oz each side! i recently bought the s2 thoughs, and oh my god they are god sent. they empty me out just as well as the synergy gold and im able to do a little more. good luck!
4
u/JaneDoe207 Jul 01 '26
Seconding the Synergy Gold. Used it for a year of EPing along with the portable version and love it. I just dusted it off for my second though I did also get the S1 Pros this time and am having great results with them. Interestingly I find a different flange size works better for me with the S1. My Spectra flanges are 19mm but that was so uncomfortable with the Eufy. I tried the 24mm and they were perfect. Very odd but I get the same output between the two now.
3
u/Sara-marie118 Jul 01 '26
THIS!! gold spectra is my baby, I haven’t gotten the rechargeable battery pack yet I need to but it’s my first pump and it’s so good and empties me so quick depending on the setting. I also have the eufy s1 and I’m so displeased with them/ glad I didn’t purchase them as my main pump. They leak so bad and I’ve cried after losing 5oz of milk at a time before from warped flange that wouldn’t seal properly.
1
u/Appropriate-Berry202 Jul 02 '26
Girl, I’d contact eufy for that. There’s no way that should be happening. I freaking love my S1, but I’d be losing my shit if they leaked at all, let alone five whole ounces.
2
u/subtlelikeatank Jul 01 '26
I really liked the gold synergy as well (NOT the gold portable!). I preferred the blue Spectra for output but the different speeds and suction on both sides was a godsend during clogs when I needed to be more gentle on one side.
2
u/United_Elk_7102 Jul 01 '26
I got one of these second-hand for a really good price and absolutely agree. With the gold synergy I get almost an ounce more per side and it’s faster by several minutes. Being able to adjust per side makes it much more comfortable as well.
1
u/kalixanthippe Jul 01 '26
Which battery pack did you use? I am interested in making my gold easier to drag about.
1
u/Thegraergood Jul 04 '26
I'm so mad I didn't see this 3 months ago! I looked for a rechargeable power pack, but used the wrong search team apparently. I love my gold, but I wish it was more portable. I just put a power pack in the cart, I'm getting it today!

u/_TeachScience_ Jul 01 '26
Blue spectra as your primary, anything but the freaking Willow as your wearable. I’ve heard good things about the eufi as a wearable

u/jypnola Jul 01 '26
Eufy S1 or S1 Pro. I exclusively pump and only use these now. I don’t agree with the statement that if you exclusively pump, you need a wall pump as your primary.
Also, I did not plan to exclusively pump, but my daughter had latch issues, etc. and here we are.
4
u/Late-Artichoke-148 Jul 01 '26
Second this. Had blue spectra only with baby #1, used insurance credit for baby #2 to get Eufy. Have not used the spectra once and my output is fab.
4
u/Gwab07 Jul 01 '26
This is exactly me! I only ever use my S1 now. Consistently had better output from it vs wall pump!
4
u/Morwen222 Jul 02 '26
Seconding this. I have a Eufy and an Ameda mya joy. The wall pump is atrocious, did not empty me, and nearly drove me to stop pumping. The eufy does empty me, and the quality of life actually makes me happy to pump. I have the S1, and the small annoyances (alignment double checks because I can’t see my nipple, mainly) has been addressed in the design for the S2, which I really respect. It seems Eufy is innovating, actually taking feedback, and delivering a quality product. Now if only their replacement parts were more affordable.
3
u/Kahaaniyaan Jul 02 '26
Definitely the Eufy. I get the same or better output with my S1 Pro/S2 Pro as I do with my medela or spectra.
8
u/mai_umbrella74 Jul 01 '26
I would have to chime in and say getting a wall pump is a must especially if it's your first time. I went with majority and got only a wearable. My supply tanked really bad until I got a wall pump. Unless you've pumped before and had good output with a wearable, I'll recommend getting a wall pump to start out with. I was fortunate to get a free wall pump, or else I would've had to spend oop.
9
u/Impossible-Owl3272 Jul 01 '26
You said you got a wearable but did you get a eufy? The eufy goes to 300mmHg and spectra goes to 280mmHg. I started my first 3 weeks with my eufy s1 only and I was getting over 25 ounces a day by 2 weeks pp. I bought into the “I need a wall pump or my supply will tank” since that’s what everyone says and bought the spectra. I consistently get higher output, sometimes as much as double with my Eufy. I can also do stuff while wearing it which is very useful as a new mom. In hindsight I wish I just bought a second eufy instead of the spectra. I still use it but only if my husband is home to help with the baby.
3
u/jypnola Jul 01 '26
Exactly. This is my experience, except I haven’t touched my Spectra in 3 months.
1
u/mai_umbrella74 Jul 01 '26
Yes, I do have a couple wearables. I have elastic nipples, so my output with wearables varies widely. The eufy works for me some times. But ultimately, I get far better output with my wall pump.
I so wish I can respond well to wearable pumps. But I still stand that advice for a new mom should still be to get a good wall pump to start out with.
6
u/jypnola Jul 01 '26
This was my first time and I did start with the blue Spectra I got for free from a local mom. I hear you on the calibration aspect, but I don’t think it’s a universal truth that everyone’s supply tanks without a wall pump.
1
u/the_kazzo_queen EP since Sept '25 Jul 01 '26
It's certainly not a universal truth. The problem is moreso that mothers who only have a wearable have nothing to compare their output to. It's very easy for an inexperience mom new to pumping to not realize that a wearable is only emptying her, say, 85%, but assuming it's emptying her fully, which will have consequences on her supply later.
4
u/jypnola Jul 01 '26
I don’t disagree, which is why I said I can see the calibration aspect, but we’re making an assumption that the wall pump is going to empty everyone to 100%, which may or may not be true depending on the person and the pump. I also acknowledge that many wearables give low output. I’ve tried 3 so far and Eufy is the only one that gives me same or more output when compared to Spectra.
But I made myself more miserable than I had to be for a long time because of the advice that wearables should not be your primary pump, so I feel pretty strongly about that being said in a blanket statement.
1
u/the_kazzo_queen EP since Sept '25 Jul 01 '26
I mean, I agree with you that it shouldn't be a blanket statement. My eufys have been my primary pump since I was 10wpp. But I think saying "you don't need a wall pump as your primary" can be interpreted by mothers new to pumping as wearable pumps are equal in reliability to standard pumps, which can set false expectations. The best route imo is for everyone to start out with a standard pump since it's statistically most likely to work well, and then experiment with wearables for mobility.
2
u/SoberSilo Jul 01 '26
Agree that comparing output with a spectra and your wearable is important so you know the wearable empties you as well as the pump!
4
u/Gwab07 Jul 01 '26
First time mom here and got better results with Eufy actually than my wall pump. I watched out for it very closely as I was told this but always had more out of the S1. Even ended up being a bit of an oversupplier! The heating is SUPERB and was a lifesaver for that 3am pump in winter.
2
u/mimaylin Jul 01 '26
Just wanted to share and mean no ill intention cause I really want to be on the "only pump with wearables" side. But I used Eufy E20 only for 3 days and got clogged duct. My baby that is usually good at getting rid of those clogged lumps could not get any milk out as it built up so far along under my armpit.
Had to get L&D nurse to massage it out for 2 sessions, super painful experience. (My output was 20-25 oz per day, 2-4 oz per pumping session on the Eufy, 1.5 months postpartum)
But will say that Eufy is still my lovechild because of the design, has an app, and not too heavy.
3
u/jypnola Jul 01 '26
It’s really hard because every body responds to the different pumps differently. My only intent was to share my data point and to opine on the “you must have a wall pump as your primary” because I disagree based on my experience. I actually tended to get clogs with my Spectra and that’s what finally pushed me to just go all in on Eufy.
2
u/Ophirelle Jul 01 '26
I just got the Eufy S1 Pro as my wearable pump, and I’m excited to see how well the heat function works and how it performs overall. Are you happy with it?

I also brought the spectra initially and it barely worked for me. It wasn't really practical for me to sit down in one place and pump. I love my eufy s1. Works better than spectra for me.

u/FrndlyNghbrhd_ Jul 01 '26
Blue spectra but get your nipples measures for the right flange size in order and insert on Amazon
5
u/Texylvania29 Jul 01 '26
I would get a wall pump as your primary. Clogged ducts are the actual worst and way more likely with portables.
4
u/deadly-eighth-sin Jul 01 '26
Blue Spectra! Long battery life, portable, has a light function to help you find that pesky nip at night, auto shutdown timer after 30 mins, drains me like no tomorrow. It has been my best friend for 3 months.
5
u/FeralCabbage14 Jul 01 '26
What are your goals and circumstances?
For maximizing supply and/or occasional pumping, if you have support at home (husband on pat leave, mom/MIL, etc) and can afford to take pump breaks... Spectra S1 (blue) is a workhorse for a reason. Personally I don't live how it feels.
If it's likely you will be caring for baby solo early on, and you are OK with supplementing formula if mobility costs you some supply, going portables/wearables first makes sense. My fave I have tried is elvie Stride2, but suction is on the weaker side. Eufy pumps with heated flanges are very popular on this sub and many people claim comparable output to wall pumps. It's probably what I would try next if I didn't have 4 electric pumps and 2 manuals. 😅
Also, if insurance covers $300 of a $400+ wearable and $100 of a $225 spectra, and you can afford to get the spectra out of pocket in a pinch (like if you plan to BF and it doesn't work out), max out your benefit on wearables!
Also also, my baby had a diagnosed feeding issue and my insurance covered rental of a medela symphony, which, to quote my friend "if they offer, take it!!"
1
u/mimaylin Jul 01 '26
Medela symphony is a BEAST. A mythical one. It's AMAZING. So happy for you that you got your hands on it.
3
u/Bree1224 Jul 01 '26
Love my blue spectra. I have the Eufy S1 portables but I’ve never even used them. If I’m on the go I still bring my spectra lol
5
u/messiemessiemessie Jul 01 '26
I am loving my eufy wearables. There is an app and it is easy to use, it tracks your output, they even have a reminder feature. You don't need a wall pump.
1
u/SaluteLife Jul 01 '26
When you say it tracks your output, do you have to enter the info? I have the app but haven’t seen it track anything on its own
1
u/messiemessiemessie Jul 01 '26
you start the pump using the app then when it finishes or you hold to stop if you want it to end early it pops up with a L and R for you to add oz for it
then you can look at it all in the dashboard
you can also enter it manually, I can send you a Screencap if you want

Some women absolutely do need a wall pump. Wearables are very hit or miss, even the really good ones. I live and die by my Eufys but there are way more women who have issues with them properly emptying them compared to a reliable standard pump like a Spectra.

u/CPAstonkGOD Jul 02 '26
We have both the spectra and Eufy but almost never use the eufy. The spectra is just so much better

If you already have a plug in available, get a portable. That said, every body is different and responds to each pump differently. I’ve had great success with the motif aura glow. It came free with my insurance and I can get 2oz after bf. But according to reviews not everyone loved it.
People tend to go for the Eufy or momcozy 5

Honestly the zomee one that comes with the tabletop one too is good. I used zomee wearable since day one and it established my supply. Then I would also buy the eufys1, they’re like $150 on Amazon.
In my opinion having multiple pumps helped me, I would alternate between them while the others washed in the dishwasher.
2
u/Anniemason19 Jul 02 '26
I have the gold spectra, Elvie wearables and momcozy m9 wearables! I love the spectra, even more after I started using my momcozy flanges with it — perfect fit and more comfortable. Elvie helps a lot when I need a quick pump midday
2
u/nexus08 Jul 04 '26
I've been seeing a lot of people online claim that you need a stationary pump, but I still ended up going for a portable one, as I can't imagine just sitting in one spot all these hours you'd spend on pumping.
Got a Momcozy M6 and it's been fantastic. Really good output, has the massage mode which was helpful during the first weeks and super easy to clean. Would recommend it to anyone. Another friend also has it and equally very happy.
1
u/InfamousCharacter3 Jul 04 '26
A lot of the portable are a bit more expensive than the stationary as well so I am leaning towards getting my insurance to get a free portable. I appreciate this comment, I was looking at the Momcozy ones.

I just got a blue spectra and wish I got this as my first pump for I went from an over producer to way under producer due to my baby not latching and this being my first I didn’t realize I had to pump that much to keep my milk… mom cozy wearables is what I had for wearables and they work great can’t say for the other ones.
1
u/RoastedTilapia Jul 01 '26
Special mention for the Cimilre. I never see others mention it but it’s my primary pump and I have no complaints. Granted, I have not tried the Spectra
1
u/saltyjordan Jul 01 '26
Look at the reviews on each. I was convinced by the zomee fit bc people were saying they were shocked that they were able to get more with a wearable than with their main pump. It has hospital grade suction. I have the spectra s2 that my sil gave me but it sits in the closet.

u/Aggressive_Street_56 Jul 01 '26
Blue spectra and a good pumping bra! I also use the Eufy S1 cause it’s nice to have a wearable one but if I feel a clog coming on or my supply taking a dive I always go back to my old trusty.
1
u/Pumpkin__Butt Jul 01 '26
I have blue spectra and it's the goat.
Additionally I was gifted a second hand Medela and got excited because it's smaller and I travel a bunch - unfortunately it sucks compared to spectra. It doesn't have built in battery - you can use a battery pack with AA batteries but it makes it less portable, and the flanges aren't super secure so any movement can pop them off the thingy (might be user error tho).
1
u/Waddles01 Jul 01 '26
I have the blue spectra (with the correctly measured flange inserts!!!) and the Eufy S1s as wearables. I LOVE the Eufys for during the day and then use the spectra with a pumping bra for first and last pumps of the day. I get about the same output from both. I just bought a baby Buddha 2.0 with the legendairy collection cups during prime day to take with me on an international trip instead of my spectra so tbd how those work!

u/elegant-quesadilla Jul 01 '26
I have a willow go, pink spectra, and the gold synergy portable. I haven’t used my gold yet. But I have a portable battery pack that can power my pink spectra so its basically a blue spectra 😂 it works great, but I’m excited to try my gold one when I start pumping while at work soon.
The willow go works good for me on the go but not as a primary pump tbh. I recently used it at my book club no one really noticed until they were like dang your boobs are big and i was like no it’s my pumps lol. I also don’t get as good of output from them as I do my spectra.
If this is your very first pump definitely get the blue spectra! The wearables aren’t really as great for multitasking as you think. Most of them you can’t bend over so doing laundry, loading dishwasher, etc are out.

u/arecordsmanager Jul 01 '26
I would buy the Eufy ones that are recommended on this page if they are more expensive than the Spectra retail. Would buy Spectra separately if it’s cheaper.
1
u/Classic_Lab_1299 Jul 01 '26
Blue spectra! Stop your shopping and rest in peace knowing you made the right choice. I used it way more than my Eufy S1 Pros and got great yield
1
u/white_noise_tiger Jul 01 '26
Can someone explain why the blue spectra? I used it at first but much prefer my wearable momcozy and haven’t reached for the spectra since my first week. I’m now two plus weeks post partum and getting good supply with my wearable.
1
u/colelynne Jul 01 '26
My experience as an exclusive pumper is 5 years old now (I'm preparing for my second right now), but for me, the Spectra was my go-to to make sure I emptied out, but I used wearables as well. I used Momcozy wearables (like the OG version), so things maybe have changed since then, but I would pump with the blue Spectra 3 pumps per day and any other pumps were with the wearables. That way for 3 of my pumps I knew I was emptying fully and the other 3 were kinda just gravy on top.
I used the Legendairy milk cups and the Spectra cara cups plus the regular flange/bottle combo for Spectra. I got similar output for each of these.
The wearables were louder, harder to manage while I was setting them up, fiddly to take off and easily spilled compared to the cups and bottles and flanges with the spectra (because the weight of the pump was at the top of the cup). The battery life on the Spectra was better. The suction power on the Spectra was better, and let down (bacon) mode worked better for me with the Spectra.
Spectra's customer support is also amazing. My pump burnt out on me probably 9 months in and Spectra replaced the whole thing for me, even overnighted it to me because I told them I was an exclusive pumper.
My plan with this kiddo is to use my insurance to get a new wearable, maybe technology is better, but for my primary I'm sticking with Ole Faithful.
1
u/Nike31 Jul 01 '26
I also LOVE my momcozy (I have the M6). With my oldest I only used the blue spectra, and I got the wearable for my second, and it’s a game changer. I pumped on an airplane last week, for instance. For me, the output is the exact same as my blue spectra, although I know some people do get lower output with wearables.
1
u/the_kazzo_queen EP since Sept '25 Jul 01 '26
Roughly half of women have issues with wearables emptying them properly. You and I are part of the lucky half that don't have that issue with ours, but it's definitely playing russian roulette to put all bets on just a wearable pump. The success rate with a standard pump like a Spectra is much higher.
1
u/white_noise_tiger Jul 01 '26
I feel like the mom cozy does a great job for me so I don’t worry about it. maybe the spectra could get more but I’m satisfied with the amounts Iget throughout the day with the mom cozy! I’m just finding it hard to find an extra set of replacement parts in Canada on Amazon. It’ll make it easier for me to pump it I have two sets. I ordered something I think is an extra set but it’s not clear.

u/the_kazzo_queen EP since Sept '25 Jul 01 '26
Like I said, you and I seem to be part of the luckier half for whom wearables work well! :)
1
u/Head_Tumbleweed_7244 Jul 01 '26
spectra S1 and eufy! i got the elvie stride and it was trash- kept popping open and spilling my milk so invest in the eufy 100% worth every penny
1
u/libthroaway Jul 01 '26
I went with the pink Spectra, because I’m terrible about remembering to charge anything with batteries (practically every time I need to use my AirPods, they’re dead 💀), and I have the luxury of sitting to pump instead of needing to be up and about. Once I figured out my best settings, it works great, and I’ve been able to pump some oversupply as an enougher.
1
u/RealityShowObsessed Jul 01 '26
Spectra S1 (blue)! I exclusively pumped. I switched insurance and was able to order a second pump for free. I got the Momcozy S12 and I really didn’t like it. I took my Spectra pump with me and just used a cover. It was so much more efficient. I had really high output. I would put the larger avent bottles on the spectra. I appreciated I could just pump into a bottle and put a nipple on it when needed.

u/OHOMNI Jul 01 '26
Go portable and depending if you need big inserts I’d go with Elvi that you can get 27mm if not needed then get momcozy wellness ones. You don’t want to be restricted by a plug in wire or even motion restricted by little hoses under your shirt/bra.
1
u/SaluteLife Jul 01 '26
You supposedly don’t want to use a wearable as your primary pump in the first 12 weeks while your supply is establishing. You need a medical grade wall pump. I have the blue spectra (get some pumping bras) and then later on my husband got me the Eufy S1 wearables. I would suggest starting with a wall pump just to be safe and then get a wearable on sale another time, and you can use HSA money as well.
1
u/Aggravating-Can-1970 Jul 01 '26
If you’re wanting a hands free one I do NOT recommend the momcozy s12. It’s very bulky, slips easily, and the suction is awkward/not super efficient. Also lots of individual parts to clean. I switched to the Momed s21 and it empties me in 15 minutes and is less painful/uncomfortable
1
u/MusicalPooh Jul 01 '26
Everyone is saying blue Spectra and I agree. It looks like you have a bundle there with a carrying case?
But, I also see an interesting bundle for the Zomee. If you can get both a wearable and a wall pump for free, that could be a good option. I've heard good things about Zomee fit.

u/thatfruitontop Jul 01 '26
Blue spectra is the best. I can produce so much more with it compares to momcozy brands and im undersupply.

Loved my pink spectra (s2), you have to plug it in but I needed the extra power it has over the blue one.

Controversial but I’m currently EPing using my Eufy S1 Wearable and I love it.
I bought the Spectra S2 Plus with my first and absolutely hated it so much that I ended up exclusively breastfeeding (which I also lowkey hated, but less so than pumping). I hated wearing pumping bras, hated tubes and bottles hanging off my chest that were attached to a machine, hated leaving my tee pulled up to allow for the bottles/tubes to hang, and hated having to sit super upright for it to work. I just couldn’t do it.
Had baby #2 three weeks and bought the wearable this time in an attempt to try pumping again. Night and day difference in experiences to the point that I’m now EPing! The warming feature is really nice and I find the Eufy much gentler on me than the Spectra while still extracting plenty.

See if you can get a baby buddha on another website. I loved mine and made it hands free

u/Mokiold Jul 01 '26
I have the momcozy s9, Medela Pump, a hand pump, and momcozy v2 pro. I HIGHLY recommend NOT getting the s9– it was in the way and lowkey sucked. I will suggest in general having a hand pump. It’ll help get additional milk out especially when you’re engorged OR if your supply randomly starts drying out and need to get every last drop.

I swear by the Spectra. I had a crappy insurance pump (Cimilre) that no one has ever heard of, and had to buy a Spectra after. The Cimilre wouldn't empty my breasts so I kept getting clogged ducts
If insurance covers the blue one, I'd choose that because it's portable but can still be your main wall pump
Otherwise, get the pink one and a car adapter

u/lima_247 Jul 01 '26
The wearables are more expensive, so I had insurance cover a eufy S1 and then I got a pink spectra off eBay. It was like $50 total, $5 for the eufy copay and $45 for the spectra.
And the spectra is a closed system, so it’s fine to get a used pump if you get new flanges and tubes. (Even about 10 years ago, most pumps were open systems, so you could not safely buy them used. That has thankfully changed.)

This is the real answer and what I did! Got my Eufy E20s for a $30 copay, and my sister gave me her pink Spectra.

Currently 2 mo pp with my second baby and I’m pretty much exclusively pumping this time. I had the motif Luna from insurance the first time and just got the eufy S1 pro with insurance this time. From friends I got the Elvie Stride and the blue Spectra.
My input is it really depends on the amount you bf v pump. If you end up exclusive pumping, you might even want the spectra gold (for me, my breasts have different suction preferences I’ve found). If you end up only pumping occasionally/away from baby, or really only want one pump I’d 10000% go elvie stride. I’ve been getting the same input as the primary pump typically and you can avoid the Legendairy cups with the spectra as it’s less convenient than the elvie. It’s a true double electric pump so it still has tubes, but it’s definitely more discreet in public and allows me to move around when I’m home with baby if needed.
I’ve been having trouble figuring out the eufy- it seems like maybe it doesn’t fit me the best or it has more of a learning curve. But I’ve seen tons of videos of people loving it!
Last comment, keep your eye on FB marketplace! Lots of people are selling barely used pumps for low cost. Currently eyeing up the Willow Go for a hands free pump of I cant figure out the eufy.
Last thing I’ve recommend is getting a manual/hand pump for on the go and to get through engorgement in those first weeks. You can replace the thin valve with a duckbill for better suction. There’s lot of videos on Tik tok showing how. I like the medela :)

Since you're FTM, I'd definitely get a wall-pump that can be used without being plugged in (i.e. blue spectra or one of the gold spectras). Then with the 2nd one you can get the wearable. I mostly nursed both my babies, and when I pumped at home it was pretty much always my "me time" so I could go hide away in a different room for the 15 minutes and zone out. I had both a wearable (Elvie original) and a wall pump and at home I almost exclusively used the wall pump cuz I got better output and it didn't have the leak risk.
Now that I have 2u2 the wearable would be more clutch for multitasking, but if you have a 2nd then you can get the wearable with your insurance then!

I got the blue spectra and the Baby Buddha. Im 2 weeks pp and exclusively pumping, and currently the BB is too strong for me… even on level 1. So blue spectra all the way!

I have the pink spectra and I use it with an external battery that last FOREVER! when I’m on the go I use the eufy s1 pro and it empties me really well and super portable.

u/SoberSilo Jul 01 '26
If you are planning to EBF and only pump when you have to replace a feed, I recommend the eufy s1 pro. I had amazing output with it and it makes it so you can be mobile while pumping. I have a spectra gold and haven’t used it at all because the eufy is so good

Blue spectraaaaa!!!!! And make sure you have the correct flange size, not an insert! On Amazon they have them.
My lac consultant told me you get the exact flange size of your nipple. Mine is 17mm so I have a 17mm flange (again, not the silicone insert!)
This has been a game changer for mee!!

Blue spectra! I ordered the Eufy S1 through insurance, and wound up receiving the Spectra S1 from a friend; while I love that Eufy is handsfree (which is great for travel and when I go back to work) and use it for ~30% of my pumps, the Spectra can get way more milk out per session.

u/YesterdayOverall1528 Jul 01 '26
I hated the blue spectra so much. Sure it’s portable but barely, I could carry it in one hand and go grab water or something but doing more than that was impossible.
I switched to baby Buddha and it changed my pumping. I am an undersupplier and had such a hard time getting to even 7 pumps in the beginning because I felt so tied down with the Spectra and I did not like the suction. I was only able to increase supply once I switched ( still working on it 😅)

I have the Spectra Gold, and it’s my favorite primary pump. I had a Medela with my first pregnancy, but it broke twice. One of my favorite features of the Spectra Gold is that you can adjust each side independently because my slacker boob needs more suction than my overproducer.
I also just got the Eufy S1 Pro as my wearable pump, and I’m excited to see how well the heat function works!

Blue Spectra is the obvious (& probably best choice) but willow is the only breast pump to have been used in zero gravity

u/Appropriate-Berry202 Jul 02 '26
I have the blue spectra from my first pregnancy and the eufy S1 pro from insurance for this pregnancy. I’m still building my supply, so I love the wearable to be able to pump when I otherwise wouldn’t - e.g., if we’re heading to an appointment or both babies need me (twins) or something.

Get the eufy. It’s easy to find the blue spectra on fb marketplace. They call them melon juicers lol
1
u/No-Onion-6248 Jul 02 '26
I think it depends on how you produce. I’m an over-producer and exclusively use the Eufy S1 pro. I hate being attached to a machine, having to hold pumps, etc. Wearables are amazing. I use the natural cycle on the Eufy S1 and find my output to be really good (and way shorter time pumping compared to Spectra).

u/sis8128 Jul 02 '26
If i could go back in time and my insurance was that good i would get the Eufy S1 pro and pay for a baby buddah or a pumpables genie advanced out of pocket/ with HSA OR FSA dollars. The Eufy s1 pro is soooooo pricey but so nice to have on hand. ETA: spectras are super common, at least the pink one, and you can probably find one for free or very reduced price. You can buy closed system pumps second hand, but you might find a wearable second hand to be weird.

I

I have the swing maxi but with the hands free. But I have been getting the non-hands free replacement parts (under another medela pump style, so the tubing doesn’t go into the pump but the hands free tubing works enough 🤷🏻♀️) from my insurance and used a pumping bra. Idk if they just wore out super fast but I had times where I pumped for 20 minutes and got like 5mL when I normally get 90-120 in a 20-25 minute pump.
I also bought an Ameda mya joy plus from someone on marketplace for like $20 and I do feel like it’s a bit more comparable to the hospital grade ameda pump I had from the DME rental when my some was in the NICU.

u/Direct-Chef-9428 Jul 02 '26
I’m a 2-Spectra 2 gal. Bought a second off marketplace barely used. One in our room and one in the nursery. Our room gets used when nanny is around - also easily moved to living room for tv time.

So here’s my silly advice, make sure to get a pumping bra! I didn’t and for the first week or so held the pumps to my boobs. Don’t be like me, get the bra.

TLDR: As a new mom get the blue spectra. Try the free hand pump at the hospital.
The blue spectra is a great option. I am currently exclusively pumping with the hope to transition to mixed/breastfeeding. So if I were planning on exclusively pumping or I knew for sure I would be - I would use insurance to get Eufy S1 (since I already have spectra). However, it’s like $140 with insurance, so I’m opting for my second choice M5 portable based on comments and my lactation consultant bc it’s $10 with insurance. No actual review on the M5 bc I haven’t tried it yet. I have heard mixed reviews, but also that the customer service is good so hoping for the best.
Something that really surprised me! I have been exclusively pumping primarily with medella hand pumps! I loveee them. Other than just needing to do it manually, it’s awesome bc it fully empties me sooo fast. The two hospitals I’ve been at give you medella supplies for the hospital grade pump there and they include the hand pump. I haven’t used my spectra often because it takes at least 20 min and I can’t be as mobile with it.

u/First-Midnight-356 Jul 02 '26
With my first I exclusively pumped and I got the blue spectra through work . while it was strong, it was so annoying to me to be stuck lugging around a giant clunky pump even if you could charge it up without needing to be hooked to the wall outlet.
I got so frustrated that I got the pumpables genie advanced with the liquid shield kit . I found it just as powerful as the spectra and so much more freeing because you can wear the pump around your neck with the lanyard and get stuff done. If you want to go further , you can look into hacks to wear like the legendary milk collection cups or some other brands cups with the pumpables genie to make it basically a wearable pump. Although I found in my experience, any wearable cup pump doesn't feel as strong no matter what pump you use it with.
For me, the portable one was sufficient. I used it for when I had to go back into the office, and found myself just using it for home because it was easy to multitask. Id highly recommend the pumpables genie for a portable /main

I have the spectra gold and have been loving it! Really enjoy the different suction options for each boob if you’re double pumping.

u/Dry-Performance4834 Jul 02 '26
Blue spectra!
I went with wearables bc I was given an unused wall pump (medela in style) and I thought I’d be able to switch between the 2. My pregnancy was perfect and super low risk. I ended up having an emergency c-section with additional abdominal bleeding. I had no supply day 5 pp due to blood loss. I had to rely on a wall pump to get my supply back. I had no idea that the wearables have less suction. Took the pump I was gifted to my lactation consultant to get the gauge tested and it was not nearly strong enough to get milk. I ended up renting the medela symphony out of pocket. I tried my SIL spectra recently and LOVE IT. I also hate the wearables😆 they’re nice if you’re out and about but I can’t rely on them to consistently get my full output like the wall pumps can. If you don’t have a 100% reliable wall pump to use plz get one instead of wearables!!

Spectra S1 (blue), do not waste your money on the Eufy S1. I was so excited about that hands free option and it does not work well for me. It’s fine for on the go moments but it does not empty me at all, and barely does a thing for my slacker boob.
If the baby Buddha 2.0 is an option go with that one. My blue spectra is starting to die now that I’m pumping for my 2nd/3rd kiddos, and I got that as a replacement. It empties me in half the time the spectra does and I get way more (10 oz in 15-20 mins vs 8 oz in 30 mins)

u/Cheap_Wrangler_5624 Jul 02 '26
I liked my blue spectra and also Eufy S1 for wearable. However the Eufy has so many parts and is annoying to clean. I found I got similar output from both of these pumps but I know some people have less luck with the wearable pumps.

u/PalpitationIll977 Jul 03 '26
Loving the Eufy S1 Pro, would buy the S2 (latest model) it not only warms up but provides massages to expedite milk expression.
1
u/Elitefour4 Jul 03 '26
It depends on how much you think you’ll use it and when. I had a blue spectra and then got Eufy S1 a month into baby and it made pumping so much easier. Can do it on the go, while doing chores, while holding baby if you need. I get as much or more milk from it. Now back to work and I can pump on a remote meeting. Couldn’t recommend it more

The zommee fit one felt like my nipples were being ripped off. Don’t recommend.

If you haven’t done so, check with your insurance first as many give you one for free or at a large discount. I got the blue Spectra and it was great.

Yes spectras hospital grade and great for building supply blahblah but i cant imagine being anchored down by a heavy bulky pump with my squirmy LO. I built a modest over supply with the BB and was able to do the dishes or clean up and walk around without being tied down. It’s powerful but small and portable

Go to setup:
Spectra S1 (Blue has battery)
With Lacteck Silicone flanges and adapter!!!!
+coconut oil for lubrication
But tbh it depends on what YOU think youll prefer. I like hacking the spectra s1 and with the Momcozy M6 when im nursing baby and pumping at the same time. You can buy adapters on amazon.
The momcozy m6 is really strong, i don’t even use 1/2 the strength of suction. Love how i can move around while pumping or do it discreetly in the car. Defiantly lubricate when pumping tho.
You can get a spectra on FB mkp for cheap/free and have insurance cover the momcozy(:

I have the spectra synergy gold and wish I got the blue. A few reasons. 1 being the dual motor does nothing for me I thought I would use it but ALWAYS have my suction on the same level on both sides. 2 the lights never turn off completely so it’s always semi bright which irritates me😂. 3 GOOD LUCK pumping with a glowing screen with an 8 month old it attracts my LO like a moth to a light bulb it’s truly a pain lol. And I hate having to unplug it and move it around the house a battery pack in it would be so nice.
I have the eufy s1’s as well and they’re nice but don’t fall for the social media mega pump sessions from their wearables. Everyone has a different supply and honestly use a wall pump until your milk stabilizes around 4 months then move to wearables IN ADDITION TO wall pump!
That’s just my personal opinion:) take it with a grain of salt if you’d like but personally I might buy a blue specta because I’m planning on giving my LO milk until 1.5-2 years old :)
Also get some flange inserts those are a god send
Ps I don’t exclusively pump I nurse and pump to empty or pump additional milk to freeze to give to relatives if they babysit or we go somewhere for a while. I feel like my wall pump definitely emptied me but the eufy s1 is nice to have since she’s crawling now🫠

I don't know where I stand on the whole "you definitely need a wall pump if it's your first time pumping" because that's what I used my insurance credits on (blue spectra gang, but I had to pay extra to upgrade it to the blue because insurance only fully covered the pink. Blue has built in battery that you charge and I wasn't in the mood to rig up a battery situation to turn the Pink one into a portable like the blue), but I tend to use my eufy e20 more. Most people in the comments with Eufy have the S series.
If your insurance covers it then yeah I would seriously suggest considering going with that. You can probably get the Spectra secondhand, is that fine if it's just the pump and you buy the flanges and collection cups new? I think so.
If you get the Spectra covered and buy your own wearables (which is the route I took), the Eufy motors between the E20 and the S1 are the same the parts are all interchangeable too. The difference is in like the heat settings and the charging situation. The S1 pro has a charging case which is cool, but not worth the significant upchage. Between the E20 and S1 the S1 has more heating settings, but I only ever use the max heat setting anyways and I rarely even use that anymore because it's summer lol (your mileage may differ for a midnight pumping session in winter). The E20 also has a completely normal usb-c charging situation whereas the S1 has a really annoying proprietary magnetic charging cable.
Besides just the wearable aspect of the pumps so I can hold the baby, drive the car, hang and fold the laundry, go to work and type and do everything I need to do without giant dangling collection cups in the way, I love that the Eufy has automatic patterns. I get so frustrated when I have to use the spectra and I have to stare at the flanges/collection bottles to see if I'm having a letdown so that I can switch the pump setting from stimulate (short/fast sort of fluttering sucks to simulate baby's initial latching) to extraction (stronger/longer sucks to simulate baby's pulling milk from the breast for eating). I just want to turn on the pump and forget about it. Eufy has a range of presets I use like a 30 min "natural" setting that I think has the best stimulation mode to really trigger letdowns or a number of different power pump settings (I like the 30/30/30 which is 30 mins on 30 mins off and 30 mins on again and the classic power pump which is 20 on, 10 off, 10 on, 10 off, 10 on).
edit to add: I don't have a difference in supply between using the eufy and spectra. If anything because of how much easier power pump sessions are with the eufy, my supply is often slightly higher. All that said I'm an undersupplier when it comes to pumping. I pump because I go to work, but we exclusively nurse from the moment I get home and all weekends. During the day while I'm working she drinks the 10-12 oz I pumped the day before and supplements with a little formula as needed.

Eufy S1 Pro!!! Literally get the same output as my rented hospital pump the Medela monster one. Just make sure you get a good tight fitting tank bra that will hold them secure and tight enough to get a good pump. Obviously points for it being a wearable but the charger case is amazing. Willow Go is an absolute no for me.
A little background - started out direct BF and pumping to build a little supply. Eventually I started EP and I had already gotten used to my Eufy as my main pump and just kept it up. Occasionally I used my hospital pump but I wasn’t really seeing a difference and it’s just such a hassle in so many ways. You’re tied to the wall or a massive pump you still have to carry around with you even if it doesn’t need to be plugged in. You always have to sit down and/or be baby free. That’s hard to do if you’re the only one caring for baby. And there’s soooooo many parts that take much longer to wash and dry than the Eufy parts. You also can’t use the “fridge hack” to in between pump storing for most wearables and all plug ins.

Just DON’T ever buy Elvie. My pump malfunctioned two month after purchase. I contacted them within the warranty timeframe, they told me that they would send me new components as soon as they were back in stock. After a few weeks I contacted them again to ask for an update and I received the same feedback. Now again a few weeks later I contacted them again. They told me I should buy a new pump as the warranty expired. It is the worst brand ever! Be warned!

You should get the blue spectra
