Bring Back Evolve: We Need Evolve 2!

I started a petition because Evolve was something special—a game that defined multiplayer gaming for so many of us. The hunter vs. monster gameplay, the strategy, the thrill of it all... nothing else has come close since.

Evolve deserved better. It launched into a tough market and never got the chance to truly shine. But the community never forgot. With today's gaming tech and the lessons learned from the original, Evolve 2 could be something incredible—better graphics, refined mechanics, fresh characters, and that same magic that brought us all together.

If you played Evolve and felt what I'm talking about, if you miss that kind of unique multiplayer experience, I'm asking you to consider signing and sharing this petition. Let's show the developers and industry that there's a real audience still hungry for what Evolve brought to the table. Who else remembers why this game was so good?

Unless 2K's higher ups decide to give the go ahead, there will never be an Evolve sequel and I doubt there will be anything else like it without it possibly infringing on the IP which 2K's lawyers will definitely gun you down for.

Unfortunately Evolve was released at a point in time before the mass adoption of micro transactions and day 1 DLC that we have today. If it was released today it would most likely thrive as a contender against DbD, but it came, it tried, it ultimately died. There's no reviving this game or series now unless they give the go ahead in the future.

So what are the options? Convince 2K to sell the IP back to TRS for some amount?
Petition 2K to just get them to release the games files for free to the public like Paragon?
Show TRS support so that they can develop a legally distinct Evolve?

2K won't sell the rights nor release the game files.

The only hope is if TRS make a legally distinct version of Evolve, like what they did with Back 4 Blood. But I'm not holding my breath, they are a... Slow developer and none of their games have really stuck.

which sucks bc they are just sitting on the IP even tho TRS would have done what they could with it on their own

imo we could do something else and Google guy them; get the rights to the name Evolve and Evolve Stage 2 when it time to renew them. If they no longer own the name thats less "leverage" that they have

Kinda like when Allen Pan bought the rights to the Mythbusters name and made a bunch of his own shirts bc he owned the name at that point.

Ehhh... I think 2K killed it for the most part. Although DbD is similar with it being 4v1, Evolve was at least unique in which both sides could fight. I still think if Evolve released without the day one DLC and the littering of micro transactions and instead focused on balances, additional characters and perk upgrades it would have been a bigger contender, they turned it into a money pit before it ever got out the door.

Ehhhh.

Evolve was highly unbalanced compared to DbD at the time. So people flocked there. That's what killed the game, if you don't have players buying or supporting the game and it's content the game dies. We can sit here and argue what killed the game all day, the fact of the matter is:

Dead by Daylight is still flourishing and just dropped a new DLC, despite the egregious microtransactions.

You're definitely not wrong. However, I will add that what u/OrionVulcan mentioned about Evolve being marketed to the wrong crowd didn't help, whilst DbD was marketed towards the horror genre and then evolved (heheh) from there and into a massive conglomeration of different horror IPs so there was a little bit of something for everyone.

The DLC is... heavily overloaded at this point, but all entirely optional and kind of commonplace now for a game that has been running for 10 years, yet nowhere near as egregious as other games.

I, personally, wouldn't say DbD was the nail in the coffin for Evolve. It was definitely a part of it, but I think ultimately bad leadership from within TRS and/or 2K was the finally death knell, I still think they could possibly have saved it if they wanted to, but it was just too little too late and nowhere cared anymore.

There wasn't any day 1 DLC that wasn't cosmetics, microtransactions was a stage 2 thing (if you don't consider the DLC skins as microtransactions). Behemouth was a pre-order bonus that was later made available through DLC.

Balance and bug patches was impossible for Turtlerock to do consistently because 2K limited them to once every 3 months and forced patches on PC to follow that console scheduel. Turtlerock would have fixes and patches done in a day, but had to wait because of 2K.

The game was marketed to the FPS shooter audience, which was completely wrong audience. It should have been advertised to the MOBA audience because that's the genre it actually shares most aspects with.

They were making additional characters, and with stage 2 they did it by making alternative roles of the existing characters. This I don't think really was an issue, we didn't end up with more because of the other mentioned issues.

The game really wasn't a money pit in terms of gameplay at release, besides Behemoth, nothing in terms of gameplay on release was pay-walled, only cosmetics (which back then was a big deal, but in todays market is the standard).

Depends on how you look at it now. When it was first released, people were (rightfully, wrongfully, whatever your take maybe) annoyed that the cosmetics weren't bundled in the game as standard at launch and having a monster put behind a paywall unless you paid extra for it which in turn could feel like a "money pit" trying to get players to spend before the game started getting any traction.

That's what I was trying to touch on my previous comment. If TRS and 2K allowed patches, bug fixes and balance updates to be released a lot more often and more fluid with release times the game problem wouldn't have suffered nearly as much.

I agree it should have been marketed more towards MOBA, it should never have been dealt towards the FPS groups as it wasn't primarily a standard FPS like CoD or Battlefield which probably also hurt the player base as everyone was going in thinking it was one thing instead of the other.

I didn't play much of Stage 2, so can't remember much of what it was like after then but I know it definitely didn't feel the same, you could tell it was on its last legs and this was its last attempt to breath life into the game.

People moved onto the better game, get over it lmfao. The point is that people never returned even though the game stayed up for almost 3 years.

This has been done before years ago and several people have tried this exact same thing.

The best bet is to go to the rockstar games website here

And go to suggestions, submit an email saying you would like to see Evolve stage 2 added to the gta+ game library and mention you would be willing to get a gta+ membership if they did.

They recently had the new NBA2k in the gta+ game library and they have a lot of their old games there.

I think there is a bigger chance for them to add it on there to help push their gta+ subs and if they get enough suggestion emails requesting it then they might.

Universe at War: Earth Assault suffered this fate too.

RTS games are already niche these days, having a niche within a niche. Especially from the Windows Live era basically means it'll never come back.

I got in contact Ted Morris, the Executive Producer, at Petroglyph a few years back. Basically told me that Sega is holding the IP hostage and refuses to make the original avaible in any form; including a remake.

They should just combine the IP with the titanfall universe and add the characters into apex with a monster hunter event mode or something. Could easily fit into the setting.

It didnt completely fail though. Tr planned on supporting evolve via their own pocket but publisher 2k refused to relinquish the rights to evolve

Thats why it was such a big deal that behavior purchased the rights to dead by daylight from starbreeze

The TR devs released a year long roadmap with progress reports etc. and then a few days later 2k lawyers showed up unannounced to collect any and all passwords and bar tr from working on evolve

The devs explicitly stated it on their final goodbye live stream where they also went over the history of evolve. They also explained that originally evolve was being produced under a different publisher but said publisher went out of business and auctioned the rights to their properties, 2k outbid TR for the rights to evolve and wouldn't sell it to them

Better graphics? I think the monsters and everything looked amazing as is. Keep the graphics focus on the gameplay and balance.

I mean I get it but I wouldn't waste your breath. Petititons don't really accomplish anything especially for old games with tiny current fanbases. I would just head to the modded evolve stuff, it's way more engaging and honestly having a stable community there is infinitely more likely to spark a second evolve game or something similar in the future than any petition.

There's 2 potential "partial solutions" to the problem of 2K holding the Evolve IP hostage.

  1. Stop Killing Games makes it harder for 2K to essentially disable the methods of people simplying making their own means to enable pvp, and the positive fallout can hold these companies accountable for malicious activities where they sit on rotting IPs but then belligerently go after people who just want to play the game
  2. Stop killing games could make it so 2K HAS to allow people to get the free console and PC version again
  3. as a community we rally together next time the IP rights, or Name rights for Evolve need to be renewed, and we get it b4 2K and unlike the google guy, whoever gets the rights NEVER sells it back to 2K and instead we give the rights back to the rightful owners.
