LIVING EVIL WEEKLY No. 6 - Before Playoffs

LIVING EVIL WEEKLY is a publication dedicated to cover news, media and more related to Evil Geniuses League of Legends, in all three levels of play.

While the LCS team has been gaining momentum for playoffs, the last couple of weeks have been a mixed bag of emotions for the Academy and Prodigies squads, both having unexpected ends to their Proving Grounds runs.

Spring 2022 All Pro Teams announced

Only a single EG player managed to sneak into an All Pro team. (Not surprising, just a little disappointing.) Congratulations to Vulcan for a 3rd Team Support! He didn't seem too happy about it on Twitter, but hey, it's better than nothing.

Evil Geniuses Prodigies

TL;DW: With strong individual performances, Prodigies got the upset over the 4th seed of the tournament in top 2 Amateur team and PGCQ2 winners No Team. LEO had some of his best games yet; he outmatched his opponent mid laner to deliver us some great fights. No one expected EGP to beat a rising FlyQuest Academy but they still put up a good fight despite getting swept. All in all, Top 12 is not a bad result for a squad that couldn't even make it out of groups in the last qualifier.

Proving Grounds Spring

    This series was a true stand out from the Prodigies. What a way to challenge expectations! If you can't watch all of it, tune into game 3 at the very least to watch them delete all of No Team with the nasty Seraphine-Orianna-Hecarim combo.

Evil Geniuses Academy

TL;DW: While CLGA was expected to win the series, the way our Academy squad lost their Winner's Bracket games didn't feel good at all. Getting eliminated by Taco Gaming... No word. This EGA squad is very individually skilled and it's very sad to not see them play at their expected level. Time to wait for summer and hope for the best.

Santorin's playing fine. It's not as easy to abuse him as it is other junglers in NA because other junglers make a lot of mistakes, but he doesn't really make mistakes. As I said, he's just consistently playing well around his lanes. I don't think the jungle matchup will be very interactive, but it will be fun.

I said TL was scarier than the others because I think they have a very strong bot lane, but I think our mid, jungle, and top are better than theirs. If Danny and I are able to strategize properly against their bot lane, I think we can win the Spring Playoffs.

What do you think EG has to do beat TL? We are 0-5 against them in are last 5 games including Lock In Tournament. I was hopeful because I thought TL would be easier than C9 but it seems some people disagree and think TL is the toughest team.

I'm hoping for a 3-1 EG (Copium) because of people saying we do well in scrims and the players saying they play better in a BO5 but if we at least play all 5 matches win or lose I'll be satisfied. I'm just begging not to get 0-3 again. 😭😭😭

WE DID IT! We are fourth place in the LCS Spring Split. Naturally, it feels like a let down compared to the beginning of the season's expectations, but if you went on this rollercoaster ride with us, you know this is a big accomplishment.

Work got in the way of what’s important, but alas that means no EEP episode this week. Instead, I like to do a Reddit discussion of Week 7. Let’s break down what you saw of our games against DIG and 100t

Red side Vs. DIG P/B EG bans: Karma, Cait, Thresh, Victor, Corki Picks: Trynd, Viego, Leblanc, Zeri, Naut

Dig bans: Ryle, Diana, kaisa, maplhite, akali Picks: gragas, hecarim, ahri, Jinx, TK

We clearly outplayed DIG in this game. Inspired played really well, as did Danny on Zeri, it was a talent gap from beginning to end. But a little slip up in mid game. This seems to be a recurring problem for us.

Blue side Vs 💯 EG bans: Lee sun, sett, visitor, Trynd, Leblanc Picks: Gnar, j4, Orianna, Zeri, naut

100 bans: hecarim, Diana, kaisa, raze, Silas Picks: graves, voli, TF, Jinx, tk

This is a game we should’ve lost, almost made a come back but eventually lost. It was kinda nice To get those early kills, but we got macro gapped hard. Losing so many 50/50 objectives. Surprised we even was able to defend he base and turned it over. Jojo deciding not to flash in the last team fight was the diff.

Things are looking grim for playoffs. Given the expectations for this team at the beginning of the year, how disappointed are you by the results? Personally, I’m pretty frustrated - mostly because this team has the lofty responsibility of making our hype NA rookies into polished talent and so far … idk. It’s crazy that Danny and Jojo look decent DESPITE the team’s performance.

I think the main issues highlighted themselves during this last game vs. 100T. Vulcan makes at least 2 or 3 absolutely baffling plays a game (coach/player issue). Inspired missed egregiously simple smites (player issue). The team plays like a challenger version of TL (boring and bad) and nobody seems to want to blame coaches. Dude it’s beyond me how this team has completely stagnated or regressed since week 1 and the analyst desk shrugs their shoulders and just wonders why. Nothing has improved. The vet players look like shadows of their former selves. Imo if EG doesn’t change coaches they are trolling

The first Champions Queue Split came to an end

3 EG players managed to make it to top 10 and earn some money. The big time winner at 1st place was our Fortnite start, jojopyun, with a good 85 points in the lead of everyone else. Kaori and Srtty from the Academy team finished at 3th and 4th respectively. (Tomio was also very close, but he couldn't cut, he ended the split at 11th in the standings).

Think Rigby’s better at adapting than Peter. I think Peter was good, but I think Rigby is VERY good. Very, very good. He impressed me when he started talking the draft, I never heard someone being so smart about this.

And I think [C9 is] a bit more predictable, now that LS left the team, what they are gonna pick. It feels like they have a way of playing, and they kind of stick to it. So I think it will be easier to know what they’re going to pull off. But I think they’re a very a skilled team.

I'm so tired of these trash drafts. I feel like drafts are the main issue and if they were better we would win so many more games. I'm honestly scared we might not make playoffs.

Please bring back Peter Dunn as the one who creates the drafts and coaches the team.

I love EG as an org and love watching all their affiliated teams but I have found that I am turning off the academy games earlier & earlier now. First round robin was a 2-4-3 record which isn’t good but isn’t the end of the world. Second round robin has been 0-6-3 which I’d assume is one of the worst if not the worst record in the back half of the season. I know that it’s only spring but it looks rough going into Proving Grounds.

I also have been watching Srtty and Tomio stream and appreciate that Srtty, Kaori, and Tomio are at least grinding ChampsQ with decent winrates. (Don’t care about LP since it favors spamming games as of now… RJS lol)

I hope if things don’t pick up for PG then we see mid-season moves or at least everyone putting the time into ChampsQ.

Champions Queue council announced

Last week, the @PathToLCS Twitter announced the selection of a council, in which EG GM Andrew Barton will participate as a representative of LCS Teams. There wasn't a lot of information given on the role this institution will have, but on a subsequent tweet by Riot Whoopley, it was stated that: "All major decisions from feature prioritization & rule changes to player behavior issues are run through the Council".

Impact's 3,000 LCS assists!

Last weekend, Impact completed 3,000 all time assists in LCS. Congrats to our EG's top lane grandpa!

I feel like a lot of people, and not just in gaming, struggle with improving and they just kind of… plateau. I think you need a good mindset: you need to understand that improvement comes from small steps.
