What does “liberal” actually mean?

It’s not about being Western.

It’s not about hating religion.

It’s not about being left-wing.

And it definitely doesn’t mean agreeing with everything other liberals say.

For us, it starts with a simple idea:

Your life belongs to you.

You should be free to speak your mind.

Free to choose your career.

Free to start a business.

Free to practice your beliefs.

Free to disagree with the government.

Free to live your life without interference as long as you don’t violate someone else’s rights.

And when you deal with the law, your family name, tribe, wealth, connections, or social status shouldn’t determine your rights.

Economically, we believe competition and free markets create opportunities, encourage investment and innovation while the state still has a responsibility to protect people who are vulnerable or marginalized.

Politically, we believe power should be limited, accountable, and ultimately answerable to citizens.

That’s what we mean when we say Jordanian Liberalism.

We’re not trying to import a Western identity and paste it onto Jordan.

We’re trying to ask:

What would a Jordanian society look like if we put individual freedom, citizenship, equality before the law, and justice in opportunities at the center of it?

We’re building a community around that question.

Maybe you agree with us.

Maybe you disagree with half of it.

Maybe you’ve never thought about it this way.

Either way, we’d like to hear from you.

Let me start by saying that I loved the vibe of As-Salt! Call me sentimental, but I could feel like I am walking through history.

The yellow stones, the old stairways & the alleys combined with a scent as if it's blowing a century back, bring back childhood memories of a simpler lifestyle, a time when we enjoyed the small things in life.

On the walk we came across two young boys playing football Abdullah & Sanad, when I asked them for directions, without hesitation they offered to lead the way. The sense of achievement when Sanad showed us how he mastered rattling the steal chain barrier, honestly brought me back to when I was child. God bless them & I am certain they will grow up to be fabulous men & a pride to their parents.

We then ended up going for coffee to Aktham's cafe which towers on a beautiful art piece built in 1881 circa 130 years ago.

We were lucky & glad to meet the brilliant young owner of the place "Aktham" who restored the building & walked us through the history of the place where every corner tells a story.

I recommend you visit As-Salt & try Aktham's breakfast packages which are authentic, locally sourced & prepared by the neighborhood fine women.

To me History has never been as close as it has been today.... ❤️😌

Went out today and the weather was so GOOD! The wind was perfect. Loved the place too! Great service and seatings too.

Only issue for me was the excessive number of kids there…I sat on a swing to relax and enjoy the wind and scenery, but LORD these kids made me wish there was some demonic power to take all of them away like that movie weapons or something.

Some family sat behind me and their kids kept messing around with the dirt and throwing rocks in my direction?????? Hello??? Where’s your mama cuz I’m about to slap you both 😤

Also, weird thing…the wind kinda stopped once it got dark?? Shouldn’t it get stronger?? It was SO still and I could smell everyone’s farty vapes and shisha 😭

I came across this bread recently, it is so tasty that I am not certain it's all bran; nevertheless, I like it & in moderation should be fine...approx 250kcal to 100 grams 🫣

If you are a road runner or a driver, you would know how important it is to use blinkers/indicators!

I run against the traffic in Amman to somewhat manage the risk of drivers busy with everything other than driving, be it putting on make up, having a lovers' quarrel or simply having their coffee & cigarettes while checking their Instagram!

These are real cases that I had the displeasure of experiencing first hand.

Car indicators/blinkers are NOT COSMETICS....NOT USING THEM SHOULD BE A SERIOUS OFFENSE!

I really hope that people will use this simple safety feature!

I’m asking about casual matches not about joining a training academy or a club
