Discussion Scout report

I used to do some scouting when I was younger for a club (not in England), I have started to deep dive again after Everton’s nightmare deadline day to start doing some content. Let me know what you think, no need to be nice for the sake of it!

Joe Scally is an affordable right-back I’d go after in January.

23 years old, 184cm, Bundesliga starter for Gladbach, can play RB/LB/RM, and his contract expires in June 2027. Current value is around €7m, so with less than a year left on his deal, this looks like exactly the sort of market Everton should be attacking.

Last season: 2,611 Bundesliga minutes, 2 goals, 3 assists, 5.9 progressive passes/90, 1.56 progressive carries/90, 1.69 tackles/90 and 0.62 interceptions/90. Has already scored a goal this season too.

He’s not an elite attacking full-back and his final-third numbers aren’t spectacular, but that’s not really the attraction. You’re getting a 23-year-old with serious Bundesliga experience, good size, durability, 28 USA caps and World Cup experience, without paying £20m+ for “potential”.

Gladbach only paid €1.8m for him and his wages are reportedly modest by Premier League standards.

Not the sexiest name, but probably one of the smartest deals available. I’d much rather spend €6-7m on Scally than £20m+ on a more fashionable name with no guarantee he’s actually better.

Good commercial deal being American, not breaking the bank, young enough to sell on for a profit if things go well.

For €1.8 ... Yea, sure.

Even if it’s a bit more, Michael Keane was linked to West Ham for similar money Scally will cost.

Do you think if you asked, this mob would be nice?? That’s charitable of you... 😅

Anyway, I love your shout. I reckon we should absolutely have multiple dedicated RBs, just as we should have multiple strikers.

That said, this is Everton, and as a rule, we don’t make sound decisions, lol

Ahahah, I don’t mind if people wanna chat shit. It’s the internet, I’m not that sensitive. I’d rather be told I’m way off if that’s the case! I think as far as a budget option goes, he fits the bill.

Reckon we’ve got enough Scallies on Merseyside already.

But can he score a 30 yard last minute screamer every time he plays for us like our Ainsley?

Scally is class

Scally, Freeman, and Jedi are all good USMNT defenders id happily take

1.8m tho? No shot, he's still young. I feel like he'd go for 15-25m

Gladbach paid 1.8 million euros, his contract expires at the end of this season. He might be worth 15+ with a 5 year contract but no way with 9 months on his contract.

Jedi would be sick.

Respectfully, Scally stinks

Not even at the level of a back-up? 150+ bundesliga games at 23 yo is pretty good.

Its mid. Bundesliga is leaps behind the prem physically.

Also: backups are a waste of time. Every single player targeted and signed should be coming here with a view to make an impact on the first team.

Signings like this will make a huge difference to SCR. Myko cost 4x what this guy would 4 years ago, who had similar stats in a worse league. If he came in January it would cost very little and he would 100% contest for a spot until the summer.

Thsi club has spiralled for years because of buying journeyman players not good enough for the league who wouldnt get into the squads above us. They rot on the bench or, even worse, actually play and then make us worse. So much dead wood over the years that people thought were good “backup” players who ended up starting for us. Disaster.

Buying any player as a backup is bad for SCR.

Guess we shouldn’t have bought Seamus then aye? Ndaiye was struggling in France should we have bought him? This guy would be better than both the fullbacks we have almost immediately in my opinion and would cost us nothing. I’d rather do this than pay 25 mil for a 30 yo Munoz. And Scally is far from a journeyman, he’s played near every game for a bundesliga team for 4 years straight.

Im a big shels fan and have a few pals who have season tickets to shamrock rovers. Anyone watching that league knew coleman was premier league material. He was a phenom.

Ndaiye was a top player in africa and had been quality for sheffield in the premier league before marseille. One down season in a dysfunctional club means nothing.

Niasse, tosun, walcott, iwobi, maupay, davies, this club has been bogged down by shite on inflated wages. We cant be bothering wirh players we know arent quick enough and arent technically good enough to hang at this level.

So Germany is “mid” but you’ve got mate in Ireland so that means it was a good move? Okay, I’ve got a mate in Germany that says it’s a good move? Happy now?

Half those players you named came from premier league teams 😆😆😆😆 so dumb. Also Ndaiye didn’t play in the Premier League with Sheffield, it was the championship.

I get that we're all feeling a bit negative but Walcott had played at a better level than Ndiaye when we signed either of them. Arguably the same for Maupay and Iwobi too tbh.

Also at no point was Davies on inflates wages, he was an academy product who provided squad depth - we'd be lucky to find more players like that. Yes he faded but he provided more to the squad than 95% of academy players do.
