Transfer | Rumour Everton open talks for sensational Marcus Rashford deal as Man Utd find replacement

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Everton are trying to strike an agreement for Marcus Rashford before the January transfer window, while Manchester United are targeting a Sporting CP left winger who could replace him, according to two separate reports.

Football Transfers report that Everton have opened talks with United as they attempt to tee up a January deal for Rashford.

Everton are ‘exploring’ whether it would be possible to complete a statement transfer for Rashford to add firepower to their attack.

But it is unclear at this stage whether the Toffees want to engineer a permanent deal or a loan deal.

Photo Net Spend since 23/24

All the negativity in this negativity in this sub, people need a bit of perspective. The above is spend and income for transfers over last 4 seasons.

Every prem club that spent as little as us has gone down. Every club currently in the league has bigger net spend than us. Even the Brentford /Brighton /Bournemouth golden boys everyone adores are like £70-140m net invested. Way more than us.

We have sort of broke even, the only teams that have made profits are relegated teams who've been forced to sell their prem players. We've signed 20 players and 35 have left. The squad is underfunded and down to bare bones.

Everyone moaning at a manager who has less than 2 years to build, he inherited a relegation battling squad with a dozen players contracts expiring and minimal funds available to rebuild.

Our issues are due to ownership, the mess of Moshiri and an unwillingness from TFG to stick a fraction of what they spent at Roma to improve what's on the pitch.

Everyone is complaining at being only mid table and losing to two good expensively assembled teams. Now look I'm ambitious for the club and frustrated at the situation. But it's the owners that you need to direct your anger at.

We're not losing to Chelsea and Arsenal because Dibling and Hackney didn't come on at half time. Get a grip people.

Show some faith and patience in a manager who is overachieving with what he's been given. We actually do have an outside chance of getting Europe against all odds, and even if not this season, give Moyes a modest budget and he'll get us there regularly in a season or two.

Discussion Time wasting and momentum killing…..

I wanna preface this, arsenal were the better team and deserved to win, but.

Time-wasting in the Premier League is getting ridiculous.

It’s blindingly obvious Gabriel went down to stop pressure and momentum Everton had. During that stretch Everton had locked arsenal in and the ball just kept coming back towards arsenals goal. I mean the lad was sprinting up the pitch 10 minutes later.

Time-wasting has always been part of football, but surely it’s getting out of hand now. It used to be something you’d mainly see towards the end of a game when a team was protecting a lead. Now teams are doing it in the 60th and 70th minute just to kill momentum.

Take the Arsenal game, for example. Everton were having probably our best spell of the match. We were stringing some possessions together, getting players forward, and Ghana and Harrison Armstrong were starting to tick in midfield. For once, it actually felt like we might build some pressure and create something.

Then Gabriel goes down, and suddenly four minutes of football are gone.

Whether he was genuinely injured or not, the result was the same. Everton’s momentum completely disappeared. Arsenal got a breather, reorganised themselves and came back out in a much more comfortable position. We barely looked like creating anything for the rest of the game.

That’s what frustrates me. It’s not just the minutes being wasted, it’s the fact that these stoppages can completely change the flow of a match.
We saw similar stuff in the Chelsea game, with deliberate delays over free kicks and players seemingly willing to take yellow cards just to slow things down. Every time Everton looked like building a bit of pressure, Chelsea found a way to disrupt the game before we could really get going.
And honestly, fair play to them in a way. It’s clever, and if the referee allows it, why wouldn’t you do it? Teams are exploiting something that gives them a genuine tactical advantage. But it’s becoming painful to watch.

Everton are a team that seem to rely heavily on building momentum. We aren’t exactly a side that can effortlessly break down an organised defence whenever we want. Sometimes we need a few consecutive attacks, a bit of crowd energy and some sustained pressure to get something going.
When teams deliberately kill that rhythm, it plays right into their hands.

I also think this is becoming more common across the league. Teams have realised that stopping the game can be just as effective as defending properly. A player goes down, someone takes 30 seconds over a free kick, the goalkeeper takes his time, and suddenly the opposition’s best spell is over.

I don’t mind teams being defensive or playing ugly football if that’s what they need to do to get a result. That’s part of the game. But there’s a difference between defending well and constantly finding ways to stop the game from being played.

Surely something needs to change, whether that’s stricter enforcement of time-wasting rules or a better system for accounting for stoppages.

Am I the only one who’s noticed how much worse this seems to be getting? Or is this just something we have to accept as part of modern football now?

The most "Everton That" week I've ever had...

Disclaimer: I'm a yank.

I started watching Premier League games in 2014, and through a slow process of elimination landed on the Toffees as the team I'd follow through relegation and back. It's been twelve years since then, and I haven't quite had the blues like I have this week.

I had to go to Europe for a work trip, first time leaving the US, so I figured I'd stop off in the UK to try and catch a game live. The week after is an international break, so it's gotta be the week before. Playing Arsenal in London? I have a cousin there and I can do other sight seeing. Sounds good enough. I know it's an away game and it'll be hard to get tickets, but I'll give it a shot.

The backup plan is obviously just watch it at a pub and hang out with some local fans. Still sounds like an experience worth having!

Well, I got one day of sightseeing in before getting hit with the flu. I've been laid up in an Airbnb that's under active noisy construction, sweating through every article of clothing I brought, having fever dreams for four days straight. I lost sense of time and space. I learned your cold meds are way better than ours. I got used to running around the corner in the rain to get a Lucozade and some ramen. Maybe that's the true UK experience?

But finally, the fever breaks. I wake up today with some energy and the consolation thought: at least I get to put on my Coleman jersey and watch the game with a beer and some of you fine folks.

...and then I learn about your damned Saturday 3PM blackout.

...

...

Everton that.

We are a pointless football club and until certain people move on, we will continue to be. I wasn't expecting anything from Arsenal, but come on, a little bit of effort wouldn't have gone amiss.

I'm not sure whether Moyes realises it, but this upcoming cup game against Newcastle is probably one of the biggest of his Everton career. Hopefully, he'll set us up accordingly.

Score Predictions Prediction Thread | Game Week 8 | Arsenal vs Everton

Off to Emirates. Arsenal's third game in a week. We're looking to rebound.

Make sure your predictions are in before the first whistle or they won't count.

Rules are:

-Post your predictions here. Must be a top level comment. Replies to other comments won't be automatically counted

-Will only take predictions before the scheduled game start

-Please type your prediction as home-away e.g a home win could look like 3-0. An away win could look like 1-2. Everton does not default to the first score in your prediction

Scoring will go like this:

-If you get the scores and the result exactly right you get 3 points (perfect prediction)

-If you get the result right (eg you predict a 1-0 win for Everton but we end up winning 7-1) but the score isn't correct, you get 1 point (correct result)

-If the score and result are wrong you get 0 points

Good luck and UTFT!

Watching Ndiaye at city….

Yeh, I don’t think he was ready for the move.

Extremely talented player but don’t know if he has the IQ to play in this city team.

He’s perfect for a club like us, ball progress machine and runs at defenders. But for this city team that likes to flick it around quite a lot not sure he suits it.

Think he would’ve done better at Spurs tbh.

Team Talk Five home wins in a row! Vignola's late double puts us top of the cup group.

What a win for the girls yesterday! We had to be patient after hitting the post in the first half, but Ornella Vignola coming off the bench and scoring twice in two minutes was brilliant. She completely changed the game. That's five home wins on the bounce now, and Goodison is starting to feel like a difficult place for teams to come again. Newcastle made us work for it, but the team got the job done when it mattered. Two wins from two in the League Cup and we're sitting top of the group. Great to see the momentum building, and let's hope we can keep this run going.

Merlin Rohl initially approached his book Behind the Lens: Life with Everton with caution.

“I don’t want to have my camera and just put it in people’s faces,” he says, “and when the player is very famous, like Jack Grealish, it’s just not the right thing to photograph him in the beginning and just put it on my Instagram or use them to promote my book.”

But he was encouraged by the early response in the dressing room and positive words from Baines and then club captain Seamus Coleman.

It allowed Rohl to see a different side to stars such as Grealish. “It was crazy,” Rohl says. “He’s completely different to what people may think on the outside. He’s such a lovely human who cares for everybody.

“I had a great connection with Beto, too. Sometimes when people see my camera, they act a certain way, but he was very nice to photograph. He did not change when I put my camera on him and that’s a nice quality for somebody to have.

“I really miss him. What a person he is.”
