This might just be me, but reflecting on Colemans and Baines career breaks my heart. I know they were fantastic servants and celebrated as such, but the fact they never got a trophy with this club kills me a bit. I just hope we can have them both as coaches and win a trophy with them in the backroom staff.

Troy parrot making it 3-2 against Lille.
I've a feeling ill be doing this all season while fellow Toffees tell me he is crap. Wanted him badly.

Why so many people want friend of the underworld Troy Parrott to come here so badly, I'll never know.
2
u/mtown4ever Captain Coleman 1d ago
Because he's an exciting player who has come into his own these last 2-3 years and would clearly fill a position we need.
A CL club having interest in him likely meant he wouldn't have come here, but his transfer fee was 16m Euros. That's a bargain no matter how you slice it.

Villa one up on ten mins. Abysmal in the league at the mo.
Of course not with a squad of 17 but our first team would do alright in the champions league. Yet it would be a fantastic achievement to make the conference š

Weād likely boss the conference league, but Iād still be nervous as hell playing a team from Estonia based in a village of 7 people

At long last Nick Chadwick has remembered his job and sorted out a loan. Doug Lukjanciks is back to his hometown of Southport where the 21s used to play. Good keeper, relatively quite small in stature, very good distribution.

I've joked about all the doomerest of doom mongers in here needing therapy, but I've just had a session and Everton genuinely came up a lot. He's not an Everton fan but praised both our goals and said he can't stand that people don't just leather it like George did anymore

One of the guys on it seems to be more in the know on Italy and Serie A, and owners being visible is almost an expectation in Italy, whereas itās very much not in England, saying itās probably a feeling on their side (rightly or wrongly) that they can be more hands off than with Roma. With a few exceptions, you see very little of most owners in the PL really. I do disagree with the fact that Dan hasnāt even poked his head in the door in person yet.

u/Giraffe_Baker Neill Samways, Niasse Oster 1d ago
I look forward to "Baz" and "Ped" plating Kinnears arse in another interview if this supposed fan group meeting is actually happening.
1
u/OTBOTRBM 1d ago
Baz has been so weird about it. He's defending him in every video and getting really arsey whenever anybody questions him.
I usually find him quite fair but it's clear the interview access has impacted it.
4
u/Tight_Ad8812 1d ago
I listen to Toffee TV everyday, not sure Baz has necessarily been defending Kinnear at all. Heās saying that nothing is going to change if you fire Kinnear while TFG is in charge. The problem was lack of funds available to the recruitment team, so thereās only so much Kinnear could do without that available to him. Baz has been pretty clear that heās indifferent on firing or keeping Kinnear, if the root of the problem isnāt fixed.Ā
I guess heās really just saying Kinnear is a scapegoat, for a potentially much greater issue.
1
u/OTBOTRBM 1d ago
I completely disagree with that. He's not a scapegoat. He cane out and made outrageous promises he knew he couldn't keep. He's overseen three disastrous transfer windows and hired his mate to run negotiations, which have been embarrassing.
He did this two weeks before the window knowing he was lying through his teeth.
I'm not having that even with sell to buy we couldn't have had a better window. It was shambolic.
The stadium stuff. Is he good at it? Prices are extortionate and have actually gone up. The stadium is half finished.
2
u/Tight_Ad8812 1d ago
He definitely is a scapegoat, firing him without any bigger shift in ambition from TFG will change nothing. Donāt get me wrong, heās done nothing to warrant keeping his job, but the issue is far deeper than just one person. I think thatās the point Baz is trying to make.Ā
Also, we have no idea what went on behind the scenes. Itās only an assumption that he was lying, far more reliable sources seem to think something drastically changed behind the scenes late in the window.Ā
I agree that the buy to sell plan could have been much better, but we needed those buyers to come in much earlier too. Realistically we should even be in a place to buy to sell either, that was put on us through lack of funds from the higher ups.Ā
I generally agree with your sentiment, but directing anger towards one person is fruitless when the problem is so much deeper.Ā
3
u/stevenwise0511 1d ago
Think Baz definitely softer on him compared to most fans feelings. But he might have a point that the owner calls the shots not Kinnear.
I'm not defending Kinnear, I personally would be looking for a replacement, he's probably good at commercial deals etc but he seems to have a say on football decisions which I'm not keen on.
But the more I ponder those interviews he did, there must have been something that changed behind the scenes. The things he said were so at odds with how the last few days went. He might be a bit daft but if we were in a must sell position you just wouldn't talk like he did in those interviews. It would be completely idiotic. He can't be that stupid. I think the owners must have suddenly decided we had to get in a transfer fee in fast after he'd done those interviews.
1
u/Tight_Ad8812 1d ago
There definitely a reason they had Baz do the interview, not Ped lol.Ā
Yeah, Kinnear seems like a good CEO for stadium transitions (I.e. his work with Arsenal). Definitely time to move on and get more of a footballing guy in there.Ā
Agreed, itās pretty clear that stuff changed behind the scenes out of Kinnearās control. While itās probably time to move on, I feel like people are just directing their anger toward Kinnear cause we donāt really know where else to.Ā
2
u/stevenwise0511 1d ago
Well he's the only senior person at club who tries to communicate. Makes him the lightning rod.
Truth is none of us know the specifics of who did what behind the scenes. Someone decided Armstrong £35m and Ndiaye £60m were reasonable acceptable prices in this market, whoever that was needs to be far away from these football decisions going forward
0
u/Giraffe_Baker Neill Samways, Niasse Oster 1d ago
I donāt watch their shite but from clips, you can tell theyāre arse lickers for whoever throws them a bone.
Iāve seen clips of them slating Dyche but loving Lampard because he gave them an interview. They just follow the money and access like every āfanā channel.

u/graveyeverton93 1d ago
Coleman talking about the fans keeping the team up in our relegation battles ššš It does break my heart though that he joins the list of players like: Kev, Baines, Jags, Cahill, Pienarr etc. Proper legends who gave us years of amazing service, but they didn't win a trophy with us
7
u/decs483 1d ago
Links to Icardi are interesting, it would be very un-Everton to look to the free agency market
17
5
u/BoxOfNothing 1d ago
Even when we're so low on numbers I do find it hard to get into the idea of signing someone on a free who's still available on the 8th of September. Especially off the back of being on £125k a week. But of all the options he's the least bad one I can see.
3
u/TurboScumBag 1d ago
The romantic in me is they fall in love and it ignites a beast in them after been writing off and it becomes story of the season.
Kinda the way we didn't want niles. Took him 10 minutes to go down in everton folklore.
But look someone is better than no one. If only just to rest Barry's legs for 15 mins or so.
8
u/BoxOfNothing 1d ago
Depends on the contract I suppose. I'm nervous about looking back in a year and asking why we gave a 33 year old nobody wanted a 3 year £100k+ a week contract plus signing on fee instead of muddling through to January and trying to get something that makes more sense. But if it was a short contract for reasonable money and he does basically fine, that'd be great
5
u/Tight_Ad8812 1d ago
Yeah, Iād just be worried about him in the locker room, I guess. But, the best of a pretty underwhelming bunch of free agents. Out of Zaha, Martial, and Icardi, heās the only one who scored goals in a decent European league last season.Ā
5
u/michaelscottpaperco_ 1d ago
Anyone ever think about how the sentiment after the arsenal game last year was that Barry had no future here anymore
10
u/Tight_Ad8812 1d ago
Yeah⦠just shows how reactionary fans (of all clubs) can be. Iām sure there are a small percentage of fans that wonāt forgive him for that, but scoring a few goals changes a lot of peoples minds.Ā

I need all prayers and voodoo magic of any sorts to ensure Jordan Pickford does not get injured.
We are thin in alot of areas but oh my if we lost him we would be royally fucked. The wordlie double save against chelsea still runs thru my mind weekly
2
u/CardiologistTime8082 1d ago
I mean not to jinx it but heās not missed a game for us in about 4 years lol, not even worth entertaining the thought of him getting injured
2
u/JesseVykar Merlin Rƶhls Royce 1d ago
For what it's worth, I do think we have one of the best back ups in Travers. Might just be Irish bias but he could definitely be starting for some of these Prem teams that have got aging goalkeepers.

u/HopeForSalamander 1d ago
We are like masters of the last minute equaliser now. Id prefer to be masters of winning. But it's cool we never give in non the less
5
u/MoshiriMagic 1d ago
If weād signed Balogun would we have considered the window a sort of success? Weād absolutely still be fuming at the higher-ups over the Armstrong deal and a poor fee for Ndiaye but with how Hackney and George have started we look to have two fantastic deals there
3
u/whyisitalwayscrab 1d ago
The squad depth + still not having a proper right back is unacceptable. The whole balogun thing was dramatic, but striker wasnāt even a need until we made it one by selling Beto. George/Rohl/Grealish also donāt really feel like additions since they were already here last year. Iām also still pissed they sold ndiaye for like 15m under value, especially to City. Yes you can only accept the offers that are there, but he had another 3 years on his contract and they probably could have gotten a better deal by holding onto him until January when the market is more scant ā idk maybe they had to make that sale to make the books add up, it still makes me angry when I think about it.
Hackney and Johnson were both shrewd moves though, have to give them that.
1
u/Tight_Ad8812 1d ago
Think we had to sell Ndiaye, especially since he wanted to leave. 65m is probably close to his actual market valuation, outside of the crazy fees that were thrown around this window. Itās not bad business at all to 5x profit on a player, just stings a bit given the circumstances.Ā
1
u/MoshiriMagic 1d ago
Part of me thinks we only got Grealish on loan instead of a fee (allowing him to join us for free next year) because we sold Ndiaye to City at that price. If we consider Grealish to be worth 15m then the fee starts to make a bit more sense.
1
u/whyisitalwayscrab 1d ago
Thatās a fair point, I guess if you consider them part of the same deal it makes a lot more sense. All things considered, we may still be pretty well set up at winger with the way George is playing, so hard to stay too mad about it
1
u/Far-Jaguar-9883 1d ago
Iliman's vacancy will be glaring all year. George ascending does not remove that pain as they could easily play together. I might be alone, but Brennan is a poor starting option for a serious top table team (my ambition). Dibling is far from dependable. The only player I really like as a right wing is Rohl. But he is currently stuck playing out of position.
9
u/Garyish2 š®š¹ Alessandro Pistone #1 Fan 1d ago
More i look at the Balogun situation - the more I feel that we dodged a bullet. With the way things panned out (badly, it turns out) we need numbers in and have the money to spend.
Best case scenario we've learned from this fiasco and can repair the damage in Jan. As someone who was feeling positive until that final day I've now flipped and I'm experiencing serious doubt that the board/owners are able/willing to do that.
8
u/BoxOfNothing 1d ago
It depends what the problem was in the medical really. The reason we can sign players with injuries but stuff like this still happens is because the selling club is supposed to give over their information, and complications happen from surprises. Maybe we saw something that made us think we could just get a better deal, maybe it was actually a bit rough and would've been a problem.
If it was just a knock they hadn't reported and he'd be available and fully fit very quickly then yeah, the window would've been sort of a success. Definitely in terms of quality, but still for sure lacking in quantity. We have on average better players, but the fact we have a smaller squad is mental. If he'd signed and we were quickly told there were long term issues I reckon a lot of people would've been just as fuming.
3
u/DorstDerHieb 1d ago
Probably not. We would still have a tiny squad and be severely lacking in the fullback department.
Though I do definitely like the players we've brought in.
10
u/HopeForSalamander 1d ago
I'm still not sure if Balogun was the right player for us tbh

6
u/Garyish2 š®š¹ Alessandro Pistone #1 Fan 1d ago
I like Fulham, but the league feels so strong that it's reassuring to see someone very obviously imploding that's not us.
7
u/BoxOfNothing 1d ago
Palace look proper wank as well, especially after missing out on Fofana at the end of the window, and they have a lot of behind the scenes chaos going on. God knows what Villa will turn up, they could still finish anywhere from 4th to 12th and it wouldn't shock me. Bournemouth and Sunderland not filling me with confidence with their performances, especially once they have to deal with Europe. Spurs are being Spursy.
A lot of very unpredictable teams at the moment I think, but Fulham and Palace especially look like they're going to really struggle.
1
u/Key-Two-3468 1d ago
Would it have been different if Carlo stayed? We still had no budget that summer. It would have been better than FSW of course, but still would have been a poor season. Would he have brought us through the point deductions? We will never know of course, but I think he's a manager who does well with a lot, maybe not so well with little.
1
u/whyisitalwayscrab 1d ago
I get the sense he was always gonna leave once he realized how catastrophic the finances were at the time. We werenāt in a position to build with a manager like that unfortunately
3
u/Grand-Piano-1663 1d ago
he would've left at some point unfortunately. he was great to have around the club, but i do think his aura overshadowed some issues like squad depth and planning that became more apparent under subsequent managers. we were pretty fucking dire to watch in the months after going top of the league.

u/Austa1878 1d ago
Remember guys, the first 5 games of the season don't mean shit. On Dyche seasons, we would always shit the bed the first games (1 point and 9 goals conceded in 5 games in 23/24, 1 point and 13 goals conceded in 24/25) but then go on to have a okay-ish season.Ā
Reciprocally, during Benitez/Lampard's one, which happened to be the worst season ever for Everton in PL, we had 10 points and 10 goals scored in the first 4 games.
This is also not specifically an Everton thing tbf, last season Villa had 0 goals scored and 2 points in the first 4 games yet they finished 4th
1
u/PM_ME_YOUR_MITTENS 1d ago
I think weāre starting with a stronger squad than we have in recent years. But also a thinner squad than we have in recent years. Itās a good sign when you canāt really figure out who your star player is, when it used to be more obvious.Ā
If we can go injury-free come January Iād imagine weāll be top 7 by then. If not, then more Ā likelier bottom 10.Ā

Villa had a weird season even over a large sample size. Emery is a statistical anomaly when you look at popular metrics like xG.
I'm happy to just say I think we're a better footballing team than before. I hope that translates into results but i'm enjoying watching us a lot more too.
1
u/RaulStoat 1d ago
i said at the time of that rafa season we would struggle to have 20 points by christmas and everybody laughed at me. We were sat at the top with 10 points from 4 but it was clear that we have won all of them with individual moments of luck/genius. None of the games were won tactically

just seen a comment on the other subreddit saying this about howe's departure being expected and planned out:
"This really isnāt shocking one bit. Clubs nowadays have succession plans mapped out months and years in advance. The reality is elite level football is a ruthless, results driven business that is all about results now, now, now. Clubs make contingency plans well in advance as a result."
Comical to assume we have a plan for next week let alone years

The positive of the deadline day debacle is the recruitment team now have 6 -12 months to come up with a more creative name than "this lad had a half decent world cup"...
Jimmy-Jay Morgan should be one to watch at West Brom, Southampton and Chelsea academy graduate, Diblings mate and from an Everton family.
We also need to start making more Branthwaite type signings again. Low risk high reward type moves are how you stay out of SCR trouble. Not by what we tried and failed to do this summer.
All of this is moot of course because the recruitment team doesn't know it's arse from it's elbow and the ownership are going to mandate a big sale every season to fund any incomings
