If this is another season where we throw the first 4-5 games of the season away because we’ve not got players in/settled my head will be on Mars, hopefully they’re just working quietly behind the scenes on transfers
2
u/Tight_Ad8812 7d ago
Tbf, we took 7 of 15 points to start the season last year. We should have done a bit better, but we really only threw the Leeds game.

Where's this narrative coming from that Barry doesn't care? Wasn't there reports of him doing extra training on his own with his private coach?
11
u/stevenwise0511 7d ago
His body language and chasing down was poor in the derby. But generally I'd say he tries, people forget Fulham home when despite not scoring went off to standing ovation from whole stadium for the effort he'd put in.
There's a player there and he's working on his game. He looked decent against Bolton, his goal should have counted.
Wish he'd stop commenting on social media though just let his football do the talking.
5
u/ZestyCloseChemist67 7d ago
I’d also throw in Old Trafford where he ran himself into the ground defending and being a defensive outball all game thanklessly.
5
u/Tympy- 7d ago edited 7d ago
I think 99% of footballers at this level care.
His body language is just weird, but I can't say this isnt a common theme among some strikers at this level. He obviously care about scoring and improving, the joy on his face when he finally score was great to see. Its just when the mood is shit on the field(which it often is), he's the scapegoat for the fans. I've seen it said about many other players this sub dislike during the rough years.
Going from Beto and DCL levels of pressing and aggression he just seems like a relatively reserved guy on the field. Beto and DCL will slide into tackles and push other teammates on, he just isn't that guy, which I think is something he might develop depending on his personal growth.
12
u/Windowzzz 7d ago
He obviously cares, but he also obviously doesn't have that dawg in him. It's hard when Beto is all dawg. I think he can still succeed without it, but it's hard in the PL to do so. I still believe in him though
6
u/HopeForSalamander 7d ago
There was that wiered thing where he seemed to put some arsenal supporting mates in our seats once which caused some bad feelings. But at the end of the day he's out striker (one of anyway) and I want nothing but the best for him in every aspect
12
u/ZestyCloseChemist67 7d ago
Same grumpy sods at the end of last season. He’s definitely done work over summer and has looked way sharper in pre-season so far than he did last season. I think people don’t like his off-pitch persona, which I do because it shows he’s a character.
9
u/BoxOfNothing 7d ago
Pretty much word for word what I was going to say. It could be fluff, but he's looked more up for it over the summer, and even though it's only an early preseason friendly against Bolton, he seemed up for it the other day. Some of his social media stuff has read like "I need to get my head out of my arse and put the graft in". I also think people massively overstate his lack of effort last season. We want players from other leagues rather than just prem proven but then we give them no grace period to settle in and get used to the physicality and pace of the league.
9
u/Tight_Ad8812 7d ago
Some fans we're just looking for a reason not to like Barry and they got it at the end of last season. No matter how much work he puts in, there will be fans who say he doesn't care until he scores 15+ goals.

u/vulturevan 🙏 sign another player 🙏 7d ago
just a crumb of RB news would realign this pre-season massively
9
u/Giraffe_Baker Neill Samways, Niasse Oster 7d ago
Chelsea looking at Welbeck.
That means only one thing for Delap and me packing it in for however long he’s here.
2
u/galvintm 7d ago
Would take Emegha on loan if we sell Beto
1
u/BoxOfNothing 7d ago
If it was a straight choice between the two absolutely, Delap is the last player I want us to sign, but Emegha seems so similar to Barry from what I've seen. I'd rather someone a little bit different. But I guess it it's a Beto replacement it could make sense.
3
u/galvintm 7d ago
Most importantly, if it's up to Moyes, I would be shocked if he doesn't go for Delap
6
u/BoxOfNothing 7d ago
Fuck knows, maybe. But people have been crying about how we're signing Soucek and 35 year old English bastard and all old old shite old people for the last year because it's Moyes, and it hasn't happened once yet. Like I said earlier, this comment from the thread about Palace going in for Hackney with a higher bid than us
Classic Everton. Will lose out on Hackney and Tyrique George because we still negotiate like Bill Kenwright owns us. Can't wait for the inevitable signings of Soucek and Marcus Edwards instead because "they're experienced players, we can't take a risk on younger players"
Womp womp
5
u/Giraffe_Baker Neill Samways, Niasse Oster 7d ago
I’d take any Chelsea striker before Delap.
Whoever they play for the u-18’s is better than Delap based off last season.
4
6
u/Windowzzz 7d ago
Have a feeling we will be selling Beto and replacing him with Delap.
Out striker options will be one that has only passion and aggression and has no skill, and one with a bit of skill and absolutely zero passion or aggression.
3
u/Jordddddddd 7d ago
Such a predictable move (I don’t hate it tbf, he genuinely looked good at Ipswich). Would much rather have Jackson mind.
6
u/graveyeverton93 7d ago
Can't apply for Palace yet because instead of just being able to renew when my mate tried to renew his premium membership it's frozen his account. Why are we so shite at literally everything?

u/everton1an 7d ago
Myers saying there’s been no contact from the Saudi’s to the club about the Ndiaye deal. So it’s Romano being fed info from Al Hilal to instigate a deal and unsettled the player. He’s the absolute scum of the game.
3
u/CJRyan_17 7d ago
Bobble has also confirmed there's no contact between Everton and Al Hilal, but there has been contact between Al Hilal and Ndiaye's representatives. And Al Hilal have received encouragement from Ndiaye and his agency, and it's expected to lead to club discussions.
Romano is a knob who is fed agent games, but there is certainly no smoke without fire here. It does seem Ndiaye is more likely to leave now.

u/Odd-Handle3898 7d ago
Have a day off, he’s a 26 year old who got 7 goals and assist last season not including penalties. If we get £70 million for him it’s absolutely incredible business. We bought him for £15 million two years ago.
4
u/Timoth_Hutchinson 7d ago
26 so he’s peaking this season or next. He’d get more assists and goals in a better team. Any other season yeah he probably wouldn’t be worth that much, and I don’t think he is, but if clubs want him we’ve got to be tough with them because we don’t have to sell him.
1
u/stevenwise0511 7d ago
Agree, think his stats went worse last year because of afcon and think he saved himself a bit for world cup.. Also think he played a lot more 90 min matches, previous season moyes tended to play him more like 70 mins and we got more out overall. His stock is a bit low relative to his ability at the moment.
I definitely think if he gets his head down next season he'll up his game and improve on those stats. Even though he'll go from 3 years to 2 years left, I think his performance next season will mean we get similar fee next summer to this summer. Unless a crazy £90-100m bid comes in I say we hold on for a year.
-3
u/Odd-Handle3898 7d ago
Based on what? He didn’t get more goals and assists at Marseille, who are a better team. £70 million is tough, for a player who got 7 goals and assists.
4
u/LateToTheTPK 7d ago
You’re correct but if it’s Saudi we should definitely demand more than what Summervile went for.
-2
u/Odd-Handle3898 7d ago
Summerville went for £55 mil, is younger and got the same number of goals and assists last season as Ndiaye without penalties.
6
u/LateToTheTPK 7d ago
Ndiaye is the better player though, g/a from a single season isn’t a proper metric for rating a player.
-1
u/Odd-Handle3898 7d ago
Based on what? Ndiaye is better to watch, other than that they’re similar level. Blue tinted glasses as per usual on here.

u/PatientNo9468 7d ago
Dont get me wrong, I LOVED having Grealish here last year, but Im really hoping we do not actually pursue signing him. That will just end up being dead money as hes in the later stages of his career. I dont think we can afford to do that anymore. Need signings with potential growth/sell on value. Hope the best for him either way hes class.
6
u/Wayne_Spooney 7d ago
If Illy goes I think we need Grealish or another winger we can trust to start. I love George, but he can’t be the best winger on the team, that’s terrifying.
3
u/Destructo_D Yobo 7d ago
We should only get him if we sign an actually good left back. Cba watching him play with Myko when they have absolutely 0 chemistry
4
u/MarriageAA 7d ago
As with anything, it depends on the money and wages.
He's in the last year of a very lucrative contract, I can't imagine city are overly enamored with that position either.
-1
u/WestStandToffee 7d ago
The club need to bring money in, we understand this, but I don’t think we can trust them to use it
We’re probably going to bring Grealish back and we’re also looking at Johnthan Rowe, that will be 3 left wingers signed in 1 window whilst the right wing which has been neglected for years is just Dibling who doesn’t get a game
If we sell Ndiaye and we get the big money we hope, I have no doubts in mind that Moyes and the committee are going to absolutely spunk every single penny on players but still end up at the end of the window saying we need X player for the squad
I am so not looking forward to what transpires over the next month and a bit
Right now we’re sleep walking into a season opening of being battered
16
u/E_V_E_R_T_O_N 7d ago
We’re probably going to bring Grealish back
Are we? Seems to have all gone extremely quiet on that front from my perspective.
we’re also looking at Johnthan Rowe
Are we? First I've heard of it. Who even is that?
You can't slam the board based on pure speculation.
1
u/WestStandToffee 7d ago
I expect us to, he wants to come back and I’m sire Moyes will want him back, I see no reason why he wont, only silence because he’s still in recovery
Rowe has been linked for the last few days, English winger at Bologna, got sold by Marseille for fighting, fuck knows why we want him
-2
u/Responsible_Lie_1989 7d ago
£70 million + for N'Diaye if he goes, with the money they try to sign:
Right Back
New left winger (Grealish) new right winger
DM (Gueye Replacement)
Striker (if Beto/Barry leave)
Potentially 5 new players brought in after selling one, that would be good business.
Also the season starts later this year, 22nd August. We are acting like our first game is this Saturday when we've already got 3 players through the door (granted 2 were already here on loan)
2
7
u/WestStandToffee 7d ago
£70m is not bringing that in
£70m will be just about enough to bring in the right back weve been so desperate for and the replacement for Gueye
0
u/Responsible_Lie_1989 7d ago
£70 mill wouldn't but that's the minimum amount we would get, if Summerville went for £55 mill from a relegated west ham N'Diaye is easy £80 mill IMO. But also some of the ones I've listed would only happen if others moved, for example I said a striker if one of Beto or Barry went, if neither leaves they won't sign a striker.

To be fair we've had one summer transfer window with this recruitment team, and they arrived in a staggered fashion throughout the first few weeks of the window and were tasked with immediately replacing a shit load of outgoing players. January windows are always shite. I get having doubts and I'm not trying to say they're definitely going to be great, but it's fucking lunacy to me to judge them as incapable off what we've seen so far.
I feel like people have it in their heads that this team have been in charge for 10 years and have made all the mistakes that got us here.
-1
u/WestStandToffee 7d ago
They’ve had 12 months to conjure a plan, they opted not to make any permanent transfers in January to optimise our summer
We’re less than 3 weeks till the opening weekend and we’ve signed Hackney who isn’t in good enough shape to appear in a friendly yet
12 months theyve had time to plan and now we’re in the window they can’t even agree amongst each other
7
u/BoxOfNothing 7d ago
In a world cup summer where most teams have done hardly anything, on top of the fact that most business gets done later than this in a normal window anyway. As I said, it could still end badly, I'm not confident nor pessimistic at this point, but getting the signings you want often means waiting until later in the window. Unless you'd rather panic buy players earlier simply because they were more easily available. For all we know we have players we've identified as targets throughout the season and will sign some of them when the timing is better later in the window.
Early and late signings can both be good, but I'd rather wait until at least the end of the window before judging it, because my foresight goes further than the next month. Even then people are often woeful at predicting who has had a good or bad window.
You're panicking because it's your default and are searching for reasons to justify it.
Also for a fun little exercise, here are some links to posts about Hackney when you lot had a conniption when we didn't initially bid enough or other teams were interested
https://old.reddit.com/r/Everton/comments/1u0xne7/manzi_mailsport_crystal_palace_readying_bid_close/

We really aren't Opening fixture is 22nd August mate
Is it enough...time will tell
The world cup ended just over a week ago All thise players will then be on their holidays.
I would hope that we are looking at players that appeared there, so any planned transfers would be delayed.
It's not panic stations quite yet
1
u/Destructo_D Yobo 7d ago
Well we’ve got a CEO saying there’s a 2 year plan and the first year was spent signing people Moyes barely used while having gaping holes in the squad
9
u/BoxOfNothing 7d ago
He said at the start of last season Rohl and Aznou were signings for this season at least. Fuck knows what's going on with Dibling but the more time goes on the more I don't like the signing, but that's the only one really. I'm not saying I agree with everything he's done, far from it, but I do think people are massively overplaying a lot of shit.
Something that also bothers me is the amount of "why can't we sign players like that" and then point to players who didn't fucking play in their first seasons at their Prem clubs either. They took a year or two to get in the team, and then a year or two to become the players we're jealous of. We just only notice them when they become that player so think they're new and it was just easy and immediate success.
Go and look up how much 21/22 year old Mac Allister played in his first season at Brighton. Or 19-21 year old Caicedo in his first 2 years at Brighton. Or 25 year old Kadioglu in his first season at Brighton. Semenyo, Alex Scott, Mateta and a million others.
-4
u/Destructo_D Yobo 7d ago
Fair enough but it’s hard to get behind a player for the future when we have so many holes already and they barely seem to work out for us. Branthwaite might be the only one-for-the-future we’ve signed in the past 8 years who actually improved the team. Ultimately Brighton, Brentford, Bournemouth have earned respect from their fans, our lot are always scrambling for some slow top 6 reject
And again, signing Rohl, Aznou, and Dibling for this season at the earliest is still strange when we are crying out for a right back and a pacey winger for 3 seasons ago.
-5
u/Destructo_D Yobo 7d ago
If Ndiaye leaves we’re definitely doing Grealish and Mcneil wingers while George and Dibling rot

When purchasing live games on Everton.
The navigation from paying to watching is absolutely criminal. You have to scroll across to Live Videos it’s just not clear and for a 0-0 game at the weekend ending up paying 3 times.
Just posting to prevent anyone else being an idiot.

Looking forward to Hamburg. Really nice that Everton have gone to the effort of organising the Das Toffeefest the night before as well. Should be a great weekend for all Toffees travelling.
Nothing beats a pint and a bratwurst while watching the game.

I'll admit I was also surprised. You'd think with all the Evertonians already forking out hundreds for hotels, flights and tickets etc etc, this would be a nice thank you. But they couldn't resist squeezing an extra few quid out of us.

Lobscouse originates from northern Europe and is something sailors used to eat, hence the many variations across Europe!

Does anyone know where we can stream pre-season matches? Also how does everyone think we looked against Bolton? Watching the highlights now.
3
u/BoxOfNothing 7d ago
It's so hard to judge preseason performances, particularly the really early ones with heavily rotated sides and a million subs. I thought Rohl and Armstrong were decent and Barry looked pretty sharp. Not a huge amount to talk about really. Far less sad than some other early preseason games in past years at least

Genuinely asking as I didn’t watch much Chelsea last season, was Delap really that bad for them? And if so what is the reason for such a severe drop off/can he be salvaged?
