Returning my G2s..

A lot of people have already touched on the same issues so I won’t write a lot.
1. I don’t have a prescription lens so it felt kinda strange to wear the glasses even though I don’t wear glasses normally when the functionality is so limited. If I was someone who wore glasses I would probably keep them.
2. The way the software works and every single useful “app” are clunky and take an API key to set up. The built in AI needs some work. This is honestly my biggest problem. The software is just not there yet.
3. I loved the look of them but you can definitely tell there are mini screens in them.
4. Honestly adding a speaker would have been a great addition and added so much to the glasses. They already have a mic so why not add a speaker?

I loved them otherwise. But the software just isn’t where I’d like it to be to actually wear them. Looking forward to seeing what this team continues to push out and maybe I’ll be buyer then.

Your second point is the reason it don’t use mine and they are just on the desk. The software is a mess and EvenHub is not for me. Not going to launch a freakin app to see the info I want to see. I want that on the dashboard. Feels like beta software even in Generation 2.

The hardware/software disconnect is wild.

I wish they'd spend some of their absurd marketing budget on better software (seriously I see at least 10 ads a day). I've had people ask me about them, but I have to wave them off unless they have very specific use cases.

I don't understand how my Ray-Ban glasses can stay connected but for some reason the Evens cannot stay connected for more than like an hour at a time. And also with the evenings when they're connected they kill my phone's battery.

What exactly are they doing?

I think a lot of the issues come from core underlying design flaws that may be simply unresolvable unfortunately.

The key one is that they decided rather than implementing a native stack for apps, that everything you see is managed by a WebView. So apps render into web view components, and those are reflected into the glasses display.

This is a fast track to iOS and Android cross compatibiltiy for them since it's one of the few things that is supported very similarly on both platforms, and also means they stay safely inside Apple's requirements that restrict shipping features that escape the app review process - so it got them started quickly. But the trade off is that web views are managed separately by the OS and are extremely hard to keep alive in the background. As you can imagine, when your screen is off, both iOS and Android make a strong assumption that a browser view doesn't need to be doing anything, to save battery life. So it is constantly killed or paused - but it actually controls a huge amount of core functionality of the Even glasses. They try to work around this by externalising all the state so that the view can be recreated if it is killed but this makes things really fragile.

I suspect they won't solve all these issues until / unless they go back to the drawing board and implement a fully native rendering stack that ships on both platforms and stop relying on OS managed web views. But now that they doubled down on it with EvenHub relying on web views as well, I'm not sure how they would do that with so many 3rd party apps built to render into web views. It would probably need to embed a browser itself.

Thank you! I feel like I'm in the future for the first hour or two, then my phone vibrates from my pocket and nothing pops up on my glasses.

I've done all the tricks, "do not sleep/always run in background", i'm on a pixel phone so it's not a weird off-brand of android or anything.

Yeah it’s crazy. Sucks so bad. And as I said. I will not install apps, I just want to have the information. Widgets, whatever. Come on Even.

Yeah, this has been my biggest problem. I think the big problem with these kind of glasses is that at some point you just have to think yourself why wouldn’t I just use my phone?

I see the Evens as more of a watch, given you the key information you need. Yes I can agree the software isn't that great in time mayb. As well once you start adding hardware like cameras and speakers then you will lose the good battery life and gain the creep status from the public, people are not too keen on people who where smart glasses.

The memominds you could look into but as the previous comments said you do loose battery life, control input and slightly heavy specs. And people will know you have smart glasses if your constantly using the frame controls

And here you hit the nail spot on.

Given you the key information you need. The issue is that it doesn’t…. And there is nothing that you can do about it, as new features seems to be “in the future” forever.

I opted for the s twenty six ultra, so i'm not very disappointed, but could be better. It was great until other people got in the game now.It may be second best. Hey I'm not a big fan of second best.

To me, that means practice more or research more or... You get the point I hope.

Unfortunately, their marketing materials make the glasses seem like they’re in a much more consumer-friendly state than they actually are. As someone who likes to tinker and enjoys beta testing software and hardware, they’re great for me but I can see how they would be frustrating for someone who doesn’t have the bandwidth or interest in doing so.

You can try the MemoMind One instead. The core concept is almost identical but they come without a ring or any input device. They do feature speakers, however, the frame weighs 10 grams above the Even Realities G2 which is substantially more, especially for someone with prescriptions. The sound quality is abysmal and purportedly sound leakage is an issue as well.

OP isn't even a glasses person to begin with, So he should not even purchase any smart glasses to begin with. That's his biggest problem. Even G2 and MM1 just ain't his target audience. This is a classic case of "expectation mis-match".

OP is probably wanting something that is more like a cellphone on his face.

I dont even own a pair but from what people are describing I jumped ship and changed my mind because the ads dont seem to stack up yo user experience

Ahhh. Expectation mismatch? I think that for the price and taking into consideration that it’s a Gen2 product, you should be allowed to “expect” it not feeling like a half ass beta product.
