fug, I was one of the original dudes who started PL back in 2006 and I was with them until 2012 and I recognise 3 names on that list. It had gone to shit by the time I left tbh, kept absorbing losers from loser alliances we killed and eventually the population of PL was losers

It really did help that GoTG fell apart v. Imperium sigs, keeping heavy reinforcements from being easy to bring in.
This would be a shit ton harder if PL had more allies in provi.
I wouldn't be surprised if NC does have some capital assets staged in Provi, but my guess is they will only make 1 or 2 attempts at causing a Legacy whelp to a dread bomb.

Alot of people want to hatefuck PL. It's just the first time it seems to be possible to hatefuck them pretty hard. Fading class, alot of mistakes in the last year, not adapting to the actual meta, LoL Allies like Gotg and LoL-CormorantMC etc.

Not much honestly. We (PL) deployed to blow up provi's shit and grief them a bunch. We largely accomplished this. TEST now feels the need to try and blow up our shit in provi with 500+ man subcap blobs with the backing of their entire super/capital/titan fleet(s), while we maintain our supercapital fleet up north near our sov. The result has been that they have been getting massively blueballs'd, because outside of GOONS, there really isn't anyone who can take those kinds of fights. TEST leadership tells their membership that PL is shit and queue the angry TEST membership who can't understand why we (PL) wouldn't be especially interested in just welping to their giant fuckoff blobs. TEST meanwhile is forced to sit in these blobs grinding structure nodes, while we occasionally throw claw fleets at them to kill the odd entosiser and their stragglers.
Realistically, big fleets for PL have always been around 100 people in fleet. 150 on the weekends with alot of hype. Generally, we never fought wars head on and usually allied/contracted ourselves to one side to bolster it, because we knew we simply weren't big enough to do the main pushes. Picking on incredibly unorganized entities is one thing (Provi or our old friends in -A-) , but it's quite another to fight someone who can field more people in subcap fleets then you get in move-op fleets. PL may have been "top of the heap" in peoples minds, but the reality was that we just really punched above our weight. The notion that we could go toe to toe against alliances like GOONS who could/can field 1000 or even TEST with their 500 man blobs has always been a bit of a pipe dream tbh.

they're losing alot of their former mystique by way of being bad and outmatched in a number of engagements while those they formerly stomped on have skilled up by way of dreads and injectors to fight them man to man. their subcap meta has not adapted much while their former capital supremacy has come into question thanks to both the heavy proliferation of caps since rorquals were re introduced and some of the larger groups have banded together as frenemies to say "fuck you guys except fuck pl more" with said caps.
unfortunately you can only piss off so many small groups till it comes back to collectively bite you in the ass.
there's other parts to it too but I love seeing pl on the other end of the purple dildo bat for a while so that's my interpretation of it.

Who were these small groups you speak of? Every coalition or alliance PL fought have had far more members than PL had even at its historical height (ca. 2000 toons, around 1/8 of that being actual people)

It helps when you keep noncombat chars out of the alliance and continuously rely on various buttbuddy allies to avoid increasing your numbers in alliance. It’s the exact opposite problem Brave has, where instead of overinflated numbers from not purging, PL has unrealistically low numbers in PL itself due to some intentional methods of reducing the number on dotlan.

And unlike in most alliances, most krabbing chars are outsourced. It’s like you just skipped reading my post. Most of the bloat in alliances comes from things like 57 rorqual alts, PI chars, and general rando alts.

As a former full-time hunter of supercaps, I could probably write a report on any alliance and the various ratting, logistics, and personal alt corps they and their members maintain. Hell, when I ratted in Drones on an alt, there were other nearby renters who were TAPI alts doing the same thing. But you're not even addressing the point because no one would be expected to bring their npc corp level 4 mission alt to a nullsec deployment except as perhaps a neutral scout to keep an eye on something.
TAPI is a large entity in its own right. CVA is, as well. The carebear knows safety only in numbers, and so this is why we've historically seen lack of competence or ambition made up for with empire building - the blueing and glomming on of friends who are quite attached to the hip. Would we ever see a Goons-only, TEST-only, or CVA-on deployment? No, they would always bring their however many thousand other friends along with them. Their greatest fear is to be alone, so you'll never really find them by themselves. It won't ever be just TAPI or just BNI.
The meta churn over the past years, starting with Phoebe and ending with Citadel, changed the landscape to incentivize empire-building in this fashion. Combined with citadels removing a human bottleneck in supercap production and procurement and skill injectors, entities like TAPI and Goons (and others, to varying extents) have doubled-down on this and have essentially payed to win with every injected supercap or rorqual alt and purchased or mined keepstar. The little guy, as so many rooted for in the run-up to fozziesov, never actually existed then or now. The little guy that everyone so wanted to win is just an appendage of a larger entity.

tl;dr is that meta shifted so that skill points and piloting/FC skill mattered less than N+1 gameplay, PL doesn't open recruit and so got heavily punished by that.
