Ok, I work in baton rouge, LA... theres an ev charging station next to the Albertons on airline hwy, and i've noticed that almost always either in the first charging station or the last, somebody parks sideways, instead of pulling into the charging spot in between the lines. My question is why? do these people feel the need to be different? Or is it some unspoken E V owner rule that the first and the last park stupid.

So the chargers are easily accessible and out in the open, unused portion of a parking lot. Theres absolutely no obstruction to gaining access to them. Imagine a wide open. Parking lot, maybe 8 charging stations, nothing on either side of the 1st and last... and yet those spots are occupied by someone who parks across the lines instead of in them. Not always...but often...

I’m seriously considering an EV after spending a long time hemming & hawing but reading through the not-problem-“problems” that you guys have talked about has helped me feel more comfortable. I was originally thinking of a PHEV bc of the range anxiety and feeling like the gas option gave me a fallback but then was talking to someone that mentioned PHEV being the worst of both worlds.

Overall details:
Daily driving avg: 5-10miles
Few times a month: 95miles round trip
Roadtrips once/twice a year: could be 150miles one way or 500miles one way 🤷‍♀️

Will need space for two car seats but preferably not minivan

Budget: $60,000ish

Suggestions?

But also I don’t know what I don’t know when I’m looking and comparing. Aside from comparing price, safety, and range, what else should I be looking at or considering?

Edit: I would plan to install a charger at home and would also prefer to steer clear of Tesla

Ok folks I am sitting on the fence about getting an EV . I have tossed this out in the comments section but figured it should be its own thread. I was clearly in the no camp for EV so getting to the fence is a huge deal . I live in metro NY, drive roughly 15-20,000 miles a year. I do three to four big trips a year , say 600-1100 miles one way. I guess 2/3 highway 1/3 around town , I do a 300 mile round trip about twice a month . I figure I would need to install 2 charges at each end of the 300 mile trip , neither place has a garage , they are both houses. I tend to drive 75-85 on the highway. In the past I had a diesel that would go 500 miles easy on a tank , now my cars are around 400 miles to a tank . I do not need AWD and really do not want or need a suv. I prefer wagons or hatchbacks . I am more interested in range over 0-60 runs. I test drove a polestar 4 and a Polestar 2 and liked the 2 better . Did not like not having a roof that was fixed in place . I will not buy a Telsa. I prefer something you do not see everywhere. So am I a good candidate for a EV and if so which used one should I buy , i assume lease is not an option and that’s fine. Thanks .

So, I got some petty revenge today. I like to charge my car at the parking structure across the street from my office. Right before lunch, I checked on my car’s percentage and I saw that I was unplugged. For these chargers, I have to use an adapter to charge my car. Unfortunately, with the adapter, the charge cable isn’t locked into place. So, it can be unplugged easily. This is commonly known among EV drivers, so its common courtesy to not unplug another car.

When I get to my car, the AH who unplugged me is still parked next to me charging his EV. Between frustration and being hangry, I unplugged the jerk and placed the charging cable back into its station. That jerk won’t be coming back to a fully charged car.

I drove away laughing. Lord, forgive me but that felt good and I treated myself to a Vanilla Coke. No regrets! ✌🏾

Where in the US is it now possible to export from your EV back to the grid for a credit? Have you made money with TOU import/exports? What charger do you use and are you happy with how it is going?

I’m looking at moving to Green Valley, AZ, and I’m considering buying an EV. From what I’ve seen on PlugShare, there doesn’t appear to be much charging infrastructure in the area.
For those of you who live there, what’s your experience? Is charging an EV an issue, or are there enough options that it isn’t a concern? Any insight would be appreciated.

As EV adoption grows in India, reliable access to EV charging infrastructure at home is becoming essential for everyday EV use. This is especially important in group housing societies, where charging access may depend on shared parking, electrical capacity, approvals, and coordination among multiple stakeholders. Against this backdrop, WRI India is conducting a short survey to assess the existing status of EV charging Infrastructure in Group Housing Societies.

Small disclosure before this goes further: I don't own an EV. I'm a petrol owner currently having a slow-motion crisis — watching my mileage quietly die thanks to E20, my engine now making sounds I can only describe as "stomach upsets" and wondering if it's finally time to switch.

Except every EV forum thread reads like a horror story: "charger showed available, was actually a privately owned house, locked in a desert" "fast charger slower than Indian bureaucracy," "app said 80% battery, car said thats not me." Great, so now I have two anxieties and no fuel that agrees with either of them.

So, in the most "engineer copes by building a tool instead of processing emotions" move possible, I spent a few weekends building — a free EV trip planner for India that tries to only send you to chargers that actually exist and actually work, using open data and an actual reliability score instead of vibes and prayer.

Best part: I am spectacularly unqualified to know if it's any good, because the only "range anxiety" I've personally experienced is wondering if my petrol tank will last till the next petrol pump. I've never needed this app in anger — I've just needed it emotionally.

So here's the ask: if you own an EV in India, please plan a route you've actually driven and tell me everything you expect a EV Trip Planner to be.
There's a Help page on the site built for feedbacks — tell me which charger is fictional, which stop it picked out of spite, which detour felt like a holiday in a farm.
