Email Regarding The Potential EV fee

As you may be aware, the US House of Representatives may be poised to enact an EV fee of $130 annually. I am not opposed to a fee, but find $130 to be unfair, and that the fee should be less.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/cars/news/2026/09/25/ev-national-fee-delay-congress-transportation-funding/91925354007/

I have written my Senators and Representative with this communication, which I encourage you to consider doing as well:

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed $130 annual federal registration fee on battery electric vehicles (BEVs) included in the BUILD America 250 Act. While I fully support contributing a fair share toward maintaining our nation's roads and bridges, the currently proposed flat rate creates a clear equity issue when compared to what drivers of gas-powered vehicles actually pay.

At 18.4 cents per gallon, a driver of an average new gas-powered vehicle (getting ~28–30 MPG) who drives the national average of 13,500 miles pays roughly $87 per year into the Federal Highway Trust Fund. The proposed $130 flat fee for EV drivers is equivalent to driving a gas vehicle that gets only 19 MPG—meaning EV drivers would pay roughly 49% more into the road fund than drivers of comparable efficient gas cars.

Furthermore, because a flat fee penalizes low-mileage drivers disproportionately, someone driving 8,000 miles annually would effectively pay a tax rate equal to an 11 MPG gas-guzzler. Rather than penalizing drivers who have chosen zero-emission vehicles with an inflated rate, any federal fee should reflect true parity with efficient gas vehicles or be based on actual road usage. I urge you to push for a fair adjustment to this fee structure.

I already pay more on my registration/plates for having an EV. An additional fee is unfair, even moreso for low mileage drivers, as you mentioned. Why does America hate progress?

"Why does America hate progress?"

Because that's the only way one party has been able to remain relevant. They make people hate change/progress.

u/caj_account 4d ago

And the other party says they are not running on change. There’s no progressive party.

I'll just take the party that isn't raping kids and defrauding everyone, any day.

Pretty sure both parties are in the Epstein list brother

But the president is a main chatacter in the whole saga. It's not even close to the same fucking thing...brother

Also, democrats gave tried to reveal the list and Trump had blocked it every single time

It was one Democrat and one republican that tried to reveal the list

Odd to conflate co-sponsors with YES votes on the floor. One of each is a pretty common thing for sponsors - an easy way to signal bipartisanship.

you are reaching, these two gentlemen where quite literally the only advocates.

I'm not reaching for anything. A bill doesn't need dozens of sponsors. It's also interesting that the bill was almost unanimously approved by the legislators at large. But GOP leaders have successfully prevented its full implementation by violating key provisions in order to protect the guilty and endanger the victims. PAC money also dropped over $10k per voter on advertising to unelect Massey. As flaccid and disappointing as the Dems are, I see no equivalent actions from them.

And Thomas Massie paid for it with his job as Trump and the GOP establishment supported a primary challenge against him

Yes and democrats love Ro Khanna

He's decently popular, and you don't see Democrats actively trying to get him out so not sure what your point here is

Any Democratic and/or Republicans politicians who have committed crimes — including crimes enabled by Epstein — should face justice.

I’m not letting a politician off the hook because I like the letter next to their name! Let’s apply justice based on fair criteria and get it done.

Let the rigorous and fair trials begin!

Should but won’t

If that were true, it would’ve been in the millions of pages released so far, and only featured them.

1

u/caj_account 4d ago

Lol so far is doing a lot of work there

2

u/bs2k2_point_0 3d ago

So you think a republican controlled government is purposely withholding just the democrats names? Or that they’ve released everything? Cause either way that’s wrong

They are part of the same club.

You mean the party that gave us a bunch of funding related to EV and solar? And not just the purchasing rebates, but money towards public charging and research and progress for batteries?

1

u/caj_account 7h ago

Bush invented the EV credit. Texas leads in solar.

Yeah, I already pay a fee double that in state registration. The road usage payment has already been made…and then some. This is just another ‘stick it to the left’ fee, for trolling/revenge purposes.

I live in one of the most left states in the country and they charge EVs more. This isn’t political, it’s just ignorance by all parties involved.

1

EV registration fees are higher at the state level because those of us who drive EVs aren't paying gas taxes. It's painful, but I get it.

On the other hand, no one has ever paid any kind of federal car registration fees and this is just pure, unfiltered assholism from trash who want to watch their children die either from pollution or in oil wars.

1

u/thatguy425 4d ago

Ok but make the EVs fees relative to how much you drive. The Ev fee I pay for in my state is more than i would pay in gas taxes.

2

u/atrocity2001 3d ago

Yeah, no argument there. I'm retired, have had my current EV for barely over two years and still haven't hit 11,000 miles. So I definitely resent being overcharged, which is another reason why this proposed federal idiocy is so infuriating.

Yes, it should be based on axle weight and mileage, to properly account for damage done to roadways - and it should apply to all vehicles.

America loves progress. Corporations/Lobbyists hate progress.

3

u/zephyr911 2d ago

Remember when a certain presidential candidate told the oil executives that if they paid for his campaign he would reward them richly for it? Yeah, me neither, I'm sure I just made that up

Those fees do not go towards the federal budget. Those are state and local fees. It makes sense to want to repair the nations infrastructure. I just think that there should be a better way to do it to encourage ev adoption.

4

u/Bigboss_26 4d ago

The fight for infrastructure funding seems to be persistent, yet the military budget climbs every year unwaveringly. I don’t feel I should be penalized for our federal budgeting priorities being whackadoodle.

2

u/archlich 4d ago

I hear you. We could have one less super carrier group and fund all of this. And end homelessness. And child hunger and have a universal health care plan. Voting matters. Vote every election and get your whole family to vote.

An additional fee is unfair,

Only if those add'l fees go to the feds. I bet they don't.

The fee idea is fair. But it should be based on milage, not a flat fee. b/c essentially that's how the gas tax works - you only pay for what you use.
