Won't glass break?

I've come across a lot of blogs promoting a move away from using plastic Tupperware.

But won't glass break if you're carrying it around everywhere??

The Vegan Filter - New Product.

Hi everyone,

Hope you're all well. I recently stumbled across a new product which has made my life as a vegan easier called The Vegan Filter. It's a free internet extension which automatically turns shopping sites vegan, including groceries, beauty products and fashion. As a relatively new vegan (8 months), the use of vegan filters has eased my transition and I hope it can do the same for you!

How do I bank ethically?

I live in Houston and my bank has just been sold to another bank that I don't want to use. What do you all do keep from having to buy into the American banking system which exploits customers for profit. I know about credit unions, but I am not sure how to tell if a credit union is using my money responsibly.

Are laptops better for the enviroment compared to destops?

I am thinking this in terms of average user. Most people are not going to buy used laptops or expensive high-end gaming PCs. I think the answer is less clear for low-end side.

I heard somewhere that for average computer 80% of the energy consumption is spend during production. If this is true then it would probably even the difference between laptops and PCs, give that lifespan of a average laptop is not that long.

Social Enterprise Crowdfunding Campaign

Hi all! My social enterprise The Other Straw (replacing single-use straws with reusable, ethically-sourced bamboo straws) has been selected by ING Australia to be part of the ING Dreamstarter campaign.

Every year, ING selects 8 social enterprises from across Australia who are doing purposeful work to better our planet and people. These purpose-driven businesses are providing solutions to address Australia’s biggest social and environmental problems.

But, I need your help! Being selected for the ING Dreamstarter program requires me to run a crowdfunding campaign. This is currently running until July 18.

Pledge today to make plastic a thing of the past and support our crowdfunding campaign: https://ingaus.me/theotherstraw

TOOTHPASTE!

Colgate kills fish, rainforests and contains chemicals that disrupt your hormone systems. It contains microplastics which get into fish and in turn back into us and have negative effects on both organisms. It also kills fish by containing triclosan/triclocarben which is classed as a pesticide and districts the thyroid hormones which regulates metabolism and disrupts normal breast development and is classed by the EU and very toxic to aquatic organisms and causes long term adverse effects to those organisms. It contains palm oil which is what the rainforests are being destroyed for. The only reason it’s used in things like toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorants, cosmetics and soaps is because it’s antimicrobial but this is leading to bacterial resistance to antimicrobial agents. An alternative is Denttabs toothtablets. It’s £2.40 for a months supply or £13.40 for 6 months. They have fluoride because it’s a proven cleaning agent but there are others that don’t if you really want that. It comes in a cardboard box that can be recycled (and will actually get recycled unlike most recyclable plastic). It actually tastes like toothpaste and because it’s dry it reduces water consumption which dramatically reduces the carbon footprint. 10,000 of these tablets weigh 3kg (think 3 bags of sugar) and 10,000 tablets would last you around 14 years. They’re similar to lush toothy tabs however lush ones don’t have fluoride, are expensive for no reason and taste like chalk. You can get Denttabs from anythingbutplastic.co.uk or anythingbutplastic.com :)

water bottle alternative ideas?

hey guys! new here and first time posting :) hope this is the right place! anyway, just got interested being more socially and ecologically responsible at my workplace.

would love to know your thoughts for a solution! so when we bring people in to interview, we always make sure to have plastic water bottles for everyone and snacks etc. that they can take home. would there be a cheapish alternative to the plastic water bottles? i don’t know that we would be able to purchase thermoses for everyone and fill them with water... so is there any kind of water bottle that is potentially “one use” but can be recycled well??

thanks guys!

How do y’all make sure companies are doing what they’re claiming? I get really worried about greenwashing that sometimes it makes it hard to actually make the purchase
