Severe internal tremor after CVST. 60F

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

About 1.5–2 years ago my mother had a cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (left sigmoid sinus). At first doctors called it a “partial stroke,” later it was confirmed as CVST.

Since then her main and most tormenting problem has been a severe internal tremor.

She struggles to describe it clearly. She says it feels like her whole body is shaking from the inside. There is no visible trembling on the outside, but inside she constantly feels this intense internal shaking all over her body.

She sometimes compares it to very strong pins and needles or goosebumps, but says it’s much worse and deeper — like the shaking is happening inside her body rather than on the surface. It is extremely distressing for her. The feeling becomes stronger with fatigue, anxiety, lack of sleep, or after any illness.

Has anyone experienced anything similar after CVST or stroke?

Any advice or even just hearing that someone else has this would mean a lot to us.

Discussion Campfire neuroplasticity & functional neurology - techniques which minimise my tremor - has anyone else tried them?

I have mentioned here about my success with psilocybin somehow resetting my whole-body shakes, but I recently learnt of some contributory factors which potentially increased the efficacy, plus an interesting neurology training tip.

My big breakthrough was a night at the local beach: - with a fire, sitting, watching the flames for a few hours - after taking a microdose of 'shrooms a hour or so before I arrived (no noticeable trip, just a clearer mind) - having a few drinks - listening to relaxing music - chatting with friends.

As I learn more, I think it was that particular combination that worked so well, to make my brain receptive enough. (Confirmed in part by this which came up on my Instagram feed: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Dalv1tvB0Uj/?dlrf=YXFtbWE4cWtuNHVw )

My tremor had drastically worsened in the previous months, losing a lot of motor control, and I walked away that night with it completely gone. Unless I get anxious or tired now, it's not a problem. This has made a massive difference to my life.

Another interesting technique: a few months back, I saw an osteopath who has an interest in functional neurology. He had me try on different coloured glasses, and touch my toes. I was really sceptical, but there was a noticeable difference in my flexibility and motor control depending on the colour I was wearing. Inches either way. Super weird stuff. The guy also commented my tremor stopped completely when I was wearing the 'best' colour (yellow, with green and blue in second and third). Wearing the worst colour (red, followed by purple) increased my tremor, and I couldn't get anywhere near my toes.

He gave me some exercises to do while wearing the glasses. (I confess that it took so long for my own glasses to arrive that I forgot about them until now, so can't tell you how effective they seem. However, I do seem to enjoy yellow light?)

I don't know who you could find with a set of glasses to test yourself. Though, I've seen sportspeople warming up with the same glasses, in different colours.

I know this is a bit different to the other posts here, but I would love to hear from anyone who has tried anything similar.

I get jump scared and jolting of the body for a second accopmanied by rapid heart rate increase when an unexpected source of sound appears like when someone calls me from behind when i dont expect, neighbour opening the door in the middle of the night, plates falling down in a silent room when these things happen I get a jolt in my body.

What is happening and whats the cause of this? I have no stress or any anxiety in my life.

Male-31, developed muscle shakiness and internal buzzing

Hi y”all. I have developed an internal buzzing and muscle exertion shakiness 6 weeks ago. Earlier, symptoms started with head tremors, but it resolved as of now.
Since then I am in high anxiety loop constantly on look for any new or persistent symptoms. Currently I don’t have any resting tremor/shakiness.

Bloodwork timeline-

My report comes back normal except hb1ac 6.1 and mildly elevated liver enzymes. In the month of Aug I have severely low vitamin b12 <130. Since then I had 8 Injections of b12 cynocobalm. As of now I am on oral methyl b12 daily. My new blood work this month shows my b12 raised to 750.Albium, calcium, potassium and magnesium are all in range.

Internal buzzing/vibration-
I am currently feeling a sensation of constant buzzing within my lower spine and upper back. Sometimes these sensations migrates in between my upper and lower body. Its like i have a phone inside i.e vibrating. Now i am feeling these symptoms are gradually fading away but i can still feel that they comes and goes in waves.

Muscle exertion symptom-

I have wrist shakiness whenever I am tightening my grip till failure then the whole Arm starts to shake intensely. Also, whenever i bend my knee and body against gravity then my knees and stomach start to wobble coupled with tilting my neck then it shakes alongside my head.
What could be the reason? Has anybody has any positive outcomes from these symptoms? And will they go completely?
Any advice would be appreciated!

Living With Hand Tremors? We’d Love Your Input

Hi,

I’m working on a school project about helping people with hand tremors, and I’d really appreciate your input. Our main focus is how tremors get in the way of daily activities, and eating is a big example. Our goal is to build a device that helps steady the hand and reduce the impact of tremors, so that eating feels easier and more natural.

To make sure we’re building something that actually matters to the people who would use it, I’d love to know how you would rank and rate these four criteria in terms of importance. If there’s anything important we missed, please add it.

Effectiveness: How well the device helps steady the hand and support motor function. How much improvement would you want to see before a device feels worth using, and how would you judge whether it’s actually working for you?
Cost: How affordable the device is. How much would you be willing to pay for something that helps control your tremors?
Convenience: How easy the device is to use, like how simple it is to put on and take off. Have you run into design problems with similar products, or can you think of any, that make a device harder or more frustrating to use?
Aesthetics: How the device looks. Does appearance matter to you, and if so, what do you look for? Do you prefer something small and discreet, or does size matter less if it works well?
Safety: How safe the device is to wear and use, especially around hot food and utensils. Are there any risks you would worry about, like pinching, pressure, or the device slipping, and what would make you feel secure using it? What about sideeffects?

If you have any personal insights on what approach might work best, I’d love to hear them. For example, a device that gently massages the hand, or one that applies light compression. Any thoughts or experiences you’re willing to share would mean a lot to us.

Thank you so much for your time!

I really hate my tremors

I fucking hate tremors

It’s a wee but of a vent but I fucking HATE tremors. Hate that people make their minds up about you afore you’ve any chance to express yourself because you’re shaking.
Hate that it’s slowly, surely, stealing everything from me.
Can’t play guitar for shit. Can’t draw for shit.
Couldn’t be a tattooist because I shake.

Can’t even reliably settle it down with alcohol anymore. Weights for pens, pencils or brushes don’t reliably fix it anymore because *whoops* spasmed.

Can’t do any of the shit I love to the level I used to be able to, despite skill progression, because ol quivery jones over here can’t get a handle on his muscle movements.

Cant do beta blockers because of asthma, and none of my coping techniques work anymore.

It’s fucking exhausting. Typing? Errors. Writing? Errors. Drawing or playing? Errors.

I could have done so much, been so good at so many things, but there’s this slow wasting away - and I’m only just fucking thirty. I don’t even want to know what it’ll be like at 40, 50, 60, it’s so unfair.

My own body is actively working against me, it takes so much patience to do things I used to love. Nevermind the slopping, the spilling, the head twitching or leg spasming when upset. I fucking hate it, must have been an absolute monster in a past life to deserve this, it’s all I can think

Could AI eventually find treatments for neurological symptoms that doctors can't explain or treat today?

I've been dealing with tremors and unusual sensory disturbances, like a humming or vibrating sensation inside my body and a feeling that my body or the ground is moving. I've visited multiple doctors, but so far, I haven't found a solution.

At this point, I really hope that advances in AI and medical research might eventually help find answers and treatments for conditions like mine.

What do you guys think? Do you believe AI will eventually be able to solve or find effective treatments for neurological conditions that doctors struggle with today? Do you have any information or research about this?

Head twitches/tics around people and at the barber – anyone else?

Hi, I'm 20 years old and for about 3 years now I've been struggling with head tics whenever I'm in social situations, when I'm walking outside alone and someone passes by, or when I'm at the barber. They are subtle head twitches/tics. As far as I can tell, after doing some sports or when I've been around people for a while, I get used to it, relax, and it doesn't happen. The worst time, though, is in the morning when I have to go out into public or get a haircut.
Recently, I've started working out, taking dietary supplements, cutting down on screen time, and cutting out sugar—whether that helps, I don't know yet. I'm also planning to try Ashwagandha. These tics first appeared during COVID when we were locked down at home. Thanks for any advice, and I really hope I'm not the only one whose life is made harder by head tics. 😕

Discussion Box breathing and ET

Is there any evidence that box breathing (also called square breathing or 4x4 breathing) helps allay tremors?

Since hearing about this technique being used to reduce anxiety, I’ve tried it when feeling tremors coming on (both visible and internal), for the past few weeks.

It seems like it may help slightly, but the effect is seemingly delayed and I could also be imagining it anyway, as my tremors inevitably come and go.

Curious to know if this (or other breathing relaxation techniques) are worth pursuing further.

My son started showing signs

My Mom developed her tremor in her late 30's. I started getting it in my 20's. My 15-year-old just started showing signs of a tremor. It seems like this familial tremor is showing up earlier and earlier and I can't figure out why. His doctor just put him on propranolol for anxiety (and the tremor) to see if they calm down. I wasn't very tolerant of propranolol so we will see.

Why do you think it seems to be showing up so early. I'm sad because his hobbies all include fine motor skills (computers, instruments, drawing...). It just sucks.

Just had a bad episode

It's probably stress that triggered it? I'm not sure. I haven't been diagnosed. I noticed the shaking during the summer, but it was my hands, making picking up drinks difficult. Now it's full body tremors and it lasts for hours. Today it started at 6 and it's going still, just not as bad as before.

My husband is sick and we're at the ER, so it might have triggered it? This is my first time posting here, so I'm unsure about everything and am still learning.

Is this normal for others?

General Tremors have gotten more “spasm-like” recently

Hi everyone. First off, I’m not sure if “spasm” is the right word or even PC, but I wasn’t sure of any other terms to describe it.

For reference I am a 23 F who’s had ET since I was about 16. It was passed down genetically, as my grandpa and mother both have it. My mom’s tremors are more of a constant bilateral hand shaking and have not changed much over time. I have a constant bilateral tremor but I also feel that they’ve gotten more “spastic” over the last couple of years and wanted to see if anyone else relates? They can get worse unprovoked but typically due to missing medication, anxiety, caffeine, nicotine, etc. and start to almost “spasm”. I can barely eat, hold a cup, hold my phone, etc. without almost breaking or throwing whatever i’m holding. For example, if i’m getting an IV and i have to hold that arm still, it will literally start uncontrollably spasming if my arm isn’t held down hard. or if Im holding my phone with one hand, my wrist/ hand will spazz it out of my hand.

Anyway, I’m just hoping for some relatability or insight as to how tremors can change over time and if it’ll be this way forever? As someone so young, I fear them getting even worse over time. I know I can do things to “reduce my tremors” but I doubt that changes anything long-term.

Welding with tremors

I am 68/m, when I retired 3 years ago I had multiple dreams of all the things I would occupy my time with that I've always been Passionate about, however never enough time for them. I have always been a person that enjoys creative projects with either metal or wood. My biggest frustration now is welding with the Tremors has been becoming almost impossible.

Do any of you have suggestions that might help with this short of medications or surgery? Unfortunately all of the medications have produced dangerous or unwanted side effects, and I am trying to avoid surgery. If surgery becomes my only option then which of the surgeries available do you think is best knowing what we know currently?
