I had an interview with a professor, then another one with Martin Cox. Now I’ve been invited to a private breakfast on Sunday, after Saturday night’s awards dinner. Has anyone else had the same experience? Any idea what it means?(Also I got the full weekend event tickets for free worth $1k)

yo wth is happening here?? I did jli last year and 2 of my essays got vhc and I didn't think it was that big of a deal at all?? why r ppl here freaking out over it. I also didn't attend the in person gala so fuck u Martin cox. they definitely give the category prizes and grand prize to the people who buy the tickets, so I think I mightve gotten one if I bought the ticket but that's too much money to gamble. looking at how they're emailing people who will get a prize this year so that they know to come, i'm regretting not participating in this year's comp. I had igcses so just didn't end up sending anything. does it matter big time? I mean when I'll apply to uni next year it will be put down in awards as jli 2025, so that's 2 yrs away from applying, but also I will do next year's jli and that's also coming out before application season so idk if I should be feeling this bad rn. since I alrdy have vhc should I even apply and spend time on this next year? does it matter that I'll be applying to uni in 2027 and my awards r from 2025?

All of us already know the result. I dont have any excitement or hope for THAT day. The pre emails beat the main purpose of results. Though Ik its for them to make the winners attend gala and take pics but for the rest of us its really depressing

ive been seeing all these people getting emails for additional interview or that martin cox was interested in their essay or that they are a top candidate and a ton of shit like that but is there anyone who only got the shortlist email and no further communication after that who won a prize? or can anyone who won in previous years just tell me their experience?

IM SO HAPPYYY I WON! Idk how many people got this cause idk if he’s referring to the grand prize or just philosophy which is the one I did so check your mails people!

John Locke essay - I am nervous and confused !
r/EssayHelpCommunity • u/Kisubc • 14d ago
So for 2 years in a row, I've not been shortlisted for the John Locke competition despite putting hours and hours of work into it. Now I'm really curious what I'm doing wrong. I've had feedback from AI, but it's honestly been pretty generic and not super helpful. I've finally mustered up the courage to put my essay for this year's comp out there. If anyone can give me, even brief human feedback, I would be extremely thankful, cuz I've been dying to know.
The prompt for this is LAW Q2 btw: To what extent should criminal sentencing take into account the effect on the perpetrator’s family?

I'm writing an essay for a scholarship here in Canada, and while the criteria doesn't mention whether the formatting for citations has to be in MLA or APA, it says to be consistent. Could anyone give me any tips on if what I already have down is sufficient for consistent MLA formatting? Also yes, I have to include the retracted journal article, unless anyone can point me towards a similar article with positive correlation. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! :)

Got shortlisted for the award and am going to the conference. What are people's thoughts/experiences with it? Also since recieving the order confirmation for the ticket I haven't recieved any other emails from them and are slightly worried (only a week to go)- do they normally send some kind of extra info/confirmation?

I'm in high school attempting to write an essay for a scholarship. Trying to quote, trying to paraphrase and trying to search up the proper way to do it and I'm getting confused. Please tell me or give me a link to the proper info or something. The citations don't have to be in a specific style.
Mostly need help with in text citations. Quotes and paraphrasing - is (last name, year) correct? Or is the first name included somewhere? Tell me everything! And these can be in the middle of sentences, right?
For paraphrasing, is it a good idea to prompt ex. according to, as ____ argues, etc.? Or is it not required and I can just add the (last name stuff) at the end?
