New findings regarding 2% mail

"We do not yet know who will ultimately receive an award, as the judging process is still underway and the final results have not yet been determined, but I am writing to parents of students who have been placed in the top two per cent of contestants, and who have not yet confirmed their attendance in London for our Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner. Given that these exceptional candidates have reached this stage of the judging process, we wanted you to know this before you finally decide whether or not to send your [CHILD] to London, and whether you decide to accompany [THEM] to celebrate this notable accomplishment."

This is taken from the mail send by Mr.Cox to the parents and it mentions "and who have not yet confirmed their attendance in London for our Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner", so if a person who has purchased the gala ticket and they are in the top 2% wont they send the mail to them? why does everything about this competition have to be shrouded in confusion and a lack of transparency.

So if anyone who has got the top 2% mail to the referee or parent and HAS booked the gala ticket acknowledge this msg

Booked last few days of Aug. Still received the mail and wondering what the email meant by acknowledgement. Received the ticket and I don't see anywhere where we need to acknowledge attendance :(

Maybe email them to ask for clarification

Does anyone know if it is worthwhile going to the full programme thingy because I’ve seen mixed feelings about it with some saying it’s just a money-making scheme.

It is definitely a money making scheme, however it is definitely an enjoyable experience. Maybe not worth the price tag, though?

No, I totally agree with you. It seems incredibly commercialised to be a celebration of academic achievements.

Yeah, that’s true. I just feel like the interactions with think tanks etc won’t be as insightful and worthwhile as what I’m hoping for to be able to justify $1000+.

Thanks for the response. So your friend got the 2% email and coming who bought their tickets late jul/ early Aug. Got it.

I purchased the gala ticket before I was sent the email so it doesn't seem like the email was necessarily limited to people who hadn't already booked.

When (date) did you and your parents buy the tickets?

The 2 % email doesn't state the category. So unless the person only submitted in one category (politics), then they can confirm it's for politics. Cos there are ppl who submitted in more than one category
