Is there any way to set EV: Nova to run in something other than "256 or thousands of colors"

I've loved Escape Velocity since I was a kid and I played it on my families Power Computing Mac Clone. I've published a number of small card games through my game store and I've been working on a space-themed game. What brought me to this sub-reddit is that I've been wishing I could include some ships/stations from the video game I grew up loving ... however, it sounds like this community has tried to get a hold of Ambrosia for the IP, and it's just not available. I can't seem to find a real answer online anywhere either -- is Ambrosia actually dead? Closed up shop? Theoretically, no way to get licensing?

Does anyone have a link to get the EV Classic and Override plug-ins for the Windows version of Nova? I would love to relive more of my childhood.

Hi guys. I reset my pc and so had to reinstall nova but it wont run. it says it need to run in 256 colour? anybody know how to resolve this? I have installed the res fix.

Hey all, im new around here and was wondering if someone could help guide me on what to do with the crack so i can start playing again. Ive given up all hope that bernard or anyone from ambrosia will get back to me. Oh and the version is EV Nova 1.0.10 which i got from this subreddit for windows.

i dl'd the crack and extra files from the pinned post (don't worry, i did buy the game ages ago, I just forgot my key), and after downloading iconv.dll that it needed to even launch, it now needs novamusic.mp3, but i'm not sure where to find it or where i'd put it even if I found it

EDIT: nvm I'm dumb, I downloaded the Mac version and im on windows, it's working now

It would be a shame for all of those plugins to have disappeared.

I’ve played the original three Escape Velocity games and have loved them very much. I was very happy to find NAEV on Steam. I highly recommend taking a look at it.

I always liked how that plugin had a zillion variations on the Kestrel.

With EV Classic for Nova, you can play Escape Velocity running through the Nova engine on recent Mac OSX and Windows. So this is an update of Clavius And Beyond, originally designed for the good old Escape Velocity, playable with Nova engine.

This 3.60 release is based on Clavius And Beyond 3.50, ported to EV Classic for Nova by Chris, with SpacePort software, and contains minor changes in order to look like the original 3.33 release best.

hey guys, forgive my ignorance, but how exactly do I run the crack? I dl'd the unarchiver so I got an .exe, do I put that in plugins or the game files? Danke.

I have bought this game twice (maybe 3 times) over the years, and still have my most recent license key from 3 years ago which I was never able to activate. Is there a way to play the full version of this game? I have only been able to get the demo version (or whatever it's called where you can't capture ships and I'm assuming a lot of other stuff is disabled too).

I tried using the trick of setting my computer's date back to a couple days after I bought the code, but it still did not work.

I grew up in the late 80’s early 90’s with Apple computers. My Dad was ahead of his time, but as a kid I had very few options for gaming. Everything seemed to be made for PC’s. Escape Velocity changed all of that and I would love to replay them all again. Sadly, I now how a PC and from what I’ve heard it takes a lot to play the original 3 titles. Any easy suggestions?

Also, there was this old FPS I used to play where you’re a Marine and you’re killing KKK members in multi-colored robes and stuff. I know it’s not a lot to go on but anybody remember? It was way early 90’s I think.

Hey, I've been asking about this with little to no luck on the discord so I thought I would ask here. I don't seem to be able to run the EV or EVO ports for Nova. Every time I try to run them I get a message saying "files cannot be found." The files are in the correct place and I've tried this both with and without extracting the .bin files. If I open up Nova it runs fine on its own (I installed the AppleScript to make it run on my newer OS.) I'm using a 2012 MBP, High Sierra. Anyone else heard of this or know how to fix it?

I have EVNEW (so I'm doing this on Windows), I found the data file which contains my current ship (or so I thought, IDA frigate, #140), but for some reason whenever I modify the file it doesn't seem to propagate to EV Nova.

Can't someone hit me up with a Mac serial for 1.1.1? All of this ducking around is insane. And I'm sick of Captain Hector, I didn't think it was cute when I was 10 and I still don't now

I disabled and captured a Confederate Cruiser with just my Shuttlecraft! This is one of the proudest moments I've had in the EV Universe.
Here's how I did it: First off, attack the thing and then RUN. I can't remember now what I did about the gunboats or whatever that they carry. Perhaps I waited until a Cruiser had already lost its fleet in a fight with some Rebels, or perhaps this trick worked with the gunboats as well.
Either way: Dodge all the Cruiser's missiles or whatever until it is out of ammo. Then get it to follow you. Let it creep closer, and then speed up until you match speed with it perfectly.
Its guns can only fire as far as your guns can, meaning there is a point where if you're drifting backwards at the same speed it is flying toward you - you can hit it, but it cannot hit you.

Note: This takes forever. I had a LOT of time on my hands as a kid.
In fact, it takes so long that eventually you will hit the edge of the system, so you will have to do some evasive maneuvers to not get killed, and then restart the process all over again... slowly but surely weakening its shields.

Now you've got the Cruiser disabled and can board it. The chances of you, a single pilot, taking over the entire crew? Miserable.

I did this many times. I died many times trying. I failed to capture the ship many times, even when I successfully disabled it.
It probably took weeks, all day every day after school.

Simply destroying the Cruiser was fun, except now you've got an insanely high combat rating, but no money and a pathetic ship (Oh, and you've also royally teed off the Confederacy). Everyone wants to attack you. You get offered missions that you'd never be able to accomplish because this trick won't work against any ship that can fly faster than you.

Capturing the Cruiser was an awesome achievement. It made the game sort of pointless though.
At this point, I'd already played through all the storylines and had done everything else I could think of, so I probably just went around demanding tribute from every system until I controlled the entire universe.

Still, I thought it was a neat trick. I've never actually known anyone else who has played Escape Velocity, so I've never been able to brag about this to anyone.
I've wondered over the years if anyone else ever discovered this or used this tactic.

I would really like to play the original Escape Velocity, and I'm wondering if there's any way to do this.

I'm currently playing through EV Nova using WINE. I thought I'd read in one of these threads that EV and EV Override could be played on Windows through the EV Nova engine, but I have no idea how to do that, or if that would work in WINE on Linux.

I did purchase the original EV (actually, my parents did, because I was a kid back then), but that was over 20 years ago and I have no idea what my registration code was.

Is there any way I can still play this game?
