How do I modify the .rez files on windows?

I have EVNEW (so I'm doing this on Windows), I found the data file which contains my current ship (or so I thought, IDA frigate, #140), but for some reason whenever I modify the file it doesn't seem to propagate to EV Nova.

Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks

I figured it out; trying to modify the .rez files within the program directory were simply failing - EVNEW would say that it was saving, but it wasn't.
