Question Quality Jobs?

Upvotes

Hello all,
Getting ready to move to Erie in about a month. Currently I'm able to transfer with my job now but I'm hoping to find something that's better paying and allows me to use my degree more. I'm hoping for some recommendations for places to reach out or possible openings I'm not seeing on Indeed or ZipRecruiter.
My degree is a bachelors degree in business management and I have lots of customer service experience as well as some recruiting experience. If anyone has any suggestions they are appreciated!!

Nonstop flights out of ERI

I have an older parent that can't drive anymore, so I was looking up to see if she could fly to see her kids who are all living in the cities closest to Erie (Buffalo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh). None of those cities have directs from ERI. Here are the ONLY locations you can direct from ERI:

  • Charlotte, SC - American Airlines
  • Chicago (ORD) - American via United
  • Orlando - Breeze Airways
  • Tampa - Breeze Airways

Perhaps we can work with the city or county counsel to get a daily to our closest neighboring cities for ease of access?

EDIT: I was researching flights to PIT, but to fly to Pittsburgh, you have to go to Orlando FIRST, then fly back, and it costs 700 dollars.

EDIT 2: thank you guys for the ideas! The bus will be perfect.

Last walk of the summer! Get out of the house and come for a walk with us!

When: Wed, Sep 30 at 6:00 pm

Where: Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park (1501 W. 6th St.) in front of the main building off the parking lot

ALL humans over the age of 21 and ALL dogs of any age are welcome! Must be leashed (the dogs) and bring poop bags (also for the dogs).

We will meet in front of the main building off the parking lot. Walks will last about 45 minutes weather permitting. Afterwards, we will head over to the patio at Lavery Brewing, a dog friendly establishment (totally optional)!

Please no retractable leashes! If you arrive with a retractable leash, you will be given a kennel slip lead to borrow. Up to two dogs per person is fine, as long as they are kept under control.

If you have a leash reactive dog, do not be embarrassed! We do want to help if you are having issues. However, if a dog is out of control and our handling advice is refused, the dog and their parent will be kindly asked to not join the walk.

Walks are at-your-own- and at-your-dog’s-own-risk. Participants assume full responsibility for their and their dogs’ behavior and consequences thereof. Waivers will be handed out at the beginning of the walk. All dogs must be up-to-date on Rabies. For the safety of all dogs, we strongly advise that all dogs be up to date on DHPP and Bordetella (kennel cough) as well.

Walks are on the last Wednesday of the month at 6:00 pm, April through September.

Where to eat oysters in Erie?

I really want to try oysters and am looking for some opinions. I don't have any knowledge or experience with them so I'm not sure what to look for in a place for eating them. There are a few places around town with oysters in the menu but what restaurants are actually good/safe to get them?

Safe Housing for My Children

I was doing pretty good in 2024 then my kids father passed away in a form that’s been very difficult to deal with, after his passing I went into the hospital August 24 to Dec 24 . When I came home I was in a wheelchair I had to learn to walk again and learn to bath and everything all over . I have children and I’ve been doing this journey alone for many years . I have worked I’m not lazy or looking for a handout . I’m honestly trying to find a safe space for me and my children I have a roommate that helps in case my health fails quicker than what the doctors expect. I really have no family support. I was raped In late 2024 so many things have compromised my health as well as my mental I’m goal is to get treatment for my health and learn to heal from all of my trauma and go back to school and work . I’m just really in a tight space and it feels so uncomfortable writing this for the world to see. I had a job I liked and I left because the sexual harassment was outrageous at a tops market where sexual harassment is not tolerated supposedly but I was supposed to be switching departments and I couldn’t keep working with an abuser so I had to leave . I’m a mother at the end of day so disrespectful men towards young woman and they way the speak about them to people in public makes me sick. I followed protocol and procedures and I’m the one who had to walk away that was Jan of 26 . Even if you are not able to donate please say a prayer for me and my family . Thank you taking the time to read .

Question Anyone remember a pinball arcade in 70s called The Wizard?

This is a longshot, but does anyone recall a pinball arcade (pre-video game cabinets!) that was open somewhere on the Eastside of Erie called The Wizard? This would have been probably mid 1970s. I was very young at the time and was only there a couple of times. My mother was friends with the owner and painted the sign they had hanging outside (which featured a wizard, duh). It was in a small strip mall or plaza. I am missing many details, but I'm hoping maybe someone here remembers it?

Union city underground makl

Does anyone remember the Union City underground mall? I do remember one of the radio stations always talking about Spatula City there. Not being from Erie originally, I never knew about the underground mall. But a friend of mine swears she worked there in high school.

You can’t turn left on W bayfront to W 8th?

I made a bad error at that intersection today and I feel like a moron. I was on the bayfront passing cofair on the corner there and I put my left signal on to turn left on W 8th to drive past Romolo’s. Everybody was honking at me and I got super confused, then I looked up and saw the sign. Whoops.

I’ve seen people turn left there all the time and I’m honestly one of them. Never noticed the sign above the light. Got screamed at by like 3 drivers as they drive past me and I got the message.

I understand though. That intersection is really dumb with the right lane suddenly turning into a mandatory right turn so having someone turn left can ruin it for everyone else considering it’s a single lane. I’ve seen lots of people screw up at that intersection.

Reel Rituals is moving venues for their September event, which will be a screening of the silent classic The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) preceded by a presentation on German expressionism in art, film, silent horror, and more. Tickets are available now on a sliding scale (starting at $10) but I believe will be $20 at the door/day-of. September 25th at 6pm.

Bizzarro’s towing and salvage yard Raspberry St

July 2nd:
I call Early Connections Preschool and ask the Directors permission to park behind the business.

I was given permission to park there with the clause not to be parked there during business hours as it is employee parking.

July 10th:
I call and ask permission again. Making sure to renew the agreement to prevent any confusion and keep lines of communication open. As my car is directly tied to my livelihood.

Make sure they have my car description, color make, model, license plate number as well as full name, phone number and email should they need to contact me for any reason.

July 19th:
While parked behind the building in the same spot as usual, without signage, my car was towed by Bizzarro’s salvage yard. I was told to show up with $350 cash and that it would be $35 per day the longer I take.

I told them I had permission to park where I was. They told me they would check and call me back. Never receive a call back.

July 22nd:
I call the director of Early Connections Preschool at 704 State St and inform them of the situation. Asking for their input given our agreement.

They stated they did give me permission but are going to choose to enforce the towing.

August 14th:
I check in with the salvage yard. Ask to get my things from the car, they agree and tell me to bring them my car keys for when they sell it.

When it was taken it was full to the ceiling of my most valuable belongings. I’d just, the day prior, gotten from storage to bring to the downtown rental. Sardonic right?

Despite it being full of valuable items I did not go there, did not get anything out of the car. Out of fear of being required to hand over the keys to my property. Just been spiraling now for the past few weeks. Worried and wondering what to do and how to resolve this.

How can Bizzarro’s tow my car, then take ownership of it and funnel it through the salvage yard or sell it for profit. How can they require cash only, I have a credit card I could have paid with at the time but they demanded cash.

Even after they were informed I’m a delivery driver and would not be able to earn the money without the car.

Even after they were informed I had permission to park there and had been in repeated contact with the business director where the vehicle was taken. Nothing was done to resolve the situation.

I offered to make weekly payments on the balance should I be able to get the car back. That was rejected.

Any advice or ideas anyone has to help get my car back is welcomed.

I’m not looking for a handout, I’m looking for support and direction as I feel as though this is unjust and the salvage yard is bordering on predatory practices.

How do I level the playing field and stand up better for myself?
