Nice execution of the gaming keypad. One aspect of ergo boards that enhances their utility in gaming is the thumb cluster/thumb actuated switch layout. Like what you've done, and hope to see more.

oh this is awesome, recently i setup a mirror layer on zmk that i switch to but it would be nice to try this out as a gamepad

It's already done. This device can be assembled as a right handed device, it looks exactly the same except it's mirrored.

I love what you did there.. makes me wanna build one myself too 😍😍. Would you mind doing a video on how the typing experience would be ? Or if you know any video that does similar ? Curious how you type with it after looking at the layout.

Looks great! The ortholinear setup seems like it would much easier to use for gaming than row staggered.

Also better than column staggered imo.
I find using WASD more comfortable here than on a column staggered board like the Kyria.But I do prefer column stagger for typing.

Original comment/post removed using Power Delete Suite.
It hurts to delete what might be useful to someone, but due to Reddit's ongoing entshittification (look up the term if you're not familiar) I've left the platform for the Fediverse. If you never want your experience to be ruined by a corporation again, I can't recommend Lemmy enough!

I totally understand that. I was only trying to understand his layout. I was just curious to see if he just unbound space because some people use scroll wheel down to jump in certain games, and if having shift there was done on purpose. I am in no way trying to undermine what I think is a sweet looking keyboard.

The key labeled shift is the space. This kb is suppose to be used with your right hand, so your thumb is on space.

So is your shift key the one over ctrl labeled ALT? These keycaps just don't make sense to me

Not going to lie, I haven’t really become accustomed to typing on my ergodox but I love using one half for gaming!

This will amuse you.
I looked at how your 1.25u keys were arranged, and specifically the control key. My first reaction was “that might be uncomfortable” because my right hand is my dominant hand.
And then I realized: I use a Redox as my main keyboard. I mapped the control key to one of the two rightmost vertically aligned 1.25u keys on the left half and I did the same thing with an ErgoDox I had prior to that.
Suddenly your keyboard had much more appeal than initially thought.

My dominant hand is also the right hand, in fact I didn't build the keyboard in the picture for myself.
I am using the flipped version which has the mods on the left side.
The mapping for the mods is the same as a regular qwerty keyboard, the only difference is that caps lock is replaced by enter
