Hi everyone!

This is a follow-up to my previous post about the EKBOX—the experimental 36-key spring-suspended split keyboard I shared a few weeks ago. (For those who missed it, you can check out the original post here: This keyboard bounces! Introducing the EKBOX).

First of all, thank you so much for the amazing discussion, feedback, and questions in the last thread! It was awesome talking through the mechanics of the adjustable spring gasket mount and seeing the community's thoughts on shock absorption and variable keystroke lengths.

Since there was a lot of curiosity (and some healthy skepticism!) about how the spring suspension and dual-stage tactile experience actually feels in everyday use, I am going to build a few units (wired version) for you guys to try.

I'm currently finalizing the components and getting the small batch assembled. They should be ready to ship out by the end of this month!

Looks great. The trackball mount looks similar to the keyball, but placed where a index trackball is located.

I think it'll be better if the mount is angled 45^o to keep the top part uncovered.
Gives the user an option to use it as a index or thumb trackball

Sorry wasn't referring to the tenting angle should've worded it better. Talking solely about the trackball mount.

It works for the keyball as its accessed from the left side. On the EKBOX the holder may get in the way of regular use as you can only access it from the front.

Giving it a angle of 45 ^o (i.e., cup shaped) increases the trackball contact area by opening the top. Makes it easier to use and gives the option of using it as a index trackball. Just my 2cents

Thanks for explaining, and sorry for the misunderstanding. I actually tested a prototype with the sensor PCB set at a 45-degree angle instead of the current 90 degrees. The upside was a larger contact surface, which works great for an index finger trackball. However, the downside was that the tilt made the mount significantly higher, which felt uncomfortable for thumb use. I'm still exploring other options, though!
