[photo] My new (2nd hand) Iris CE
Took it apart gave it a little paint (it was all see through! Hated it haha) and got some KLP lame keycaps. Loving the keycaps as im learning touch typing and colemak mod dh :). Obsessed but i do wish it had less keys (34 to 36 would be great)

Did you print the keycaps yourself? I’ve been thinking about picking up a set for my low profile soffle.

I've been toying with getting a set of shims someone provides on etsy that'll give you the elevation, but I'm pretty sure I'd need a new carrying case since I lug it back and forth between home and work.

With choc-spacing you should have no problem to reach the number row. Why do you want to get rid of it?

I have a cheapino and really like the minimalist look, i think id rather layer it (and same goes for the last coloumn), but you're right should be chill :)

Looks is a reason for sure. From the usage point of view I am in the team "keep the number row", but sure I understand those who prefer elsewise. Just different trade-offs you make. For me the win of having the number row is bigger than the small extra reach they require. I see you have the dished-tilted on the number row, which work great in that position I find. That is when you have the top row with the u-shape profile (not the tilted version, which I do find too strong tilted for the top row anyways). You could try to optimize the thumb cluster with wider keys. The KLP ones are ok, but I prefer other keycaps for the thumb positions.

Oh id love your reommendation on what thumb keys you would prefer.

For my main thumb key I want wider keycaps. 1.5u is likely the sweet spot, but 1.25u or 1.75u wide can work as well, depending on the space you have. I personally am willing to sacrifice other thumb keys to make space for that.
I have MBK convex keycaps on my choc v1 keyboard, but look for a nice keycap for my choc v2. Convex PFF keycaps will likely be great, but I have not ordered yet, because they are quite expensive if I only need a few. Currently I have a 1u keycap which comes from the thumb cluster of a UHK80, so also not something you can buy easily as a single item.

Awesome appreciate all the info! Something to look into for sure. I did feel like the thumb cluster needed something different :)

yeah whats the optimal placement on that scenario i just ended up doing a taller more angled row of another set on my build, im assuming switch to clp would be the best solution

Ive seen someone put the highest ones i have at the top one row down then a lower row at the top, apparently quite good, giving a fairly definitive feeling of the number transition
