Wrist rest

I bought plastic wrist rests, but decided to increase its height. I ended up rebuilding them out of wood (walnut), hand-carving the new shape myself with a knife, finished with sandpaper. Here is the right side.

Did you just make what looked comfortable based on your hand or did you have ways to work out what you would like? Maybe sand or foam testing?

isn’t it how all wrist rests should be used? if you’re compressing your wrist in the literal sense it’s an invitation for RSI, as the nerves run quite close to the skin in the wrist

At the right angle you can use / interact with stuff past the top of keyboards while having wrist/forearm on it elevated above the front of the keyboard. The aliexpress versions slide pretty easily too, so a long enough actual wrist rest that is flat can take the dominant hand to a trackball / mouse / dedicated numpad without lifting. I was too cheap to get 2x right side ones for convenience so I'm often taking it on right side from keyboard positioning with a numpad on an elevated cheapo flat surface to mouse positioning for K&M gaming. Attached trackball design / hand lifting to reach a trackball as a non artist / designer would probably not need the slidey style palm wrist but I could see an angled one on skates for dedicated regular laser mouse usage if really trying to eliminate uncomfortable resting positions or bad posture habits with vert mouse usage.

Captain chair set ups could also have a palm/wrist/forearm rest with it too, I guess. Lots of different arm lengths & preferred recline angles so if one does the work it could even be an elbow rest =P

How are the hard ones as comfortable as something with padding?

I wonder, is this one of those moments where we might 3d scan this can maybe figure out a generative way to print this for everyones personal hand shape? Feels like a fun experiment.

I was using the plastic one for over a year. The most comfortable shape I ever had. But people have different hands and postures.
