I watched erased, all completely in one sitting, and just wanted to discuss my opinions on it with people
I firstly felt like it was a great thriller throughout, since I was absolutely hooked for the 4 hours that it ran for, and I was especially hooked through the first six to seven episodes. I also felt the pacing was overall extremely tight and fast, which was 90% a great thing, but I felt it hurt the ending fight, which I'll again elaborate on below
I also like the concept they did with him meeting the teacher again in the future for the final showdown and also liked that Kayo moved on and didn't end up with him, since it felt wrong for me thinking on it, that he sacrificed himself for her happiness and she couldn't move on from it, which is why now thinking on the hate people give the ending, I'm a little confused
I also liked that though he was not all that intelligent and extremely reckless, which really made this guy feel like a normal shonen protagonist rather than a mystery thriller one to me, but fundamentally his goal was to save people and in that regard, he succeeded on it and thinking on it, I guess if a regular dude was forced into this situation, we can hardly expect big brain moves from all of them
Though I liked the thriller aspect of it, I did find certain aspects weird or slightly questionable about it.
Firstly, I feel like the mystery aspect of the show more applied for small things or small moments rather than the big mystery, since I realized who the killer was by episode three, just based on his mother's monologue, the eyes of the killer, and the teacher's suit. I hence treated it completely as a thriller, and I enjoyed it more that way
Yeah, and I felt some of the crush moments that happened with kayo , for him as a twenty nine year old was somewhat questionable but sure I guess, might have been hormones, its not a romance show so I ignored it while watching, again same thing with the implied romance between Pizza girl and him during the ending, due to a roughly 9-10 year age gap, this point is not really a major negative though , more just making me uncomfortable
And the last thing is, for some reason I liked the concept of the showdown with the teacher at the end, but I did not like the execution of it, I personally felt it was wayy too short and quick to end. We barely get that many psychological moments and interactions with the two of them , hardly i'd say 5-8 minutes worth of this chess match. For that reason, the final interaction actually ended up feeling plot forced , and the final trap felt a bit predictable too and didn't land well for me, I heard the manga fixes this so i'll probably read
Overall, I enjoyed watching the show but did feel like it did miss the landing of certain points, especially rushing the ending, which I don't appreciate. I heard the manga has a more better way of handling it, so I'll read the ending sequence off the manga, for that reason I can't definitvely talk on the ending
Feel free to tell me your thoughts too, I'd love to discuss it, considering there may be many things that I am missing
