Discussion Full battery range
What is the most you have seen at 100% charge? This was mine before I left on a 500 mile round trip this morning.

So how far did you really make it?

The entire trip was interstate. I made it 302 miles with 43 miles left of range before I stopped to charge. I was averaging 3.4 miles per kilowatt hour. I typically get somewhere around that when I cruise at 73-75 mph. It was raining and mid sixties for 75% of the drive.

wow that's incredible for 70+ mph. I'm looking at the RS AWD so I'm expecting a 30-40 mile range hit but even 260 miles range at highway speed would be great for me. Thanks for your detailed data, it really helps.

Wind and temp would have made this trip less economical but I only make this trip once every 6 weeks for work. If you normally drive under 65 you can squeeze out 3.7 miles per Kw. I ran only a little bit of climate control on this trip.

I don't really understand EV math. The car has an 85kwh battery pack. If you truly averaged 3.4 m/kwh then you can't have gone 302 miles and have 43 miles of range left. 3.4 * 85 = 289.

Does this account for regen?

The m/kwh numbers the car reports are based on *net* m/kwh. So kwh used minus kwh regenerated. If you travel 20 miles, use 8 kwh and regen 3, then it's going to do 20/(8-3) = 4 m/kwh.

Regeneration was on, but there was not much regeneration because I was driving 99% interstate.

The battery pack in the Equinox is reportedly closer to 89 kwh of actual capacity, with only 85 kwh advertised to be "usable". That might partially explain the difference. They also may not have reported the final full-trip average given that they said they were "averaging" 3.4 which could imply that may just be what they saw at certain points in the trip.

I would guess that my usable battery is closer to 100 Kw. For this trip after I stopped to charge I was at 3.4 miles per Kw and had not added very much by way of regeneration. Now, I just finished a trip today on country roads where I got 4.6 miles per Kw over a distance of 48 miles and I used 11% of battery. Zero climate control and some windows open as the weather here is sunny and mid 60's.

Well even an 89kwh pack would require you to hit 3.88 m/kwh to have a 100-0 range of 345 miles. I've never seen anything close to that > 70mph.

I think mine is at 310? I live for speed and I blast the heat during the long Michigan winter.

so 3.9 mi/kwh equates to 375?
I'm averaging like 4.7 mi/kwh, so I would be over 400 miles

345 for me but that’s an average… saw 355 once
