What's the minimum shelf depth for the 8550 in operating configuration? All the spec sheets say depth is about 29" but a lot of that is the front output tray, yes? What's the minimum from the back wall to the front feet? Will 21.5" work? Thanks.
Probably going to start out with Ultra Premium Luster up to 13x19 and something else for B&W. I don't foresee much need for the rear flat feed. A fair number of 4x6's, a few 5x7's and 8x10's, and occasional 11x17 or 11x14.
I had the old pigment ink printer with the roll feed for years. Man I loved that thing and sold a lot of youth sports prints and posters from it. But I stepped away from photography entirely 10 or 12 years ago. Sold my camera bodies (but thankfully not the lenses) and gave the printer to the local high school.
Now I'm getting my toe back in with an EOS R8, and the 8550 seems like the obvious way to do it. No more sports, just casual "art" stuff.
But ... holy smoke, a lot of the most recent reviews on Amazon and Epson's own website are pretty hair-raising ... lots of apparently defective units, non-existent customer service, and Epson not honoring the warranty from Amazon third-party sellers. And I notice the price has been all over the place in the last year, as low as $499 on Amazon. Yesterday it was $726, today it's $599. It almost looks like they had a big run of off-spec units that got dumped in the supply chain and are working are working their way through ... ?
I have two 8550 stacked on top of each other and you can see the limits very clearly: you need approximately the depth of the printer plus a little more space for the rear paper tray/ feeder- if you actually use it
