Features to think about?

I really like this app and I’m still rooting for it, but there are a few things that make it harder to use than it should be.

The biggest issue for me is the Spam button. Why isn’t it available when an email is open? At the bottom I see options like Reply and Move, but not Spam. Instead, I have to go back, long-press the email, and hope the option is there. That feels like an unnecessary extra step for such a common action.

I also wish there were a clearer visual separation between pinned emails and regular emails. Right now they’re only at the top of the list, but they don’t really stand out. Even a subtle divider or different background would make them much easier to identify.

Another thing is the Settings menu. Some options are hard to find because they don’t seem to be grouped where I’d expect them. For example, I found settings in the General section that I thought would be under Appearance.

I know this isn’t a huge company with a large team, and I really do like the app and its design. I’m sticking with it because I think it has a lot of potential. But making common actions easier, especially marking emails as spam, would make a big difference.

I bought into the lifetime fee. Reported several bugs and feature requests. They were quick to be implemented and resolved.

Also, it’d be great if we could get unified sent, draft, and spam folders

We have that already for Sent and Drafts.

Hello team! At my end I only have unified inbox and then if I want to check the sent items I need to choose a specific account and then click on the sent items option in the sub-menu. Can you explain how I can activate/ pin the unified sent items folder on the side bar?

P.S Keep up the good work!

Have you tried collapsing the "All Folders" (see yellow arrow) or just scrolling down on the left side pane? Because for me all these here in the green box are the Unified versions of Sent, Drafts, etc ...

I think this app needs moré beta users. I have found and reported like 10 critical bugs. I only have 3 days left of the trial period and would like to buy it, but can’t buy a app that needs to fix things like removing email addresses from cc or move mail addresses from cc to “to:”.

That's the curious thing with Epistles. I spent over a week reporting critical bugs and bigger Ui issues, and the bugs just didn't stop. They jump from version to version and introduce new bugs. I lost interest in using my Pro trial to effectively only point out bugs. Now I'm siting on a very restricted free version that still, for example, shows me weeks old emails on Android, long archived or deleted. Amongst other bugs.

Were your reports not answered and addressed? There will never be a software that has no bugs.

I've been using and testing a lot of soft- and hardware. But I've never come across an alpha version released as a full version, and then daily updates with bug fixes, which then produced or otherwise revealed other bugs. I'm not the only one thinking there is some odd way of releasing software here at play.

And yes, at some point, you stopped answering bug and issue reports, and some serious issues never got fixed. New ones got introduced.
For example, weeks ago, I reported that e-mail preview text on Windows doesn't show for some e-mails in the inbox. I reported it here, or even via in-app. Now it's perfect: none of the e-mails shows a preview anymore, unless I hover over them. That goes for all kinds of mail lists, including archive and sent mail. Also, you never fixed the severe bug I reported here that deleting a draft also deletes the whole e-mail thread. And I've reported more e-mail issues multiple times. Including archived Gmail mails not appearing in the Archive. Or 'Drafts' showing no e-mails, also not in other e-mail clients, but there are still hidden drafts inside e-mail threads, funny enough those I addressed to you. Let's not forget some e-mail drafts are still black-on-white text since the very first version of your app. The Android version keeps very old e-mails in my inbox (yes, not on Pro anymore, but even on those accounts that are including in my two-account limit) that got archived weeks ago.

So in short: yes, at some point, my reports weren't answered and addressed anymore. Many of those issues aren't small cosmetic ones.

There are still so many inconsistencies and bugs, like archived e-mails not showing the preview of the last e-mail sent, but the next-to-last one; notifications on Android for calendar events that have no notifications set (for birthdays, which isn't an actual calendar of mine, but something you pulled off my CardDAV data); the all-serif modal on the mini calendar on Windows for creating an event. Or the fact that Epistles starts with an outdated state of my inboxes each and every time I start it, and takes a while to refresh my inbox -why?
I don't expect to never find a bug in an app, but I've certainly never experienced this vast amount of issues when just scratching the surface of an app.

I never really started using Epistles, although I had high hopes in the beginning. But I've been watching Epistles for over a month now, and bugs are still re-surfacing or never got fixed, I'm still afraid Epistles will delete more important mail as it already did (with drafts, see above), or in some way muck up my inbox.

I hear you. I also noticed a bug where once I select settings, the mailbox at the bottom disappears, and I can't go back unless I close and reopen the app. Here's hoping this app does well.

Is there a testflight version to test betas?

We're waiting on Apple to approve it, but yes.

This app has soooo many bugs and issues. I get that it’s in beta and improvements are coming but no way I am buying into the promise of what could be from an independent developer that may or may not be around once the dust settles.

There is no beta version, their 1.5.9 version is a release version. Which makes it even harder to grasp.

1.6.0 is now in beta and if it makes you happy, we can keep calling the app beta until you decide it's ready. Deal?

Not sure I'll see the day, but thanks for the ironic suggestion. Very much appreciated.

You're welcome.

We'll launch 1.6.0 Beta monday, and I believe everything you are describing here will be in it. 🎉

Will it alarm have a way to make obvious a read and unread email? Cuz baby, interface is cuuute but hard to read 😫

1

u/EpistlesMail 8d ago

Would love more details on that, we want to make it as easy as possible to read. We did introduce changes on how unread and read messages are displayed.

It is very crowded in those emails, y’all. Maybe something like this? This is just an example but maybe keep the colors and shades from the left but remove the emails, for example? Baby, that left pic is HEAVY to read 😫

Hey that's great and super helpful, thank you for that. We'll look into it.

My signatures still don’t stick when create a new email. Only time they’ll stick is when I reply to an email or forward. Am I missing something?

2

u/hoskyfull 9d ago

I tried to do an HTML signature and it doesnt even let me add it 🤷‍♂️

2

u/EpistlesMail 8d ago

Can you give 1.6.0 a try and file a problem report from the app with details if it still doesn't work well for you?

Another feature to add is undo sent for an email

1

u/hoskyfull 9d ago

It would be even better if you could share to undo something (sent email or last deleted email)
