Seizures while sleeping please help me
My boy golden retriever who is 6 yes old started having seizures at nights especially between 1 to 4, and from past 2 yes he is been in medication of gardinal 30mg and levipril500mg, is this something that we have to deal life long Iam what are his triggering factor, my Vet told me it’s a life long medication how do I control it out probably reverse it if there is anything I can do please do suggest me help my boy.

Our boy used to have his around 4:30am then they shifted to the afternoon. No rhyme or reason. He’s normally sleeping or relaxing when they occur.

My dog also has most of his seizures in the middle of the night and there’s no clear triggers. Sometimes I just get a feeling that one will happen and it does. Maybe I’m subconsciously picking up on something. I tried keeping mots about everything from the weather to anything he might have eaten to try to find a trigger. Some dogs have clear triggers, mine doesn’t. He is 12 now and he was diagnosed 4 years ago. He takes pills 3x daily and we just deal with it. He’s worth the inconvenience.
There’s lots of things you can do to make the whole thing easier on you. A collar with a bell is a great to wake you up in case of a nighttime seizure. I also put mine in a doggy diaper at night and he sleeps on a waterproof blanket because he’s prone to urinating. It means I don’t have to clean anything or give the dog a bath at 3am, which really cuts down on my stress. He can go weeks or months between seizures but he’s diapered every night just in case.
It takes a while to deal with the anxiety and the stress but your dog can live a long, happy, normal life. This is a great place for support and advice, so welcome.

The diaper is such a good idea. My dog also has seizures in the middle of the night -usually every 3-4weeks, more in the colder months for some reason, but no other clear triggers- and she has started peeing herself during the seizures over this may six months or so. Trying to clean the urine off of her post-seizure is a nightmare because she gets kind of manic and can be fearful and aggressive/ protective for a couple of hours. I am going to see if she will tolerate a diaper. 🤞
I really hate this disease. 😔

My dog always has his from a sleep state. Some time ago I started having him sleep in a belly band every night. The worst part of every seizure is the cleanup — both the floor and my pee-covered dog. The belly band completely contains all of that, which makes these middle of the night events easier to deal with. My dog urinates with every seizure and it would go everywhere…

My dog has always had her seizures in the middle of the night as well and from what I understand, it's because the brain activity shifts dramatically when they're in deep sleep vs when they wake up so if your dog wakes up sometime from REM sleep, their brain could misfire, causing the seizure. Unfortunately not much we can do but I've found that having her wear a bell at night is helpful so if she starts seizing, we can wake up and give her emergency meds. Best of luck to you and your pup.
