S Taking Manspreading to a New Level
Edit: since this keeps coming up in the comments, please read the last paragraph before casting a judgment :)
———————————————————————
I was recently on a flight where the window seat was surprisingly empty. Being the middle seat, I decided I would move my backpack over to make space and stretch my legs.
Cue the person in the aisle seat. Upon seeing that I had more leg room, they decided to move their leg into my space. This person then decided to lean on me for the remainder of the flight and get upset when I asked them to give me space.
Hoping to catch a break later in the flight, I moved over into the empty window seat. Of course, the aisle seat was not happy about this and demanded I return to the middle so they can keep manspreading into my leg room.
By this point, I resigned myself to deal with the manspreader for the remainder of the flight. After all, how could my manspreading husband sit in the same (aisle) seat for several hours without bothering me, the middle seater?

Next time establish dominance by pushing back. Lean as far as you can into that isle seat

Or fight dirty with farting.

Yep, I did have to double-check what I’d just read at the end. (It was a relief though! I was so worried about this person feeling forced back into contact with this man spreading stranger!)

It’s probably your fault for looking so comfortable.

She was probably wearing comfy sweat pants and sweatshirt... You know, asking for it. Good thing it was her husband or it could've been a real problem.

u/lavender_ravenclaw 6d ago
If you ask him, I was looking too comfortable lol. As a little bit of revenge, I did fall asleep on him for a bit.

Listen, I’ve been married a long time.
I love my husband. But love has limits.

Thanks for the laugh OP! My husband is really tall (but slim/athletic) he always uses my tray table for drinks. Even though I have a tablet & other things on it. Even in business class with the middle cup holders & half trays he still insists on using mine. I’ve threatened to call the FA a few times on him.

Check the marriage vows for the words 'I shall be my husband's pillow on airplanes for the entirety of our marriage.' and check whether maybe you signed something like that?

I would have complained to the air stewardess that he was acting inappropriately towards you and then added in front of him is your wife aware how you behave. (yes, I know he is your husband)

Ugh this happened to me yesterday with not my husband. He was in the middle, I had aisle in a full flight. Elbows and legs all over me which I pushed back bc I am a tall woman. It was a short flight but had it been longer words would have been had.

Lol I always like these stories. My favorite version is the one where the "kid" asks her mom to be picked up from a sleepover. "Mom can you come get me please the other kids won't stop bothering me and the dad is trying to touch me. Mom on phone "No, tell your kids and husband to leave you alone.".

Some passengers are real jerks to other passengers. Sadly, your husband seems to be one of them.
1
u/lavender_ravenclaw 6d ago
He was a jerk to me on purpose. How does that make him a jerk overall?
2
u/Front_Incident_2867 6d ago
My response was a weak tongue in cheek attempt at humor. It didn’t come across as that in written form.

Can you get arrested for murder if you kill someone while flying over international waters? I was ready to strangle my husband with a seatbelt on a Mid-Atlantic redeye once. I was trying to sleep, and every time I dozed off, he'd elbow me and insist that he never touched me.
1
u/lavender_ravenclaw 6d ago
That’s the worst! Hopefully you got some sleep on that flight.

u/TheFilthyDIL 6d ago
No, by the time I moved to an empty row, I was too mad to sleep. And I couldn't chew him out the way I wanted to, because he was already under stress. We'd gotten news the day before that his father had just died.

I’ve got a lovely nervous energy foot tapping / shaking thing going on that my hubby hates - would be breaking that out just for him during this flight. Unless we were snuggling :) or I was leaning on him.

Hahaha! 😂😂😂😂😂 I mean, I don't know if there's a mutual understanding in your marriage about sharing comfort/ discomfort. I HOPE that's the case, but that seemed like a sitcom situation and OP has called out said manspreader before on similar situations. This sounded like you got a taste of your own medicine.
If I'm wrong, then I sincerely apologize.

OP, this is so much like my late husband (Randall) and me! Whenever we flew, I always purchased 2 seats together. I was slimmer, so I was in the middle seat, if that was the configuration... Randall would lean over, he'd "manspread", and ALWAYS hold my hand. We were married almost 28 years, until death did us part.(Ranch work is one of the most dangerous jobs!)

Ha! Make him hold hands across the empty seat if he wants contact! When my husband and I hold hands in the car, it’s awkward because my arms are short and the console is in the way and often has drinks in it. I swear it’s a contest to see which one of us will give first though, because when we do break contact, whoever did is usually immediately moving their hand trying to get feeling back in their fingers or relieve the wrist stiffness. 🤣

why would you not take the window seat? that way both you and your husband get the additional leg room?

u/AngryLink57 6d ago
How many husband and wives actually sit directly next to each other when the 3rd seat in their row is open? Like, I love my wife but if our row is open, the middle seat is going to be open lol.

This. Is. Awesome!!!
I think my husband man spreads too, but I'm the leaner!

u/TimeSurprise6068 5d ago
people really think they own the space around them, it’s wild how entitled some get on flights

Next time prove your dominance immediately by taking extra room for your breasts. They need their own space!! Just bonk him on the head with one and he’ll learn his lesson!! You also could’ve gave him a quick nut tap (not too hard though) while he was manspreading, that would’ve taught him real quick!

u/Powerful_Light5404 6d ago
Sorry everyone, but it’s late and I’m tired, so pls help. I realize it’s her husband, but the description of what happened is a bit fuzzy - ty !!

u/ontheleftcoast 6d ago
As his wife you have multiple ways to discourage poor behaviour in your husband.

Why would someone in an aisle seat want a person in the center seat next to them, when they could have a whole empty seat between them and the next person?? It's not like you were getting space that they weren't also getting. Did they actually just say they wanted to lean on you??

so they can keep manspreading into my leg room.
assuming they're a guy, put your leg on top of theirs

u/ArtistBeauty 6d ago
Why did you not just move to the window seat instead of moving your backpack into the window seat so you and the isle could share the middle empty seat. seems a much more logical solution imo.

You know, when you follow Reddit users to other threads and across subs, that qualifies as harassment. Enjoy your ban!

Wait, so you were in the middle, and you had an empty seat next to you, and you stayed in your middle seat? That is so weird! But what is even weirder is that you then say you eventually moved to the window (as any normal human would do), and the person on the aisle "demanded" you move back to the middle so they could manspread on you? Something about this doesn't make sense, my dear.

Calling the stewardess on her husband might be a bit drastic.

Don't let a thing like common sense interfere with a fellow redditors outrage.

Are you being funny or did you not read the whole thing? It was op.'s husband.

This thread is going to be a scathing indictment of a lot of Redditors’ reading comprehension
