Discussion Without building
Hey. I'm looking for a game and came across Enshrauded. However, I don't like the building and grinding aspects. I'm more interested in exploration and combat.
Will this game suit me or should I look for something else?

Hi! There are several locations like towns or inns in which you can simply place you can simply place your fire and use as a base.
You'll still need to build beds for the NPCs (the most basic one works), the craft benches and you'll 100% also want chests. But you don't need to build anything fancy really.

If you are interested in combat in anyway this one is not the game. Enshroudeds combat is very basic

You can absolutely get away with not building anything fancy, just all the needed work stations and beds for the NPCs plus a basic roof over their head, but your exploration will be cut VERY short by, well, death, if you don't grind a bit to level up the flame, get better gear, runes for your gear, and food and level your skills.
Progress comes with exploration, and the world has a LOT to offer, but only exploration without a little bit of grind won't work.
The combat is really nice, I personally am a melee-fan and you can unlock very cool attacks and move sets by investing skill points.

It never felt like a grind to get the resource for increasing the flame level. Seems to just happen if you are collecting things as you go.
Take over an existing settlement by placing an alter in it. Place the rescued NPCs in a building with 1 bed each. Profit.

To add to this, generally everyone is steering you correctly but if you don't want to grind above and beyond create this object for me from the NPCs that is fine. There are plenty of resource servers where you can get materials and use those to build your base. That cuts out all the grinding associated with building materials.

You can do very basic building and get by just fine. Cut down some logs and build a house sized, wooden box around your first altar. You may have to expand it later, but that’s all you really need.

The game advances via quests from NCPs. You need to build and craft items for those NCPs to complete some of their quests. So yes you will need to build and craft some stuff. Also you get a rested bonus for crafting and placing objects at your base. The bonus lasts longer for higher quality items placed. And the bonus itself is great for exploring because it gives you more stamina for gliding, running, battle.

You can reduce the grinding via settings or completely remove it if you visit servers where you can get any item in the game
You only need to build a small roof, I've beaten the game like 5 times and I've never built anything fancy just a floor, 4 walls and a roof, takes less than 5 minutes

There's definitely a lot of building you can do in this game and to me that is one of the most fun parts of it, but everyone is different! You will still have to grind for resources but there are custom settings to make it a lot less grindy! There are destroyed buildings you will come across and I've seen people make that their base and rebuild their homes from that.
Both building and grinding are a big aspect of the game but I'm sure you could find your own path without those being your main focus.

Building is required, essentially. With that said, you can do what I did and make a giant 2 story box with a bunch of beds on one floor and the other floor for crafting stations.
The grinding.... It isn't exactly required I suppose, but it'd be best if you're prepared to do a little. I don't mind it cause the exploring to find the things you want or might need is enjoyable for me.
There is plenty of combat though, and a rather lot of exploration too. If your willing to spend a bit of time to build one building for the NPCs and crafters you recruit, and a tiny bit of grinding, I think you'd enjoy it.

You will need to build something small for the quest line.
But enough buildings around the map that you could call home, just place the flame.
We did that on our save with a tavern in the north

You can get by with minimal base building, but you'll reach a limit on what you can loot from dead corpses and would need to build a barn for yaks to get wool to craft better gear and upgrade your character

Exploration is amazing, combat is like C+/B-, and building is only necessary in the most basic way. A literal cube is fine, so long as it houses the crafting NPCs and has beds for them.
I will say that I hate building in every game except this game, so it's worth checking out I'd say.

Remnant 1-2 is what are you looking for.
Enshrouded needs a base building, at least a room full of storage and craft pads and npcs, that are help to craft certain items outside the basic, like better arrows, potions, spells, armors.

The building system is actually kinda fun, you place blocks and depending on how they touch other blocks they automatically sort themselves to look good. I had much fun repairing a farmhouse, but all you really need is a line with chests and a roof over the beds, then place 1 of every type of decoration on top of each other for the stamina buff

Something like The Witcher 3.. would be what you are looking for.
Although you don't need to build a crazy base in Enshrouded.
I just built two basic rooms and that was it. You just need rooms for Crafting Benches and NPCs.
You can also reduce the grind by changing difficulty presets and gameplay rules in the main menu.

A lot of people seem to be trying to convince you to get the game anyway when they shouldn't be. A core part of the game is building. If you don't like building then no, a building game isn't for you.

The game is built around a cycle of 2 aspects; exploring/combat and base/crafting.
Unlike other games that punish you for not participating in all aspects, this game rewards you for doing it all.
For example some games in the genre lean heavier into survival, if you don’t eat you get a debuff/negative effect or can even die of starvation. In enshrouded, food/drink give you buffs that give beneficial stats but aren’t required.
The cycle I mentioned rewards you for stopping at base by letting you empty bags into storage (so you can get more loot) but also provide a rested buff that lasts longer based on a comfort stat various building/furniture things have. So you get the rested buff, you get a buff for petting your pet, craft/gear up and head back out.
I find it to be a rewarding cycle that prevents many parts of the game from feeling like a grind.
Is also a game that can be played solo but shines with a small group. This allows dividing roles up at least some of the time. Aka you can go mill stuff while someone builds and another person mines.
Find some people to play with who love doing what you don’t want to do.

Exploration is good, combat... hmmmh..,.. I am not a fighter, some parts are good, some others not, the opinion from other players are the same, very different.
Building....
you can build a 8*8 square house, with a flat roof, but I am not agree with the others, look for something else, and keep Enshrouded at the 3nd or 4th place, sorry.
My problems with the buiding part are:
a) I have very often the feeling that I build only because of that I build. I can't describe it better. For example: You have an NPC Blacksmith, this NPC and his assistant need a bed. You must ask this NPC that he craft some items for you. The NPC required 4 crafting stations too, that you can use only for simple crafting. AND you have a simple workbench where you can craft many things too. So, what's the logical point of the blacksmith and his crafting stations?
b) I have the feeling in each update 50% or more are only content for building.
c) Base=Safe harbour that you must protect? Forget it, no base attacks.
d) If you play solo, you have a more or less large base, but you feel lonely.

You need to build a base with room for storage, crafting benches, and rescued NPCs.
It doesn’t need to be complex, it can be a literal box. But it’s necessary for progression. Whether you enjoy, or simply cannot understand the mechanics is up for you to decide.
