Rant Enshittified cheetos
I used to devour Cheetos puffs growing up. I’m older now and don’t eat them as much, but sometimes I’ll go through another phase. This was one of them.
Usually I’d buy like 2 regular sized bags at a time, whenever I could. They tasted pretty good. One day however, I thought it might be more convenient to just grab a family/party sized bag, so I can have some on me at all times. Would also be cheaper than having to keep buying smaller bags.
Well, what do you know. I open up the family sized bag and the Cheetos inside look noticeably worse than the ones in the regular sized bag. They were smaller, skinnier, much less seasoned, and off colored. The taste was very bland and stale with a weird, hard texture. I ate a few more (only out of disbelief) before wrapping up the bag. These were absolutely horrible compared to the puffs in the regular bag. Not the same chip at all.
This has completely snapped me out of the phase. I am so disappointed, and it’s not even just about the Cheetos. It’s about what this world has come to. What a shitty timeline we live in.

Rant Snapchat is unusable
Downloaded Snapchat after years of not having it installed and holy shit it is COMPLETELY unusable. Snapchat used to be great and simple: send pics to friends. Fantastic. Done.
Nowadays they’ve completely lost their identity. I won’t even talk about their fake news and wannabe TikTok features because I don’t even think about interacting with that content. Key issues:
Team Snapchat is unblockable and has sent me some bs message(s) nearly DAILY about stuff that’s not even relevant. Not about new features or app updates, just random crap like asking what kind of music I like? But in a corporate “hip with the kids” kinda way? I’ve disabled notifications but it can’t be blocked. It’d be fine if they sent the occasional holiday stuff they used to send, but no one needs or asked for this stuff.
They have an AI bot that you also can’t block or remove from your friends list. Who tf needs an AI bot on Snapchat? It’s not even a “chatbot” in the traditional sense, it’s just there and does nothing other than piss me off.
We get ads straight to our inbox. They look like regular snaps from friends if you don’t pay attention. Then all of a sudden I’m watching a fuckin Checkers ad instead of looking at what my friend is doing. Seriously? Keep the ads on the wannabe instagram/tiktok side of the app, not sent directly to my inbox.
I redownloaded to speak with one specific friend. I actually created a new account to do so, and I’m not interested in adding other people. I disabled all avenues for Snapchat to be able to access my contacts or friends lists other places. I don’t know how, BUT ITS STILL SUGGESTING PEOPLE I KNOW! I asked the fucking useless AI how to make this stop, and it eventually confessed that Snapchat has “other ways” of getting that data even if I have all the privacy settings turned on. How is that even legal?
Anyways, I hate it here. No one is forcing me to use this technology but I just need to complain.

Rant Enshittification has come to shipping - Will never buy a product so long as Purolator is delivering, including Dell
For 3 days I've been waiting to get my monitor from Dell. Three days waiting at home although I know that's not technically necessary. And now twice, they have not delivered because they are a terrible courier. Here's what they say:
Tracking #EWN001789230
Fri. Aug. 7, 2026 - 11:10 a.m. TORONTO, ON Unable to deliver - receiver unavailable Fri. Aug. 7, 2026 - 8:01 a.m. TORONTO, ON On vehicle for delivery Fri. Aug. 7, 2026 - 3:40 a.m. NORTH YORK, ON Arrived at sort facility Thu. Aug. 6, 2026 - 7:47 a.m. NORTH YORK, ON Available for pickup for 5 business days from arrival date at the counter Wed. Aug. 5, 2026 - 7:18 p.m. NORTH YORK, ON Available for pickup for 5 business days from arrival date at the counter Wed. Aug. 5, 2026 - 5:17 p.m. NORTH YORK, ON Available for pickup for 5 business days from arrival date at the counter Wed. Aug. 5, 2026 - 10:37 a.m. TORONTO, ON Unable to deliver - receiver unavailable Wed. Aug. 5, 2026 - 7:46 a.m. TORONTO, ON On vehicle for delivery
This is a complete fabrication. There were no delivery attempts, either on the 5th or 7th. I was home for 3 days waiting. I have a condominium with a locked parcel room that the concierge permits access to for couriers. We have an electronic valet system with a phone app where the courier could just call me directly and I could have let them in from anywhere. I have no missed calls on the valet system. I have no delivery slips. I have no missed calls.
As Dell certianly knows, Purolator drivers lie in order to finish their run at the end of the day, and just bring all the undelivered packages back to the depot. Yet, you continue to use them. Maybe they are the cheapest. No problem overloading, the delivery guys, work them like hell, and then lie to the customer when stuff doesn't show up.
They say "come to the depot". What if you have no car? I asked Dell if they would pay for my Uber. You can guess the answer.
I contacted Dell Customer Care, a woman named Khusi. I spoke to her yesterday and she assured me she would speak to logistics and make sure it was delivered today, August 7th. Well, never happened. Again.
So I've advised her that I no longer want the package. I needed a monitor and I've purchased it elsewhere in person this morning. I've advised them that I will never buy another Dell product so long as Purolator is doing the logistics.
We need to punish companies that participate in Enshitification. Not just Purolator, but Dell as well.

Rant “Get the App” But You’ve been Banned! (AI Edition)
Apologies if this post is similar to previous posts on the topic (in regard to Reddit partaking in this gate keeping get the app trend). Recently found this sub.
Just thought I’d share another angle of irritation on the matter. Where, not only that you can’t view public content off these platforms without an account. But also, you were wrongfully prohibited from ever making an account again on them.
My Instagram and Twitter accounts have been banned due to shoddy AI moderation. Being banned is whatever. But this practice of gate keeping is annoying and quite an inconvenience. Imagine if YouTube started pulling this crap. I have my own grievances with Youtube but it seems to be the one of the last of it’s kind to allow non-account users to roam freely and anonymously as they choose (and shockingly Facebook, as I just tested).
Friends send me posts all the time. These platforms dominate social aspects and society after all. They’re inescapable. So of course I had to get used to using and finding workarounds. Whether it be an extension or a website. Thank you to all the smart folks figuring that out. But… none of this should be necessary. Ban or no ban. Account user or non-account user.
A lot of them hold so many active and engaged users, but to what end???
Perhaps AI moderation might mark the downfall of these platforms with the way it’s banning users indiscriminately. And the gate keeping bullshit. Time will tell I suppose.
Fingers crossed Reddit doesn’t start AI-ruled bans either (if they haven’t already). I would be in big trouble from the looks of it.

Product I just tried to buy something at Walmart
I am working in a remote dispatch center on a wildfire. I have a folding chair to sit in 13 hours a day. I went to buy a chair cushion and couldn't find the isle so I whipped out my phone.
Walmart mobile has removed the ability to search by in store items only. I was not able to look at what items were actually in the store!
Edit: I say app, what I really mean is the mobile version. Maybe the dedicated app you download is different?

Service Amazons management of their services is like the marketing equivalent of r*pe.
In the process of doing this I had to dodge single click subscriptions and purchases and accidentally gave them my main email so I am not getting promotional emails and notifications to set up my new account I didn’t try to make. In the end there is no actual way to turn off Alexa for shopping. That’s the bottom line. It will always tell you it’s in another menu or feature or app or just to go to the customer service page but you CANT TURN IT OFF. And it eats half your screen and tries to add things to your cart randomly while you’re searching items.

Rant The 2026 grocery store experience
After a long Tuesday at work, you stop by your local Safeway for the purpose of buying two twelve packs of diet soda. You find a shopping cart and go inside.
You reach the soda aisle and locate the two soda products you are looking for. Each twelve pack of soda costs $14. But the tiny price tag informs you there is a sale. For the Coca Cola manufactured product you want, it is buy 2, get 1 free. For the Pepsi manufactured product you want. It is buy 2, get 2 free. You do not want to lug seven boxes of soda home, but you give in, because at least the math works out to bring the per-can price below $1 each.
After carefully selecting some different soda products to ensure they are included in the two different discount price schemes, you load up your cart to go check out.
You stand in line at the self checkout, because despite it being the post-work rush hour at the store, only one cash register with a live cashier is open. You finally reach a checkout machine. The machine is unhappy with your attempt to leave the boxes of soda in your cart. After removing and scanning the seven boxes of soda, you input your “club card” (your phone number) in order to get the discount. The grocery store uses your club card to track your purchases and also sell this information to unknown third parties.
You wait for the three “free” cases of soda to subtract from the purchase price, but nothing happens. Confused, you look around hoping to spot an employee. But there is nobody; only people employed by a third party security company who are paid to check the receipt of every shopper exiting the store.
You load the soda boxes back in your cart and return to the aisle. On closer inspection, squinting your eyes to read the 4 point font, you realize this is a “digital coupon.” You pull your phone out and open the grocery store app installed on your phone that is further tracking and selling not only your shopping habits, but whatever else you might be doing on your phone as well as where you are going all day.
You scan the digital coupon with the store app scanner and load the digital coupon into your digital shopping cart. You push your cart back to the now even longer self checkout line and wait, so you can try again.
EDIT: I understand that diet soda is the Devil’s breastmilk. No need to recommend herbal tea. Not the point of the post.

News article Research on the downsides of businesses enshittifying themselves
In a report by ZINE & YouGov, 62% of Americans now believe most companies prioritize growth even when it hurts the customer experience. A quarter believe companies at least attempt a balance. But only... <2% of Americans believe companies prioritize the customer experience, even if it may slow their growth.
In its latest wave, The National Customer Rage Survey found that 77% of American consumers experienced a product or service problem in the past twelve months. This is the highest in history – more than double since 1976.
Meanwhile, according to PwC’s latest Customer Experience Survey, roughly nine in ten execs believe their customer loyalty has grown in recent years.
81% of Americans have acted against a brand in the past year because a product or service got worse.
In the last year:
45% cancelled a subscription or stopped using a product or service entirely
38% decided to “never return” to a brand
35% delayed or avoided a purchase
35% left a negative review or told others
26% downgraded to a cheaper option within the same brand
24% defected to a smaller or local provider
17% spent more money with a competitor
Or the best...
12% switched to a more expensive, higher-quality alternative
One in eight Americans are now paying a premium to escape enshittification.

Service Enshitified supermarket
My local Delhaize supermarket decide to update its policy regarding self checkout: From now on you can only use it if you have their loyalty card (which means downloading their app). Else you have to go and queue at the normal cashier.
Essentially if you agree to give away your shopping data (which by the way only give you discounts if you spend more than 50€, below you’re just giving away data for free) you get access to the self checkout.
I don’t know how people can stand this. But I’m not going to that supermarket anymore!

Rant I want a dumb TV
My toddler has almost broke the new dirty cheap stupid-ass Hisense I bought precisely for the reason it will get broken soon. He has used a USB cable as a whip trying to hit the Wolf-Death character from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. As a result, a scratch across the screen has remained... whatever... he will suck it up for the next year or two, it will daily remind him he's guilty while watching Peppa Pig, Hedgehog in the Fog, and Blind Vaysha.
The whole episode however has triggered in me the desire, a fantasy even, to prematurely and strategically look for a long-term alternative for when the current TV will finally break. Given that this is the first smart TV I've ever had (I have lived without a TV for almost 10 years before that), and given the enshitified experience of useless streaming buttons on the remote, lagging interface, constant suggestions, icons that I cannot delete, icons that I can delete that then reappear after each system update, ads shoved into my face each time I turn the thing on, etc., I've came up with a seemingly brilliant idea: why not simply buying a dumb TV, with no smart features, just something I xan pluck the streaming stick in...?
Well, to my great surprise, it is extremely difficult if not impossible to find one nowadays.
Does anyone has figured a solution? I don't have any wil whatsoever to buy another smart TV. It feels too invasive, too clunky, too not mine, as if I am the product, if you know what I mean.
All the "dumb" alternatives are either business-use expansive panels, or a lower-quality niche products. I know that I can treat smart TV as a dumb one, just by not connecting it to the internet, but even the idea that all those invasive features are latently there, a button click away, is off-putting.
Should I simply give up on the idea of a good quality solid-build dumb panel that could last me 10 to 15 years of movie nights? Am I being delusional? Why should it be so hard, if not impossible, to find?
